If you like this topic check out Dr Lustig’s books like Metabolical or Dr Fung’s Obesity Code. It’s not as simple as sugar is bad or carbs are bad, and based on those authors it isn’t as simple as calories in-out: it’s heavily about timing and insulin response. It turns out Insulin is what determines weight “set point”.

I know it's only about an hour talk, and Lane admits his ignorance where he's supposed to---and he also said he has no problem being wrong. I would agree with Lane on probably 90%+, however his ignorant area is something we are all dealing with today in modern USA society, especially our kids. I have one child who is of healthy weight, eats real foods, now almost 100% local bought and homemade with as little to no preservatives as possible(and we join her of course as a family). We raise our own meat, we grow our own vegetables/fruits, or we buy from those we trust. Why? Because she's had migraines for 4-5 days/week going on about 3 years now. According to multiple scans, mainstream neurologists, Children's hospital etc... we're to just "manage" this and take any prescriptions she can handle or might help her. She's 13, that's ridiculous--migraines for the rest of her life? Know what has been the only thing to generally help so far? Healthy keto/carnivore style foods, very limited sugars of any kinds, no grains at all, and no modern dairy. Even some raw milk A2A2 dairy products still can cause other problems. But that's it---her migraines went from 4-5/week to about 1-2/week. If she has seed oils, she'll get a migraine. If she eats any grains, she'll get a migraine. If she eats even local raw honey sweetened products she'll get a migraine. What am I getting at? There's more to our foods now than there was 75 years ago. Just look at the ingredients and how they've changed on any processed foods. They lie on the front of the box all the dang time too. And eating truly healthy local foods is about 3x the cost of on the front end compared to other store bought stuff. I'm about to pay $600 to have 5 sheep slaughtered for meat that I raised on grass/hay. That's the cost of keeping my daughter from having debilitating migraines though, so we do it. Long rants over---point is, you need to research the other stuff too. Generationally we are screwing up our kids and their kids with these ultra-processed foods.

I think this conversation missed the mark in a couple areas. I understand they were trying to drive home the point of personal accountability, and that is very important, but the dangers of micro plastics is not a conspiracy theory the dangers of a lot of the ingredients in food like artificial dyes is not a conspiracy theory. @@Mysterious_MoonI lost 50lbs. I'm at a healthy BMI now, and I've kept it off for almost four years. I didn't get here through moderation and self control. Self control doesn't work long term for anyone. What does work is creating an environment where the healthy choice is the most convenient. What does work is choosing not to consume foods that are engineered to increase your consumption. What does work is discovering what triggers your relapses and learning to avoid those situations entirely. If you're trying to quit smoking, don't walk into a bar where everyone else is smoking. If you're trying to lose weight, don't keep your pantry stocked with junk food. Keep some prepared carrots in your fridge instead, for example. It's all about setting yourself up for future success. This conversation about "Well, it's all about moderation and calories in, calories out" isn't helpful, and focusing on self control leads to worse outcomes because we inevitably find ourselves wallowing in our failure. Yes, it's up to use to make the right decisions, but self control is not how people maintain a healthy lifestyle long term. And, as much as I agree that each of us are ultimately responsible for our own decisions, we also have to acknowledge the fact that we have an obesity epidemic, and it's not because human nature changed. People did not have more self control 50 years ago. What has changed is the food we consume. As a society, we need to acknowledge this problem and hold businesses accountable for the effect their decisions have made on public health.

Is there a correlation between low testosterone and below normal weight (in men)? If so...Does the low weight cause low testosterone or the low testosterone causes low weight? Asking because I have (a past) history dating this kind of guys and I'm just curious.
@pedrothevenard4 күн бұрын
Not necessarily the low weight, but the low eating that causes the low weight can absolutely dramatically decreases testosterone. Meaning, there are people that eat adequate amount of food and nutrients and have low body weight and normal testosterone. But if the low body weight cames from a prolonged under feeding like a long diet or anorexia, than the testosterone can suffer greatly. Either way the best thing to do is just get a good doctor and do a blood work if you suspect that your testosterone is giving you problems.
@dana1020834 күн бұрын
Low weight often means low muscle mass. An d. That correlates to low testosterone in men. A lot of thin underweight men i know are also depressed and were introverted computer guys..lack of vit D? The human body wants to prepare for procreation and food as priorities so underweight people are not conducive for reproduction..women too lose their periods (no peririd doesnt mean youre not ovulating, though) but it also can mean that too. But i think theres a higher chance the low weight came first. The guys ive seen it was genetic as either brothers or dad had it too but were all quite tall. Bad posture and inactivity.. that seems to be a circle of negative habits and lack of motivation.. It may be a strongest survive and make it function of nature.. Thats just my opinion, I used to be a nirse before I became disabled with a genetic disorder! Ketosis has really helped that..supports the brain especially. 🙏🏼

