Nym - Rachel Errede's SVA Thesis 2012

Thank you to everyone for their support throughout this process!!
My Thesis film that was made during my final year at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, NY; completed in 2012 with the help of a lot of good people.
I used Photoshop to animate, ink, and color, then I used After Effects to put my frames and sound (SFX and music) together for the final project.

This is so amazing and true. I found a baby bird on the ground and everyone told me to leave it there for dead. I took it home anyways and it lived for about 3 more days. The bird died overnight. I buried him in my backyard next to one of our bird baths. I hope he can enjoy it for the rest of his afterlife, and I know that he at least didn't die alone on the cold ground of my school courtyard, but in the warmth of a cloth nest I made for him at home. This is not the first animal this has happened to me with either, no matter how small an animal is, it's always a tragedy to see them go.

While your intentions were good, in the future DO NOT do that. It's likely it had just fallen from it's nest. When this happens the parents still feed and care for the baby. If it doesn't have feathers, put it back in the nest if possible. If it is feathered, it is a fledgling and should be left alone. I hate to break it to you, but the bird might've lived if you hadn't messed with it. Also, in North America, handling or bring birds home is illegal without the proper specifications.

This made me so teary eyed. Not only was the story so beautiful (reminded me of my dog), but the art was as well. I hope to be as talented as animation as you someday. Definitely one of my favorite animated shorts I've seen!

But everything alive dies eventually and will be forgotten. However, they die and leave a flowering tree behind them. Making the tree a beautiful mark indicating their existence.

It's difficult for me not to put myself in this girl's shoes too much... I had a kitty who died at my bedside once. Woke up in the morning, and, well... there's nothing you can do to erase the terror of seeing a still chest, or knowing when you pet their cold fur that they're gone, or the paranoia that afterward comes every time any of your other pets are sleeping so peacefully it's like they aren't even breathing.

Flick Wise true. I had a pet rat that had cancer and heart failure and I had to end his suffering. After the vet injected him I could see the glare in his eyes dissapear and his eyes went to a milky white. I've seen it in humans before so I knew he was gone before checking his breathing. Another rat that had just died I simply refused to let go and carried her around the house crying for an hour, while the vet and my mom watched. They had to force me to let her go. It had been the second one in two weeks I had to watch dieing, it was just too much. Rats sometimes get sick and deteriorate verry fast, once they pass the magical age of 1.5 to 2 years. ...

This reminds me of when i was nurturing a baby dove because the mother left it for dead. His name was ac and i cared for him for 3 months. He eventually got sick and died in the middle of the night. When i woke up for school the next morning his cage and blankets were gone and i assumed my dad moved him to a warmer spot, but when i arrived back home that day my dad broke the news to me and we all burried him in a shoe box in the backyard. I still cry at the memory of him to this day.

Story: Two creatures run away from a horrible creature and then suddenly when the creature catches up with them, the little blue creature falls off the branch and breaks it's gem. Then a girl finds the creature and scares off the horrible monster. It takes care of it until it dies. After it dies, it's friend appears and makes a tree grow, then when it is fully grown, a branch grows near the girl and her creature's cracked gem falls off the flower from the back of it's head. The girl treasures it and will always remember her creature. Fin. AND THAT'S THE STORY!

This reminds of of when me and my family were out camping and someone said they saw something in the water. It was a bird that was trying to stay above the water. So I walked into the water and rescued it. Unfortunately I think some water already got into its lungs because it died a few minutes later :(

It was sad. And truth. Before of three years my dog has... Fall asleep forever. Present day her grave of full or yellow flowers, like her leather colour. I miss her so much before of one year i take a flower and this isn't dead yet. Ik she will be forever near to me and i will never forget her!
