The wired either freedom or cruiser is still the best electric bike IMO. FYI around 45mph is the fastest hub motors can spin. I've gotten my 45 volt 1000 wat ebike up to 48MPH going on a long downhill and that's the fastest the motor would go. So rely with these e bikes the big difference is torque and acceleration, they all have pretty much the same top speed if you're going downhill. Also with more power comes less battery life and the two battery setup on all wired e-bikes is the best bang for your buck setup you're gonna find anywhere. Another thing to consider is torque, more torque equals less strain on the battery going uphill and that also equates to longer battery life.
@justinw1765Ай бұрын
I'm pretty sure that there are hub motors that can spin much, much faster than 45mph. Originally the Aptera electric solar car was supposed to have specially made Elaphe hub motors, and its top speed with same was supposed to be over a hundred.

I considered the Billy Goat, but decided to go with the Wired Freedom based on both cost and the adjustable seat height. I actually want to be able to pedal well and comfortably, and while I'm a bit shorter than average, I have an unusual torso to leg length ratio-with a very short torso and long legs for my height (my inseam is 31.5" and that's at 5' 6.5" height. My legs are as long as some guys who are 5'10.5" to 6'1" with longer torsos/shorter leg ratios), To make the seat on the Freedom more comfortable, I plan to get some 1" latex foam bed topper and add that on there since I can sew etc (it will connect via a wide amount of velcro/hook and loop) Latex foam is quite nice stuff. Very durable and will pretty much outlast every other foam available to regular consumers. (The encasing material will be a light colored silpoly, to which I will add extra silicone for better grip and UV protection. I hate getting on black colored, hot seats in the summer. In the winter I will take off this seat topper and wear padded pants). (On a side note, I plan on making a "heat pipe" type thermal exchanger to go on the motor controller to better dissipate heat, and will spray paint it white. I'll probably paint the motor and batteries white as well to keep them a bit cooler in the summer. I'm also going to make a truly ultra light trailer to put solar panels on it).

The Motor Goat v3 from the same company has even more potential. Also on the horizon, Assault Dynamics is ranking up their Indiegogo campaign where you can get their bikes for just $3000. You can order directly from them right now, but if they can get their igg campaign to 200 bikes they can get the ridiculous cost of $3k for 72v, 40?ah battery, full moto brakes etc. Craaaazy price. If i hadn't ordered an MX5, i would probably jump on the Assault Dynamics train. But i wanted bakery in my ebike steed. If you have very large and/or thick hands, it may be unduly challenging without deflating the back tire). It comes with a allen wrench, socket wrench, regular wrench + screwdrivers combo tool (actually kind of a neat combo tool set). While most people don't have problems, it's something to consider. Steven at Wired is a really cool guy so if you give him a call before you make the purchase he can tell you if they'll cover the bike or not. In terms of range, I can almost reach 100 miles on a single charge by using both batteries and riding in PAS 1 or 2. I've customized my PAS levels to use 10% power for PAS 1 and 23% for PAS 2, which gives me plenty of assistance while conserving battery. This setup allows me to reach 24 mph on flat ground with occasional hills, and I rarely exceed 30 mph since I prioritize torque over top speed. You mentioned wanting a range of 80 miles, which I think is definitely achievable. Riding in a flat area and avoiding prolonged high speeds will maximize your range. For the freedom bike, does it have a removable battery? What's the top speed? What's the battery life like? Can it go over 25 miles and still have battery?
@justinw1765Ай бұрын
The updated version now has 2 batteries that are removable and yes in most conditions can easily get you 25 miles with some battery left over. The exception would be if you were going mostly up hill, going at full throttle the entire time with no to very little pedaling, you weigh a considerable amount over the average (like pushing near 300lbs), your tires don't have enough air in them, and/or you're riding on the beach. All of these will, especially in any combo, severely decrease your mileage capacity. But if your route is fairly/relatively flat, you're at least lightly peddling most of the time, your speed is averaging around 25 to 30 (i.e. sometimes going mostly around 20 but also occasionally going 40/45), and you weigh 250 and less, you can easily get around 50 to 75 miles at full charge (some people sometimes get near 100). Top speed will depend on a combo of your weight, your torso length (longer torsos create more air drag/resistance), the road conditions, the tire pressure, and/or your riding position. But speaking in averages/trends, it will typically range from around 39 to 45mph.

