I feel like Dodie (with the help of her crew) is a really great composer, it's always surprising how she manages to keep the "I made this in my bedroom at 2:00 a.m." vibe, but when seeing it live, there's so many people involved in making that sound. Tiny Desk, you got me again. I watched out of curiosity, never having heard of the Dodie. If I am being honest, I clicked with a bit of 50-something cynicism. The lyrics, orchestration, talent and passion of the entire band drew me in immediately. They were incredibly well-rehearsed and crisp. Dodie’s lyrics were real, raw, expressive and vivid in how she paints a story. I am now a fan of Dodie, who knew? Thank you Tiny Desk for bringing this talented artist and her equally talented band to us.

ive been a fan of Dodie for,,, id wanna say coming up on 8/9 years now? and ever since i knew about the existence of tiny desk concerts ive wanted one from her so badly. shes such a phenomenal performer, i've been lucky enough to see her live multiple times, and even met her once, and she is truly one of the most amazing musicians to exist! every new album/single/ep is better and more amazing than the last, her ability to work with layering instruments and voices is insane and im so so so happy she finally got an opportunity to have a tiny desk concert !!!

My now-husband introduced me to Dodie pretty early into our now 8 year relationship, and it's been incredible to watch her grow and evolve and just be so in awe of her musical ability, her willingness to take risks with her chord progressions and harmonies, and to relate more than I'd like to admit to so many of her songs. If any artist ever deserved a tiny desk, she's definitely one of them, and I feel so glad we finally got to see it happen! PS, the audio engineer for this was absolutely incredible!

I think connection can even dislodge the cool, rock solid rhythm of AP & Free Nationals from the top. We really love A Friday in the Life of Richard and Betty. It's a beautiful song. it's incredible to see dodie play a tiny desk after loving her music for several years. to see her growth from back in the day to where she is now is nothing short of heartwarming. her music was a defining part of my teenage years, and now i'm in the middle of college wondering where the time went. i'm so proud to see her here and i can't wait to see where she goes next.

I remember finding dodie in my teens and watching her youtube videos every day for comfort when I was living in a very toxic household - it makes me so emotional to see how far she's come and equally how far I've come myself from being that lonely teen, it honestly feels like we've grown together. oh wow im so happy to see this!! dodie was everything to me when i was younger but for some reason i lost track of her. the only song i know here is "when." so beautiful to hear that song again as a 22 year old, knowing this was my depression/dissociation anthem as a 15 year old. and like dodie, i still relate a little and always will. it wasn't just her music that brought me comfort at that age. the internet was different back then, and she was the first person i found who was so open about her mental health and she always put everything i felt into words so well. i even bought her book "secrets for the mad." it was like having an older sister. anyways really happy to rediscover her here and sooo excited to binge all her new music and videos that i've been missing out on! love you dodie 💗

Wow this comment hit so very close to home! I am also 22 and found Dodie when I was a severely depressed and lonely tween. She made me feel seen in a time where those struggles we were facing wasn’t the norm to talk about. I also preordered her book and read it like it was my own personal survival guide. I couldn’t have said it better, you got it exactly right, it felt like having a lovely, kind, gentle, loving older sister there to guide you, cry with you, relate to you and hold your hand through it all

god it just feels so great seeing dodie getting the recognition she deserves. To get to relate so much of my life situations through her music and to see that same person get to a much better place feels so exhilarating and worth it. I remember my depressed seventeen year old self just unintentionally stumbling upon dodie's channel and hearing her song 'when', I felt the numbness in me slowly start to leave my body when I cried uncontrollably. I felt seen, heard and understood for the very first time, and I couldn't be more thankful for that.Dodie you inspire me so much. I wish nothing but the best for what's to come. To whatever venture you are on I will always be in awe of your artistry. And Orla gartland too...can't wait for her tiny desk concert 🙌 I am such in awe of these two women in music making waves and just being genius in their own art.

This is so beautiful, especially When is done so so beautifully. The lyrics are gut punching, I can't lie. The instrumental is very warm and somber, gives me a very Olafur Arnalds sense. I haven't listened to you much for the past couple of years admittedly, Dodie, but I'm glad to know you're still the talented wonder you're showcasing here.
