For everyone wondering, im doing something kinda similar. It seems like for this weight loss, it would be chicken and broccoli 2 times a day, mixed with intermittient fasting (16 off - 8 on), while only drinking water. Maybe some snacks in the middle, but making sure to stay lowish on carbs so the ketosis kicks in during the fast.

Ditto for cabbage, kale, bok choy, collard greens, radishes, mustard greens, chard, rutabaga, turnips, watercress, arugula, and horseradish. Hint: they, along with broccoli, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts, are all members of the Cruciferous family of vegetables. [cruciferous from Latin relating to crucifixion as their four-leaves arrangement resembles the Cross]. Note: green beans, asparagus, and spinach are not cruciferous. Also note: these same vegetables are part of a larger group that are high in “goitrogens” (because they can contribute to the condition of goiter-a condition that affects the thyroid gland). Excessive consumption of cruciferous (and other goitrogenic foods) vegetables may interfere with your thyroid’s ability to process iodine leading to hypothyroidism so it’s important on these crash diets of “chicken and broccoli” to make sure you’re using salt that has iodine supplementation (regular table salt does but Sea Salt has insufficient amounts of iodine). ONE OF THE MAIN SYMPTOMS OF EARLY HYPOTHYROIDISM IS FEELING TIRED.

I came here to learn a little more. Im considering the chicken broc diet as a baseline to feed myself while i add one food as a time. I want to see how certain foods really make me feel such as tomatoes, grains esp wheat, and various types of sugar. Theres not much better way that i can think of. You can grind chicken and use it like hamburger. You can serve on or off the bone. Broth seems fair. And there is a flavor difference between white and dark meat. One thing to anyone considering this diet is that cruciferous vegetables aka brassicae (look them up) are all genetically the same exact food including brocolli. They were bred from the same ancestral plants for accentuated root, stems, leaves, and flowers. So it seems fair to me that you could branch out beyond just broc....cauliflower, cabbage, kale, turnips, brussell sprouts, bok choy. There are lots more and nutritionally....they are all exactly the same. Why not include them? As for flavor agents they can take you off the rails if you arent careful and then your whole experiment is sabotaged. But if you cant flavor your foods then you might not last either. Ya need something to keep things interesting. Coconut oil and olive oil are considered pretty healthy by most. Then theres fresh herbs...basil parsley dill etc. Chili peppers, onions, garlic, and lemons and limes may contain some sugars but pack big flavors and are very healthy too. Dried spices would prob be fair game too. Paprika, crushed red, cinnamon, black pepper etc. Vary your flavor profiles with your cooking methods. Grilled, sauteed, air fried, stir fried, boiled, steamed.... If you are creative you can make it work.

Ive been eating chicken and broccoli as my fundamental staple meal prep for about 5 years now, consistently every week. For carb I add about 120 cal of wild rice during the winter, and pasta during the summer. With that, I've had to get creative to keep things palatable because otherwise it gets to the point where you feel like you're eating wood chips and tree bark. That means preparing the chicken minimally, and using sauces to create different styles and flavors ... I can do BBQ chicken, chicken pesto, chicken marinara, chicken soup, chicken tacos, buffalo chicken, teryaki chicken, korean chicken, etc. I also eat pizza every weekend to save my sanity and carb load back in. Seems to work ok, but it still feels very restrictive. Wish I could just eat a burger or big fat burrito, but thats the sacrifice I make to look and feel good

I did this for a week as well but I added a cup of riced cauliflower, ate different meats, and I only ate one meal a day, 23:1. Every day I was only taking in about 20-30 carbs, 160-190g of protein, and around 100g of fat but I wasn't really paying attention to it as I was focused on utilizing the fasting period to burn excess fat all day through the low carb aspect. I saw a pretty big impact on the last bit of fat I had around my lower back and stomach. I wanted to keep it going because I really felt like it was going to eventually get me to a really low BFP and finally get rid of the last 5% of body fat that I felt would get me to 12-15%. But it was just not something that I felt was worth it. I consider myself someone who can eat just about anything as long as I can get one meal a week that is anything I want. But I found out within two weeks of this that I am not that person lol. What actually ended up happening was that I finally felt good about not needing to get to that point and even if I did it was not sustainable anyway. In a sense, it finally made me feel good about all the progress I have made and that the fitness magazine look was an insane goal, especially in my late 40s. I found out that I want to look as good as possible, be as healthy as possible, without my entire lifestyle revolving around diet and exercise. Now I don't even track macro's. I maintain as close to a deficit as needed to not gain nor lose. And I dropped a few exercises per week. Basically this extreme diet allowed me to balance out and get the perfect diet and exercise routine for me.

I will say, for about a year I was having steamed chicken breast, broccoli, and white rice for my dinner meal (with protein oatmeal being my breakfast and eggs and spinach being my lunch, with some snacks between meals), I can definitely say that, while I really leaned out and dropped some serious weight (when I started 2019 I weighed close to 215 and by the end I weighed around 187), I will concur that my physical strength pretty much stayed at a consistently meh level and any significant strength improvements were few and far between. That said, that period of time was probably the time I felt most confident about my appearance.

I ate practically nothing but chicken and broccoli for a year when I was trying to lose weight. I lost 70lbs. Then keto became popular but nobody still really knew too much about it. Hitting my fat macros was absolutely horrible to the point I completely fell off the horse and gained back all my weight. I’m going to pick up the chicken and broccoli diet again. But do not be afraid to season and bring flavor to the chicken and broccoli. Roast that broccoli. Grill the chicken. Use sauces reasonably.

I just know that once I start and get into it, the weight will come off so why am I having such a hard time starting it again?

everyone's body is different so you really gotta find the right balance. For me I skipped out on breakfast and essentially fasted till lunch time for chicken and broccoli. I would regularly drink coffee/tea and lots of water to keep hyrdated. And additionally have a piece of fruit in the late afternoon so I don't go hungry throughout the day. Already lost 7 pounds, 4 days in, with very minimal exercising. So it works. I do plan on replacing the broccoli with other vegetables in the coming days as I am kind of getting sick of broccoli lol