Really disappointed in this interview. The interviewee seems to imply refined sugar and highly processed foods are no big deal; they're not a problem to human health. And in the same breath says obesity is an epidemic in the USA. And Dr. John seems to say it's a mystery as to why obesity is an epidemic. Sure, self-discipline and accountability for your own actions are an important aspect of a person's life. But, umm, it's OK to understand that the obesity rise correlates with how food conglomerates have changed the way we eat in the past 40-50 years. Sure, I choose to buy what I buy in the grocery store. And I choose to drive through Popeye's or to go home and eat my broccoli stir fry. But saying it's all on the individual is like saying Just Say No To Drugs when you live in a freakin crack house.

Not what he said! LISTEN to the interview. He said EVERYTHING in moderation and to budget your calories. Geez people LISTEN and stop hearing what you want out of this! 🙄
@droptozro3 күн бұрын
@@flashthecorgi2053 We did listen, I think if we had an actual longer form interview/deeper confrontational questioning Lane would likely agree or admit his ignorance. There's no way one can just say fruit sugar(fructose) is the same as corn syrup fructose in a candy bar when the entire picture is taken on and how it really affects the body. That's a type of lying by omission to break it down that much. One is much more addictive than the other, and to eat the same amount of corn syrup sugar in candy bars would leave you feeling hungry in a few hours, while you might even struggle to eat the same amount of sugar in apples because of all the fiber and other nutrients that slow the intake of sugars. Example, a snickers bar has 27g of sugar, while an apple might have 10g-15g of sugar. If you ate 3 snickers for 81g of sugar, you would likely NOT be able to comfortably eat 5-8 apples comfortably. One is real food, the other is highly processed. That doesn't even count the fact that modern apples are bred for more sugar content, so historically it might be even more apples. And no, you should not eat EVERYTHING in moderation---there's tons of things that most other countries ban that Americans ingest and should never put in their bodies. Look at what the ingredients of McDonald's fries were 75 years ago vs today. The real problem is, most people cannot eat in moderation---just like Layne's example using budgeting, notice how Dave tells almost everyone to avoid credit cards/debt cause they cannot control it? Same with food. Most cannot control it cause it's scientifically created in a lab to be as addictive as possible so you'll buy more. I agree with the calories in/calories out generally, but the problem is most people's bodies are not even working correctly after 3-4 generations shifting more and more of their diet to ultra-processed foods. Our kids are paying for it. Point is, Layne is oversimplifying things. I agree that messy action is better than knowledge without action, but you can look great and muscular, but still be screwing up your liver. That dude he told to eat modern ice cream every day will pay for it in 30 years even if he loses weight. It's not just about weight. My dad is very lean like I am, very active like I am, and he's still diabetic now.
@flashthecorgi20533 күн бұрын
@ Dr. John said that he tried the avoiding sugar thing altogether and that it caused a bunch of downstream problems that it shouldn’t of so with Layne’s advice it has helped him so much. He’s just sharing that here, doesn’t need to cause a bunch of drama. Layne is not saying eat a bunch of sugar, and it’s not going to cause problems. He said BUDGET the calories!
@droptozro2 күн бұрын
@@flashthecorgi2053 Okay, that's because of what I said earlier and Layne I believe admits it too--we're surrounded by it all, and it's fricking addictive. I'm not immune, so don't misunderstand me. Most people are not so self-disciplined they can ignore all the addictive sugary food, they have to set their lives up so it's hard to get to. And I'm sure working at Ramsey--he's surrounded by sweets, whether it's a sugary coffee or any snack. If he wasn't surrounded by it, it would be easier--it's just too accessible. Otherwise, you didn't respond to much of what I said. I get it, it was long--but the point is still valid. Layne does not know about the intricacies of all the crap they're putting into the foods today and how it's now affecting generation after generation. Kids are being born almost diabetic, I think I heard from a doctor the other day 1 in 3 kids under 18 is now prediabetic. I'm not saying we were perfect historically, but you can look back at beach photos from the 1950s and their is rarely a fat person---today, most are overweight or obese. There's tons of other problems too, but just look around---counting calories may be true, but it ain't working. Exactly why Dave says get out of debt and cut up credit cards cause people most can't control it.

