Well done for taking some out, not like putting them back is legal but there's some dodgy fellas out there who release them unfortunately.

really great video, when catching koi carp in New Zealand (this may seem brutal and wasteful) but killing them and leaving the for the eels is actually doing the enviroment a big favour as koi carp are a huge pest

Hi. Can a 1/0 circle/recurve hook useable in freshwater fishing.or for trout/ perch fishing? Cheers
@BasicFishingNZ4 жыл бұрын
was gonna try that out as an experimentation but tbh for freshwater, using a J style hook is a better option mainly cause freshwater species are far more sensitive and you want to time your strike but it would b worth a shot especially if you want to catch and release them

Do you need a licence to freshwater fish or only need a licence for game fish only? I plan to take my son to fish in the Waikato river this weekend.
@BasicFishingNZ3 жыл бұрын
for sportfish yes but you must prove that you are using certain methods to target the fish. for example if i was to target eels, i would use a running rig and meat for bait so that if anyone asks like the rangers, they'll know you are after eels for example

Nice vid. All those coarse fish wouldn't be helping the trout population much. I used to catch a fair amount of trout in the upper Atiamuri Waikato, but now seems to be mainly rudd. With the weather getting warmer, I think I'll pull my kayak out soon.
@BasicFishingNZ5 жыл бұрын
thank you for watching. yea i've been finding more carp than trout at the waikato lately. not to mention the trout has proved to b elusive so far at the waikato too

@@BasicFishingNZ that's a real shame. I guess the carp are eating all the trouts food source. At least you're doing a bit to help the trout out. :)

@@banditoo7 Not really, Trout are technically carnivorous whilst Koi carp are primarily filter feeders, another reason why they are such a horrible pest.
@jjfisher33911 ай бұрын
you should definitley use corn kernels or chick peas for bait when u are carp fishing, works 2000 times faster then worms

the worm was also to attract trout as well, the carp was just a bycatch

I've eaten it a few times in various ways. Important thing is gut it and bleed it straightaway, otherwise it smells and tastes muddy. Curry is good because its quite a firm flesh, but marinated and steamed with ginger is quite nice too.
@WisdomWealthMotivation2 жыл бұрын
@@BasicFishingNZ @Raikyjin It really isn't. It is extremely oily and muddy, you should know they are filter feeders, feeding on the surface which makes them extremely muddy. good luck eating them.
