WE SHOULD BUILD THE DAMN BOATS IN NZ. And the Manawanui replacement. Establish a ship-building yard in Onehunga, import (if necessary) an experienced naval architect and train up a bunch of apprentices. Make NZ a renowned PRODUCER of ships, rather than a continued purchaser.

As I understand it, the South Island does not have anywhere that manufactures the flat-bottomed steel rails. These rails are too long to fit on a truck and require rail cars to transport them. I'm guessing that this will be among the first blowouts that Luxon's Govt has as they will need to build that infrastructure on the South Island if rail on the South Island is to be maintained.

KiwiRail arrogantly thought that the Govt would just keep coughing up more and more $$$ for the project. from 7$55 million to more than $3 billion ( plus ). KiwiRail should have asked for the additional $$ BEFORE they signed a contract for two mega ferries.

Those breakdowns lol..if you want secondhand,recondition the old ones for atleast 2 terms.. cant be that steep in the pocket surely.. maybe buy 1 new one.. It's the amount of concrete needed to raise the port which is the issue. Why not use some space filler akin to the blocks of polystyrene used under houses concrete slab foundations. The fillers could be mass produced mostly hollow. The concrete can still have rebar. Look at the inside of the humorous bone for proof and inspiration.
