My mom was in the hospital in January 2020 for almost a month. At first, I could visit with no issues. Each day that passed, more and more signs were being posted like “have you traveled in China in the past month?” And a list of symptoms “shortness of breath, fever, etc” to notify the hospital immediately if you have. My mom was released before COVID arrived in the US. The next month, my mom had COVID. And back in the hospital. It was night and day with how the hospital ran. I couldn’t visit her. I had to bag up everything she needed and call to have staff pick it up. And this was before anyone was wearing face masks. She was released 3 days later. Her Doctor told her to wait outside for me to arrive and don’t come back in unless absolutely necessary. This Doctor died of COVID a month later. He saved a lot of lives. And in return, his life was taken

Well he didn't do his job correctly. Spreading rumors without any evidence is reckless and irresponsible. Dr. Li should have went through the proper procedures and notified the proper authorities, it shouldn't have gone online prior to this happening. What if Wuhan's economy ground to a halt, or society panicks all because of some virus that didn't actually spread from human to human? That said, he was rightfully a national hero and is on the CCP's plaque of national heroes in the fight against covid.

I spent the first two years of the pandemic making house calls. I had just finished seeing a patient on a cold February day when I learned about Dr. Li's death. I was gutted. I still remember that moment like it was yesterday. Dr. Li is one of the hundreds of thousands of healthcare workers whose lives were lost thanks to inept governments and hospitals that value profit over people. He is an inspiration; I only wish he didn't suffer and die on his way to becoming one.

These two comments under the original comment are disparaging and misleading. This is a medical profession who spoke out about a deadly virus that a totalitarian and communist government tried to keep under raps from the intentional community. COVID continues to affect our quality of life, the economy and overall general global health even two years after it began. To undervalue the importance of Dr. Li’s discovery and reporting of COVID in the first few months is dangerous and reckless.

As a disabled chronic pain patient in the US I can honestly say the same thing since 2016. The isolation started for me at that time. Anytime I ask for help I am told there is nothing. That isn’t true. When I would ask for help I would be threatened. Ultimately it was go home and shut up or we make you hurt more and call you mental… you probably get where this kept going. Just save your first world always about me narrative for the next video. Some doctors in China are paid around $500- $800 a month with average monthly salary of doctors around $1094/m while the housing and food are not cheaper than the US. Healthcare worker can only make $800-900 in the first grade cities where the housing is as expensive as New York. The US sucks as the US being such a rich country but have the worst welfare in the developed world, however, not every topic is all about the USA.

I remember the night when Dr Li died. People were angry and asked for free speech on social media in China. That was the only moment I heard of this appeal in China. But soon, the Chinese government gained people's support when Covid hit other countries worldwide. The more people worldwide died, the more the Chinese government felt happy. Ultimately, it made me realise that the Chinese government doesn't care about people's life. All they care about is how to maintain their rule. And make Chinese people support them. What an evil government.

This is not censored in China, China belatedly exonerated him and posthumously awarded him the May Fourth Medal. He is well known and respected in China. However, he was not a whistleblower in a traditional sense. Here's what happened. On the morning of December 30th 2019, the Wuhan CDC emailed a notice to medical workers in Wuhan warning them to watch out for a new respiratory illness, a disease we now know as COVID-19, but was at the time the nature and cause of the disease was not fully understood. There was speculation, worry, that it was SARS (a far more deadly illness, fatality rate 8%, last seen in 2004). Dr Li (an ophthalmologist working at the Central Hospital of Wuhan) saw the Wuhan CDC notice, and at around the same time he received a medical chart of a patient treated for COVID-19, that chart mistakenly diagnosed the patient as having SARS. Alarmed, Dr Li sent a message to his friends on a private WeChat group (friends he met in medical school). He incorrectly told them SARS was back, his hospital had treated 7 "SARS" patients, he also asked them to keep the information secret. He forwarded documents to the WeChat group 1. The public Wuhan CDC notice warning Drs to watch out for a new respiratory illness, 2. A photo of a patent's medical chart that misdiagnosed the patent with SARS (Dr Li circled the word "SARS" in red pen). 3. A video showing the CT scan of the patent's lungs. So he mistakenly told a few friends that SARS was back and told them to keep it a secret, nevertheless people spread his warning. His error made people pay attention to the Wuhan CDC warning, but it was more by accident rather than whistleblower revealing a secret. Also, a few hours later Dr Li corrected himself, told his friends that the patents did not have SARS, it was a different coronavirus, but it was too late, the panic had started.

