As someone who is kinda obsessed with watching NYC apartment videos, and given what you said your weekly rent estimate is, this seems like a pretty good deal tbh. The apartment is well put-together, the in-unit laundry is amaaaaaaaazing, it looks like you're not shoved up against another building so you have good light, and you said you live in Manhattan which is obviously a desirable area. It seems like things are going pretty well, and you won the jackpot for an apartment, especially a first apartment!

Hannah, your apartment is absolutely adorable. You’ve used every inch of your space but it’s so warm as well as functional. For the dining room my immediate instinct would be to have an overhead light fixture. You could hang it a little lower since it’s an eating space and that might help distract from a blank wall and you can move the lamp so you have more table space. I work in architectural design so great job counting brick to scale your space 😂 I know what that’s like I literally do it daily haha I’m obsessed with your space it looks great!

I wanted to comment on what I thought you should do with your blank wall above the dining table. A mirror with a thin gold border and rounded edges is on Wayfair and it would open up your space even more . Also a few trailing plants that could dangle down the wall a little from that open spot at the top between your bedroom and living room would look amazing! 🙏🏻❤️ best of luck with your little life in the city!

I feel like a superstar for landing it--it's literally in one of the best apartment buildings in my city and has been recently remodeled (the entire building was, apparently). It's 900 square feet, which just feels insanely large to me, and it's 2 bed/1 bath with a full dining room and its own laundry room, and--best yet--it's only $650 a month! The kitchen's small (more of a kitchenette), so I was laser focused on your part where you were showing some of your kitchen stuff. I hadn't ever heard of that board thing you have over your stove, and considering there's pretty much no counter space in the kitchen, I'm already planning ahead to figure out solutions for that. :) It's been an adventure already, and I haven't even moved in yet!

For the dining area wall: Just one, larger but bright simple painting/piece of art or a mirror of a similar size. I'm talking rectangular, 6-8 inches up from the table and below the ceiling and about as wide (maybe a little narrower than the table). Over the dining area, I already see it. You can build a floating 2 tier shelf. Hanging by ropes on each side. If the Landlord let's you put hooks on the ceiling to put the floating shelf to put light stuff like plants, picture frames, ornaments or anything you want but has to be light.
