**UPDATE** Please note Active Parking Assist has been removed from certain new models from approx 2020 onwards (pre built models and old models will be unaffected). This is due to the new United Nations regulation (UN-R-79). This basically requires systems like this to have a hands on / hands off sensor to detect if you have your hands on the steering wheel or not. I'm sure Mercedes-Benz are working hard on this for future models in years to come but will not be available on new cars until further notice. Speak to your local dealership to clarify on further details.

Could you do a video on remote parking? Also since you're friendly with your mercedrs dealer can you get any info on the software update recall, I'm reading negative implications on fuel economy and performance after the update
@npoleary4 жыл бұрын
Hi David, I would love to do a remote parking assist video but only a couple of models have it. I don’t think Mercedes-Benz of Poole have had one for a long time to be honest. If they do get one, I might consider it! Really sorry, I’m not given much info on recalls etc Have you spoken to the service advisor who looked after you on the day? Just wondering if they knew / might be able to help?
@erkleturk14 жыл бұрын
Hi Nick, can you clarify this please? I took delivery of my new GLC 220d AMG Line Premium last week and for the life of me I can’t get this parking assist to work. On watching your video I think it maybe because I was trying to use it without being between two cars. However, this comment has thrown me a little. I have the parking button as per your second car in this video but does it mean mine could be deactivated?
@npoleary4 жыл бұрын
It’s not a case of being deactivated, it literally won’t be on the car...but...it’s rolling out now so your Mercedes-Benz might still have it. When you press the P button, does it come up with scanning for spaces on your car screen?

Hey Phil, thank you glad you like the content! Oh yes in 2019 / early 2020 United Nations Regulations came into affect that stipulated the use of hands on / hands off sensors in steering wheels if it had an Active Parking Assist system. Sadly because this law was written at such short notice, manufacturers had little choice but to just not install this at factory level. There are only a couple of models in the Mercedes range that have the hardware and comply with the newly introduced regulations which means those models can offer the active park assist system, one of which is the E-Class. I’m sure Mercedes are working on something for future model releases!

Two things: 1) Does it park on other (drivers) side, let say if local road is one way and parking spaces are on both sides? Or if I visit Europe from UK? 2) Parking at shopping centre in between two cars is 100% guaranty your sides will be vandalised by other careless users (especially hens with kids).

Hi Nemo it sure does! If it’s the classic / older system then use your indicator to select which side you want to park on. If it’s the new one, it scans both at the same time anyway. Yes you’re right I’ll personally try to avoid parking in between cars for that same reason!

Hi Nick, thanks for such a clear demo. I have a 2017 GLE 500e and often it seems to be a bit hit or miss whether or not the system recognises a suitable parking space. I get that the speed has to be under a certain number, but is there also a recommended distance I need to be away from the back of the cars on either side? Also, the Parking Active Assist manual on the GLE tells me I can use the system to exit a parking space as well, but I've never been able to get this to work (not that I really need it!). Can I assume that's because I might be too close to the cars on either side?
@npoleary4 жыл бұрын
Hi ozodyssey, Yes the parking assist system scans for spaces under 20mph but I have found it is more accurate at lower speeds. Not really, I haven't seen an actual measurement for how far away when actually looking for a space, usually just a close as you can ideally. With getting the car out of the space, it only works for parallel parking spaces and yes there does have to be adequate space either side just in case one of the other cars had moved.
@HS-PGX4 жыл бұрын
I find that it somehow helps sometimes to drive past a space twice or thrice (You may look weird doing it) and especially while keeping the turn signal on. Parallel parking isn't a problem for me though. 2016 GLE 500e.

Thanks for the demo. My 2018 S450 has this feature but it does not seem to be at all reliable. It misses most obvious spaces, even though they fit the criteria of having parked cars on either side. Today it actually identified a space where there wasn't one and proceeded to start self-parking maneuvers. It ended up lightly bumping another parked vehicle before I realized there wasn't even an available space and took over. Weather was perfect so that was not a factor. There is either something wrong with my car or Mercedes should never have released this system.
@npoleary4 жыл бұрын
Hi John, There are of course lots of factors involved with a park assist system but from the sounds of it a check might be needed. I’d give your local Mercedes-Benz a call and they’ll be able to just check your parking sensors as that’s what it uses to complete the manoeuvre.