@justinw1765Ай бұрын
@@philsoro491 You're welcome. One thing I forgot to mention as a factor for both range and top speed is wind. If the wind is blowing directly towards you, it will decrease speed and range, but if it is behind you it will increase these slightly. An interesting fact somewhat related to the above is that when you get up to 25 mph and faster, much of the energy it takes to move the bike becomes less about rolling resistance and weight, and more about air drag/friction. The faster you go, the more that is true. Some bicycle racers during races, will lay flat on their bikes going downhill. You'll see them pass the people sitting upright. All about aerodynamics. I'm thinking about making and putting a windshield on my Freedom bike to help increase range and top speed a bit. Also nicer in colder weather (though conversely, not as nice in hot weather). Cheers

Goat Power bikes are e-mopeds. Not to say they are not cool, I want one. But if I could only get one, I'd rather get an ecells monstar for a little more money. Depending where you live, if cops have nothing better to do, they might stop you on a motor goat, but maybe not.
@jfly22493 ай бұрын
I think you will soon see that the e cells AWD bikes are much less powerful and much more expensive than the competition that is lurking in the shadows ready to pounce. The Monster is a bike for little girls in comparison to what is coming next. Why would anyone trust a 70 year old coked up felon with thousands of dollars to wait months for a bike that has never been tested or reviewed? Stupid is as stupid does.

@@jfly2249 So $3929.42 out the door for Wired Predator vs. Ecells Monstar $3,595. Less powerful, but not more expensive. Now the Wired Cruiser for $2518.92 vs. Ecells Step Star for $2,795 you've got a better price difference in favor of Wired. Great that Wired is more powerful, but both got plenty of power.

E-cells was around way before wired lol. So who copied who E-cells has been using this frame and style for over 5yrs. Plus wired has too many issues and horrible customer service. I thought you did better research and you said your not sponsored by them but didn't they send that bike to you for free? The new model is horrible with death wobble and they won't help customers that report it. WOW

E cells trolls from a company run by a 70 year old felon who started e cells while on house arrest after serving 12 years in prison and receives an F rating from the BBB. The e cells dual star has a horrible death wobble they are trying to conceal, deleting every negative comment . kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3PTnn2Zm7WEp8Usi=Y-XTB6qMEVr1hmMr

Different market segments. Many people want a bike to pedal and don’t want to look like a kid on a toy motorcycle, or get hassled by Karen’s and cops. Others much prefer the e moped style, still others prefer an electric dirt bike. The motor goat isn’t very good off road and has no cargo capability In terms of bang for your buck, the new Wired bikes are hard to beat. But different strokes for different folks.

Yes, I like to pedal and I especially like the large cranks on the Freedom/E-Cell/Keplers (I have a Kepler). When I am on PAS5 doing like 35 mph and still pedaling and contributing without ghost pedaling its a really special feeling. I have a Moped style too but I had to stick like 8 inches of foam on the seat to get it to where I could pedal with decent leverage and I also had to swap out the free wheel for one with an 11t gear but its a fun bike too. I like my Kepler a lot but it does look like the Freedom packs a hell of a lot into a $2300 dollar (with shipping) bike. I got my Kepler for $1500 with shipping included and I still think that would hit the sweet spot for a lot of people, dollar and performance wise. Though as the Man said for the Freedom also applies to the Kepler - its a massive frame. I am 5'11" and feel like a little kid riding the thing. On the other hand, it feels real good to be able to see over lots of stuff and also to be seen. So many good ebikes to choose from, I have 5 and still find myself window shopping for the next one :)

bullshit ok. wired has 2 battery's and the step through version of wired can seat 5/3 riders easily. And if don't like wired seat buy cloud 9 fat seat. Wired cruiser bike lime green color is a beast. You can take your Billy goat to the trash bro. Also 0-20 mph wired is faster

I’d love to have a fast electric bike but unless you only ride off-road, you are a lawyer’s dream because they are illegal to ride on public streets. So if you get in an accident, even if it’s not your fault, you (or your parents) can be sued big time, or even wind-up in jail. Caveat emptor.

I ride mine to work every day. As long as you're not a complete asshole, it's no problem even at 55mph. I have an Aprilia 1100 and I honestly prefer my Talaria for commuting. And I did have an accident once involving police and it was fine. Be respectful and you won't have a problem.

@jfly22492 ай бұрын
E cells is a tiny little company run out of a convicts trailer home in butt plug Nevada. Before they copied Wired’s old drivetrain, they had sold less than 1000 bikes total. E cells price point was 4k- 5k AWD which was an absolute rip off which is why they sold so few bikes. Nobody had ever heard of e cells and you are mentally deficient if you believe otherwise. Btw, Wired has 1000 more watts, a thru axle, UL certification and is much less expensive.