I just listened to the audio podcast. Are you sure this guy isn't being funded by Coke? I used to be obese and I lost all of it, and I've kept it off for several years. I didn't do it through self control and moderation. The food industry pays people to say that because they know it's bullcrap and no one actually loses weight through self control. You do it by completely removing addictive substances from your life. (There's a bit more to it - look up Kiana Docherty for detailed information.) No one avoids cancer by smoking only moderately. You really ought to delete this video. You're just making people sicker.

Did you half ass listening to this or just skip it entirely? Gaining and losing weight is almost entirely decided by self control, so moderate amounts of behavior (small bowl of ice cream) is always going to be better than childishly binging on garbage. Someone may consider certain foods "addictive" but just like every other addiction, you don't get to skip out on personal responsibility. Just because someone wants an easy excuse doesn't make the person telling the truth incorrect.

This dude said fruit sugar is the same as sweets sugar… no it’s literally not at all. Fruit sugar is sucrose. Sweets sugar is fructose. Literally not at all the same. This guy may be intelligent but he’s totally wrong. You can google that for yourself and see they are not at all the same.

@jakelane4254 күн бұрын
@@maam-yj8ph exactly. The fiber slows the speed the sugar reaches the liver. That’s why fruit juice is horrible. All the sugar of 6 oranges hits your liver all at once whereas if you ate 6 oranges you wouldn’t be able to even accomplish that but if you did, the fiber slows the sugar digestion. This guy was literally a dumbass. This is why I don’t care what titles or degree someone has. @@Guitarlvr01 he said if sugar sweets are that bad than fruit also would have to be bad because it’s the same sugar either way. That’s literally completely incorrect. And even if it was correct, the fiber in the fruit slows the sugar reaching the liver and it slowly is digested as opposed to a straight shot of all the sugar at once hitting your liver. He’s wrong on both concepts lmao.

Im all about everything in moderation. The problem is research can be tweaked to prove any point. What you have to really look at is WHO is financing the research! Our country is also one of the unhealthiest and sickest developed countries yet supposedly have the resources at our fingertips. If you look at other countries and how few ingredients are allowed compared what the U.S allows. For example, look at the cereal contents in other countries. We also may work out but most of us drive everywhere. Ultimately, I usually love the interviews Deloney brings on but I really have a hard time with this guy. He comes across young and arrogant. Deloney could say the same things and it would be heard differently. Its not what you say, but how you say it. Sigh.
@joeraguso53764 күн бұрын
Looking at who financed the research is what uneducated people who dont understand how to interpret data do.
@Zachhatesyoutube5 күн бұрын
Layne will reference all kinds of studies to support his arguments, but I challenge everybody here to pull up the studies yourself, one by one. Find a way past the gatekeeping, try to understand the overly verbose syntax and statistics, get a full comprehension of what was done, how they did it, etc. Then ask yourself, how many steps of the scientific method was completed? You will find that 100% of them do not go through all of the steps, infact most of them only do enough work to form a hypothesis. FRAUDS like Layne Norton come along and take those hypothesis and try to sell them to normal people as if real science was done. Now find your way to the conflict of interest section to see who funds these studies. Usually its a looooooong list of sugar and processed food companies. Then ask yourself why would a corporation spend money on science research? is it because corporations want to advance human knowledge? Or are they looking for a ROI like they always do. Think about it. DO NOT BELIEVE ANYTHING THESE "SCIENTISTS" SAY. BELIEF IS THE ENEMY OF KNOWLEDGE. DOUBLE CHECK THEIR WORK.

I don't trust anyone. 😂 Especially people selling stuff. But I do trust real people's experiences and stories and like to see patterns and apply to my own life and circumstances since we are all different. I have a healthy balance of questioning people while also ah I g open ear to hear people out. But I do think there is much more nuance to individuals so even if you have a study that study isn't done on you and the way stuff affects you personally is different than how it affects everybody in the study. One lady I heard speak about placebos and using power of belief to heal herself was fascinating to me. It really made me think about studies in general they always have control groups in certain percentages of those people end up getting better. I think our own minds can help or hinder us a ton. Can ever fully grasp us as humans and how amazing our bodies our brains what are the differences between us all are. I think we try to make things black and white or to fit into certain boxes. And I don't think we can. And sure Data can be an important tool but it isn't set in stone what that means for us. There are so many factors. Everyone needs to figure that out for themselves. But doing nothing shouldn't be the choice.... Unless you are in a season of rest. And if that is what is needed then that's cool too. ❤ I love learning and knowledge. We all are sums of our own life experiences and what we take in. A full spectrum of life. 😊
