You could argue that Finn fell so much faster than Simon did because he was in an emergency situation and had to willingly use the crown's powers instead of fighting against it. Meanwhile Simon described his first time with the crown as arguing and shouting at it and then nearly immediately taking it off.

Spoiler warning?: Because the Lich has existed since the primordial chaos, making him not exist completely would have to rewrite the entire universe from the very beginning into something completely different. So what we got is the closest approximation to "never existed" as Prismo could get without deleting Finn and everything else as well. Prismo probably can't even affect the universe on such a deep level cuz he also gotta exist somehow.

It's interesting how quickly Famworld Finn gets taken over by the crown compared to mainline Simon. Simon mostly held it off for a while, but he was an adult, and only initially put on the crown as a joke. Finn is pretty quickly subsumed, but he's a child and at least initially willingly embraced the crown's power.

Over those 1000 years, the worst he's ultimately been is a creepy pain in the ass and he's still managed to do some good, like raising Marceline. I think these episodes are awesome for a number of cool reasons. Number one, as Nux pointed out, it really puts Ice King's actions and honestly the actually seriously impressive mental fortitude of Simon in context even more than most people realize. Finn, the hero, pure little good-hearted heroic Finn wears the crown for 40 seconds and sets off the apocalypse, tries to enslave the D gang, and goes full villain. Ice King wears it for A THOUSAND YEARS and he's more or less a harmless old alzheimer's patient. Very demure. Also, i love love love Prismo as a genie type character. He's perfectly fine with monkey's paw-ing wishes or granting evil wishes no problem, but he's a genuinely chill guy. He doesn't just "alright man you want a sandwich here's a sandwich lol gg" he genuinely wants to help Jake help his friend. Especially once Jake shows that he just wants to hang out for a while, he's not doing the typical pushing into wishes and twisting thing that basically every wish god/ genie ever does.

One thing you might have missed in this two-parter is the importance of the thugs being called "the Destiny Gang" Finn's wish drove fate away from its course, but fate conspired to set things right: the Mushroom War must happen, the Crown must drive someone mad, the Lich must be born, and Finn Mertons must (at least attempt to) be a hero. And when Finn's wish stopped all of that from happening, the actions of the Destiny Gang served to put things back on course - destiny serving the whims of fate

23:19 since Nux talked about the horn i think this is a good moment to talk about that, it was never explained who exactly broke the Lich's horn in the normal timeline but the most likely theory is that it was Billy, the first time we see the Lich is on the flashback of Billy fighting him in season 1, in that flashback his horn is intact, but then the second time the Lich apears is him stuck on amber after Billy traped him there in the end of their fight and by this point his horn is broken, so Billy probably broke during their fight now one thing that is a bit odd is why the Lich doesn't ever regenerate it, after all we see him regaining his form after possesing the snail but his horn stays broken, my personal theory is that Billy broke his horn using the gauntlet of the hero since it was said to be a weapon to defeat the Loch but qe never actually see its effects on him since Finn wasn't able to hit him even once, so maybe thats why it would be effective because it would negate the Lich's ability to recover whatever the gauntlet destroyed, similar to what happened in star vs the forces of evil for those who have watch it
