I rotate the engine with the power steering pump pulley (19mm) instead of crankshaft pulley. It's much easier and you can see the crankshaft and camshaft gear marks at the same time. Also you don't need to remove the timing belt upper cover because there is white mark behind the camshaft gear.

The sticker on the bottom of the hood gives the correct valve lash numbers. Since the lash seems to decrease with wear, adjusting toward the higher end of the range may be advisable. This translates to less resistance for the correct size feeler gauge.

The number one exhaust valve lash is insufficient. Is this due to carbon buildup on the valve or head preventing the valve from fully seating? On motorcycles I believe lash tends to increase with wear, at least on the intake.

What happens if you rotate the engine clockwise? Does it damage anything?
@ericxiong65825 жыл бұрын
Rotate the crank pulley the same way the engine rotates. If you rotate it CW, adjustment will be off and it will result in loud valve chatter and possible bent valves.
@garyr70275 жыл бұрын
Rotating the engine backwards causes the timing belt to loosen up too much on the non tension side. If the belt has stretched out of normal wear, it could cause the belt to jump a tooth. Rotate the engine in the right direction keeps tension on both sides of the belt, no chance for the belt to jump.

Problem with this procedure is ya you think cam lobe is in the correct position based on arrow. But without dial indicator on cam lobe you can't accurately verify its actually in correct position. This may be the way Honda mechanics do this but with dial indicator is more accurate way of doing it. If worst comes it worse I would use water level to make sure arrow is perfectly level(car needs to be also).
