I thought it should be "vado a lavarsi le mani" . I remembered that there're 3 main ending, which are "-arsi, -ersi , -irsi", of how a verb would be defined as reflexive.

You are correct that reflexive verbs end in "-arsi, -ersi , -irsi" ... in the finitive form. When conjugating the reflexive with another verb, let's say 'volere' you have to make the reflexive verb agree with the subject even when attached to the infinitive. Compare: (io) voglio lavarmi, (tu) vuoi lavarti, (lui) vuole lavarsi ...

Pedemonte Mario Ciao Mario, Grazie per il commento. 'La mano' is in fact feminine, which is an exception to the rule that nouns ending in -o are masculine. Without getting into too much detail, this word derives from Latin word that also looks masculine "manus, manūs", but is feminine. That is where it comes from.

Pedemonte Mario As to your first question, is it not incorrect to say "lavo le mie mani". You would be understood, but it would be awkward to a native speaker. It sounds like a direct translation from English. This kind of reflexive is called an indirect reflexive (riflessivo indiretto). The action of the verb doesn't fall back directly on the subject, but still takes from the verb some of the action.