Hi Nick. I came back to this video as I was trying to use my Park Assist on my 2021 GLE a few times, but its just searching and not recognising the space. I'm mainly tried to use it for parallel parking. Can you think of any issue here? I'm not sure what might be the issue... Thanks for the great tutorials, keep up the good work.
@npoleary2 жыл бұрын
Hey MrWestcliffe, Thank you! Glad you enjoy the videos! Sadly Active Parking Assist had been removed from certain new models from approx 2020 onwards. This was due to the new United Nations regulation (UN-R-79). This basically requires systems like this to have a hands on / hands off sensor to detect if you have your hands on the steering wheel or not. Best thing to do is get in touch with your local Mercedes and they’ll be able to let you know what yours can do

Hey Nick, my parking assistant is one feature of my car that I am so intimidated to use because most of the time you usually get in traffic and if it doesn’t work, then you have to take it out of the parking assist program and put in the manual, and just park the damn car for some reason my car will drive past an open parking space and then I literally have to back the car and put it in myself either. I’m not close enough to that car or something but it just makes me so nervous using it that I hardly ever use it what should I do?

Hey Luis, thank you! And glad you love the videos! It depends on your model of Mercedes, if it’s the previous park assist system, it’ll just show the white arrows and you can’t select which space you want, you’ll just have to drive past further for the next space if that makes sense. For the newer systems on the display, you can select which space you want 🤓

Ah that’ll be the new one, just be aware that Active Parking Assist was removed last year on some models (not sure which countries were affected, it could be all of them). Thanks L. Ralph Mellon! 🤓 glad you’re liking the videos! No sadly the software on the car is as is, it can’t be updated to anything newer found on some of the newer ones. It’s not just software as the newer cars as they have faster processors etc and higher graphics capability to run it.

Hey Lyndon, The option comes up on the screen automatically for you to choose on the latest system however make sure you drive past the space further. If you don’t drive past it enough, the car has no choice but to do this because you haven’t given it enough room. Let me know how you get on :)

Hi Nick, great videos! Thank you for being so thorough. Quick question - is there any way to adjust the distance the car parks from the curb when parallel parking? My 2017 C220d kept a great distance, about 3-4 inches from the curb, but my new 2019 C300 parks a mile away from the curb. The new car has a single outer guideline on each side of the tyre lines on the screen which it lines up to, whereas the old car perhaps didn't have side sensors and therefore only showed the tyre lines. Any tips? Thanks!
@npoleary3 жыл бұрын
Hey Paddy W, thank you! The system parks you at a set distance based on how others have parked. So if the other two cars are fairly close to the kerb then it may park you close too. As it uses ultrasound it can only work on the objects that are there at that current time so sadly you can’t adjust any parameters on it.

Great video. Just got a new 21 plate GLC 300d that is supposed to have Park Assist. However, it does not seem to work. Is it true Park Assist has been disabled on these models?
@npoleary3 жыл бұрын
Hey David, Yes that’s right, although it’s not disabled it’s physically not there on new cars. Here are the notes pinned on the video and the description 🤓 **UPDATE** Please note Active Parking Assist has been removed from certain new models from approx 2020 onwards (pre built models and old models will be unaffected).

@@npoleary thanks for this. Wish Mercedes had made that clear. All the marketing material and instruction manuals still say that Park Assist is on car. Disappointed as was on my 2018:glc and will miss it.
@npoleary3 жыл бұрын
Hey David, all dealerships should be communicating this to everyone. Park Assist is Mercedes terminology for parking sensors (lights and sound) “Active” Park Assist means the car will actively do something for you. This is the part that is no longer available and affects all manufacturers. I’m hoping technology in the future allows it to come back!

Absolutely! Yes the driver should always use the brake as you are controlling the car. It’s an assistant system so the driver is always in full control at all times and can cancel it at a moments notice. Some models do assist with braking but the driver should always be in full control.

Hi Tony, I wasn't going to do a separate video on the park assist system as I cover it in this video at 1:18. Hi Prince Gordon, Remote Parking is extremely rare on Mercedes-Benz Cars, it's only ever been available on a couple of models in the UK so just double check that you have it first. You can check this via the factory spec sheet or in the car go to "Settings, Assistance, Parking, and as long as you have it you'll see Remote Parking in there somewhere. Just click onto the menu and download the app from the App Store called "Remote Parking" and follow all of the steps. Just make sure your car is linked to your Mercedes me account as you will need it linked to make it work.

Now, you're my go-to guy when I need to make the most of my car's features. I do have one question on the Parking Assist: The few times I've used the feature, it doesn't offer me a choice of whether I want to park forward or in reverse - it's just straight up forward parking. Hey Bolivar, thank you! Glad you’re enjoying the videos! Sadly Active Parking Assist isn’t available here in the UK, hasn’t been available now for about 2 years. Although If it’s the same system as it used to be when I last used it, make sure you drive past the space further. When you press the P Button and it scans the spaces, keeping driving past the space. If you don’t go far enough the only manoeuvre it can achieve is the forward one. Just drive a few more meters forward and it should do it 🤓
