Standard & Strange is one of the best stores in the country for sure!! I hope they eventually carry Brother Bridge and Wheel Robe. They are very well made and are quite affordable compared with the other JP brands.

The best store. I didn't spend enough time when I visited last year but can't wait to get back. Their shop in Santa Fe is totally different as well. Isidro curates a wildly different style of inventory. So much fun.

@@Stridewise yeah Isidro in Santa Fe doesn't like leather jackets so they don't carry any and hardly any footwear. Lovely SW vibe though. Some of those Bode shirts were incredible.

Congratulations to Mr. Kyle Foxworth for his promotion to Standard & Strange Management! I recall seeing Kyle on an older Red Wing video with Nick and CJ Cook. A trip to New York to try on a few pairs of boots highlighted on that Boot Wall would be well worth a trip.

It is weird seeing these boots that are hand made, but not specifically for a singular person sell for so much money. I get it you have to take into account import fees, man hours, store profit margins and more but they're more or less selling a mythos based on a brand name for 1200 to almost 2000 dollars. Those Lofgrens and Clinch boots are nice, but I can't look past the law of diminishing returns.
@partybees88562 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean. It seems like for some people, the difference between a $300 boot and a $1000+ boot is negligible. I wish that was the case for me lol
@Stridewise2 жыл бұрын
There are differences between $1500 boots and $500 boots, they just might be insignificant to some guys. Like what I like about this space is that cost usually isn't to do with a name, it's because of measurable differences like hand welting and material sourcing and stuff. But that isn't me insisting everyone should pay this much, rather that there are justifications to do so. Kinda like how any watch tells the time but the pricier ones are harder to make with rarer components etc

I've searched and searched and there's no store like it in L.A. It's truly one of a kind. I suggest if you like various boots carried by S&S just search each boot individually, sometimes on their websites it'll have a Where to Buy or Stockists section and you can sometimes find local vendors in your area that way. I've done that a lot with various niche denim brands.

It's hard because I don't think anyone can inherit my boots unless they inherit my feet. However, I love the idea that someone gets put that much work into creating footwear!
@Stridewise2 жыл бұрын
Yes guys who say their sons will inherit their boots are really assuming the best haha but I do like that boots can be sold when you don't wear them anymore. I just put two on eBay today!

Yeah that’s true. I can sort of wear some of my Granddads old boots and shoes. His feet are a half to one size longer, but apparently a similar enough shape/footbed. It’s possible since your kid could statistically/genetically have similar shaped feet as long as they’re the right size. My oldest son’s feet are a clone of mine just don’t know what his adult size will be. My youngest sons feet are much more like my wife’s wide Fred Flintstone feet.

I have never purchased anything from S&S but love their selection and ethos* so much that I check out every drop anyway. My wallet is very glad that brands like Clinch and RDT will never fit my big dumb feet. (Although, RDT does make some really cool boots and shoes that are a bit more affordable than the ones shown in this vid, like the Coupen shoes which are under $600 with the weak yen). *Though I wish they'd dropped Lofgren during the whole uproar over his unsavoury comments about non-Japanese makers. He hides behind a devotion to ethically sourced materials and ethically made boots and uses that to excuse a lot of really nasty comments about work done in countries he doesn't approve of and comes across as very racist, frankly. Also, he doesn't make anything himself and charges Clinch money for much more run-of-the-mill mass-produced GYW footwear that's made under his label on contract in other factories. I was slightly baffled by S&S sticking with him after that debacle.