This was when the Trumpie “administration” was in full denial that there was any problem, at all. I began shouting online, at the top of my lungs. 1,086,675 official COVID fatalities later (four times the global mortality rate!), I haven’t really stopped shouting, since - Omicron is mutating at astonishing speed, and emerging Long-COVID data have me seriously alarmed. Like the concomitant disease of the last Great Pandemic o century ago (Encephalitis Lethargica), the individual and social costs of Long-COVID threaten to be enormous, and may burden us for the rest of this century.

Dr Li Wenliang, since you left, it took me some time to see, what kind of lies and what a facade that we Chinese people were living in. The last almost 3 years, what happened to our Chinese society has been beyond any of our expectations for the worst. Maybe nothing has really changed for the government, maybe the pandemic simply revealed what our government really is to the ignorant majority of us. Now I have been abroad for the longest time in my life, I do not even dare to thinking about going back to school breaks. It's scary. The nightmares I've had, about being in forced lockdown, about doing mandatory covid tests on a daily basis, about fences and walls, about police arresting my family because I chose to speak out... How pathetic it is that I only get to see the last days of yours from a foreign media that Chinese people could not access to. But at the same time, I thank you people like you and Dr B. I want to live like you and speak about truths until the day I die. RIP Dr Li Wen Liang🕯

It's things like this that make us a species seem hopeless at times. Those with power just care about saving face, reputation, and most importantly their grip over people.. Not caring if it costs the lives of others.

Great, now do one about Trump and how his mishandling led to millions dying. Show people that there's really freedom of the press in America.

They've already did that. Also, that would hardly constitute challenging authority. The current power base is Biden, and NYT is politically aligned with him. Thus, shouldn't you be asking them to do a visual investigation on the Biden administration's handling of the Covid-19 pandemic? Wouldn't that prove that they are free and impartial?

Spreading rumors without any evidence is reckless and irresponsible. Dr. Li should have went through the proper procedures and notified the proper authorities, it shouldn't have gone online prior to this. What if Wuhan's economy ground to a halt all because of some virus that didn't actually spread from human to human?

I remember watching this happen slowly over the news that I was watching over before coming to Korea in 2020, worrying and trying to take care of the people traveling with me and not knowing if it was going to blow up or not. Then we got to Korea and all that China hate in the U.S. happened and family members had no idea that this had happened in China just a few months ago. No one knew, because no one cared to look if it wasn't happening in the U.S.. It was so.....heartbreaking and it ruined how I saw every person in my life. Apparently, I'm the only one in my family who cares about what is actually going on in a crisis. Can't trust anyone else to care enough to look and see. Can't trust people to even care what is true and what is not, let alone to tell the difference between the two. Scary, that they don't care if it is a lie, that people died just to get that information out there.

I'll try my take in explaining this if you would. IMO what the interviewee said was "medically speaking, it would be akin to saving a clinically pronounced dead body. And to have one's "dead" body used as a dirty political pawn for show, it's deeply insulting."

I got the vaccine and 2 booster shots and still got Covid 3 times, maybe my symptoms weren’t as bad as they could have been if I hadn’t gotten the vaccine. What’s interesting is each time I got Covid the symptoms grew less and less each time. By the 3rd time I had Covid I barely had any symptoms was comparable to a mild cold.
