I’m an abstainer for sure. I made up my mind two weeks ago and I have found it easy. It was such a revelation understanding moderator/abstainer. At this time in New Zealand it’s harvest time so I’m abstaining from fresh ripe apricots,grapes,plums , fresh veg from my veg garden, standing in the pea patch munching peas. I’ve been amazed that I just don’t cheat - at all. Thank you -love the freedom from addiction! Feel normal around food - not hungry hungry, don’t panic when a meal is delayed, don’t binge, and my energy is even all day. I’m back riding my horses - feel so much stronger ,steadier , more confident! At 72, I thought I had to give up riding. Not so! I’m thrilled!

I use truth journaling to replace the lies I tell myself (I deserve this food, it’s been a stressful day, or I’m bored) and replace the lies with truth ( this will not fill a void or make me feel better or solve a problem. I’m worthy of more. Etc). It’s wildly helpful for braking the desire. And bringing freedom.

Thank you so much for this wise and informative conversation. I can now, at long last, have a theoretical understanding and a language to describe how I’ve felt for decades. I’ve lived with the shame of feeling abnormal because of my uncontrollable cravings. But now I see what I suspect I’ve always known....abstinence is the only way that I can manage addiction. In the past few months I’ve seen my decades long depression lift and I feel balanced and physically and emotionally healthier than I could ever have imagined. Carnivore and plenty of fat is healing me daily! Thanks again to both of you....keep spreading the message x

Thank you so much for this video, Judy. This conversation is so healing for me to listen to. I have that exact sabotaging voice in my head that you discuss. I need to treat my food addiction as seriously as someone would treat an alcohol or drug addiction. Yet I always end up making “life is short” or “just this once” excuses. These excuses resulted in falling off the wagon after over a year of carnivore, gaining 20 lbs after losing 40, a surge or psoriasis, and a major wave of depression. Nope, it was NOT WORTH IT! (And PS I have major moderator envy! :)

Just remember that the voice of sabotage is a liar! It’s never “just one bite” or “just this once” and our track record proves it. When that voice tries to derail you, responding out loud with a resounding, “No! I don’t do that anymore.” can be pretty powerful.

Yes! Don’t bring it up! And they won’t even notice. Best holiday advice. I try to put on my “righteous indignation” hat as well. Like “ew, gross, why would I ever eat something that terrible” out of principle. This attitude also helps.

For some including myself moderation just does not & can not work. I just wound up fat, brain fog, pre Diabetic, depressed.... So I would say Abstinence is key step to take in shedding weight, sickness & continual carb, sugar cravings. Worth every bit of effort saying No to carbs takes. 💖

you ladies have made me realize that to kick RA and stay healthy on Keto/Carnivore that I will also have to be an "abstainer". don't have the mental ability to moderate if the addicting food is there. not our fault either, I just watched another video where the speaker explained how complicated the food laboratory scientists get when making their processed food to be totally addictive. almost like we are fighting a war against food makers and abstinence is the only way to win?

Wonderful video Judy! Have been following Mary on Facebook. Love hearing yourself and others about this lifelong problem. So glad you younger ladies have pursued this course and helped generations of us that have suffered so long. Interesting how moderators seem to attach themselves to abstainers. Abstainers seem to be the strong ones and maybe we are. Have had a lot of practice. Thank you both 👏👏👏

One trick I use for staying on track with any diet is to buy skinny clothes that I intend to fit into when I’m slim.I love opshop ping - mainly classic clothes that do not date. I have a whole wardrobe of beautiful, mainly secondhand classic garments that I visualise wearing. It’s a wonderful visualisation!

Wow, you guys really helped me feel less crazy! I'm def an abstainer and my husband a moderator. And doing keto it's kinda OK but too much to think about and a constant negotiation in my head about the carbs. But going carnivore (or 80-90% carnivore, the rest still keto) take a lot of the stress away since the "rules" are simpler and eliminating a huge variety so I don't have to think in moderating. I rather not feel like I have to control carbs and portions to fit the carb count but then feel hungry, as opposed to knowing I can have a huge, filling piece of meat with much needed fat and protein, and feel totally full and full longer without cravings! All this also makes me want to snap back at my husband or mother for always saying eat in moderation, start exercising, blah blah blah. Sometimes it's with the good intention since it's what we've all been told all of our lives, but sometimes it's also "judgy" a bit like we're the ones being lazy and fat and it's always our own fault. THANK YOU for this video!

Am I an abstainer if junk food in the house doesn't bother me at all, I even cook and bake for my family without being tempted. There is even my favorite chocolate in the pantry that's about to expire... But keto inevitably leads to carb creep and weight gain and cheating.

The whole world says “just eat less and exercise more” I’m 55 and have worked in a Fitness center for 18 years...I am so SICK and TIRED of that line of crap! I am a carb sugar/addict who has battled 75# of overweight on and off since I was in my 20’s! I have gone up and down several times..even achieved lifetime status in WW....I thought keto was going to totally fix me...I am now Carnivore I just can’t listen to standard and tired old nutritional or fitness recommendations anymore! I am NOT a moderator! I can’t even start with one bite! I think there are very few moderators left in our carb addicted world..and even if they are able to moderate are they still developing symptoms of metabolic syndrome from “moderate” SAD woe?

years ago i listened to 30 days straight to a 4 hours seminar of bob proctor and it changhe my life in some ways. i reckon that with this conversation i will do the same. some insights are very inspiring and need to get deep into my brain. one above all the part in which she is talking about cheat days. you program ( and this is the addicted mind ) once a month and it is the beginning of the end. happened so many times that i should learn , but some things are , willingly , soon forgotten e re-done at libitum after reading all the comments, i need to state that i am a man and men also struggle with food addiction.

Do you think there is anything addictive about processed meats? I cannot control around sausages ,roasted chicken wings, hotdogs, low carb meatballs etc, but pure meat I cannot binge on because its not attractive to me. Do I have to abstain from these processed foods?
@ketomary7114
@ketomary7114 5 жыл бұрын
Elle D Yes, most processed meats have dextrose or maltodextrin which are forms of sugar. So knowing that, it’s easy to understand how we can over eat them. Salami always triggers me to feel more “hungry” so I generally avoid it.
@mamamia4147

Sausages, hot dogs, all the processed meats have cornsyrup or malodextrin in it. Corn syrup is like a drug. Stay away, stay very far away. You might as well eat a piece of cheesecake lol. Both very addicting. Pure meat with butter or fat will take the addictions away

Like me, you’re probably extremely carb sensitive even to trace elements of carbs so abstinence is key. I’ve yo-yo’d on keto for the past year and a half after losing nearly 60lbs and reversing negative health markers. My health improved even more with the carnivore woe and yet I binged. The realization for me is I’ve eaten heavily processed foods and the SAD diet for nearly 50 years so I need to practice patience with myself. I am an addict to processed foods and sugar. I cannot change years of negative and detrimental behavior overnight but I am committed to the lifestyle.
