Sorry for your loss, Broadbent. Hopefully you'll recover your things. As a side note, having lost a boat to the portal glitch myself, I can tell you exactly what happened to your first boat. When you travel through portals, it isn't instantaneous. It is more like mega-ultra fast travel from one portal to another...which means your body is still in the world, just moving so fast you can't see it. You can see the effect on the map when you portal. This means that if your boat is close to your portal, and between you and your next portal destination, you have a good chance of hitting your boat as you fast travel...which causes it to flip over and take massive damage. In essence, you run right into/through your boat on your way through. If you're quick, you can repair your boat, and use doors to flip it back. A better idea is to make sure your portal is a good distance from your boat, and not in your path to the other portal. Again, sorry for your losses today.

The surtling spawns in the swamps actually make some sense. For one, they're a renewable source of cores in the early game, and it means the only thing missing from the Swamp biome being a fire swamp are Rodents of Unusual Size.

the set back is real - you should take into account that if you're gonna "CHECK" something out - leave everything precious at home so that if you die (MOST LIKELY WILL 99.9999% of the time), you dont have to go back and retrieve things, you can go back with your OP gear knowing what to expect.

Another fun thing, is when the Vikings arrived in Iceland there was likely a world changing volcanic eruption that may have looked like the Ashland. Parts of Iceland are still covered in volcanic stone and ash.

***You can retrieve your stuff*** For those who have made the same mistake. So, I tested it out, and with dev commands, and god mode active you can retrieve your stuff. It is at the bottom of the waterfall along with your death stone. It doesn't float away into the void or fall indefinitely. To get the stuff back from on the ship. You need to fly (pess z in debugmode) to move around down there, and exit fly mode (press z again) to stay on the ship without being pushed away to collect your things from the cargo.

Tip: when it comes to wind direction you will be pushed in whatever direction the wind is pointing and even more so if you put full or half sails out when its side on. Use half sails when the wind is side on and rudder when its facing you. Ive sailed on the edge before on rudder to show people. Hope tgat helps

hey man a tip for your next sailings: if you don't want the wind to push you in that direction, reverse till you are rowing, I think you could've avoided falling off if the sail was up and not being pushed by the wind!!

Hey Broadbent... You can recover the nails at the bottom of the sea by crafting a ladder and jumping into the water. You'll sink a distance down depending on high you jump off the ladder.

Don't be mad losing your stuff. I joined a pvp server out of curiosity and it despawned all my armor and weapons I had with me. As vengeance I raided the main base I could find and just digged it away right to the basement and got about 400 iron, 300 copper, 10k stone, 5k wood, 4k gold and everything they ever had. That's the viking life my friend, sometimes you lose, sometimes you get it back.

Yesterday I lost 1 longboat and 5 smaller boats to recover my main set when a sea monster destroyed my long boat.After about 5 hrs I got my main set back and the items to build 2 small boats. I was so frustrated and angry...I think the boats should have more HP. Sorry you lost everything , that suxs hard...thankyou for showing us the edge of the map though. Great episode.

Watching you going straight to the edge of the world like that wearing your best gear and boarding your long boat while i knew already what lays behind the edge made me so anxious i was biting my fingers waiting for the disaster, but your series are fun to watch, don't worry, apart from the frostener you would have put away your current gear anyways after forging the next armor and weapon tier and the Lox cape provides frost resistance as well and goes so well with the new armor, here's a like for your loss.

The Norse God Tor rides the heavens in his cart drawn by two goats called Tanngnjost and Tanngrisne. So that's what you correctly spotted above. His goats may be slaughtered and eaten and brought back to life by placing their bones back in their skins. But one time a bone was crushed at a supper which made one of the goats limp on that leg. Tor's belt is called Megingjord.

In order to get stuff that sinks I build a ladder out to above it and then jump down. Your character will sink when he jumps and normally that's enough to get the items back.

When drowning, if deconnect the server and reconnect, your stamina is back to full so you can swim more and more and more. It could save some critical situation, if you see what i mean...

Thor has a Chariot (more likely a cart) pulled by two goats. Thin Teeth and Teeth Grinder (actual translation of the old norse). One of which is lame because while immortal (in that Thor can raise them with his hammer) they depend on their bone marrow and good condition of the bone. Thor fed a family one night by slaying his goats and cooking them (in the morning they resurrect) but even though they were told not to one of the family just had to eat some bone marrow. Leaving the Goat slightly lame. So he enslaved (indentured servitude) the kid and his sister to make amends. (the act as servents). I think that is the how the story goes... It's been a while. Fun fact when I was young I was told that Santa was based on the concept of Good God Thor who would bring things on Yule. I don't think there is any historical evidence for this as I've never found anything since... but your Santa comparison was fun

You can likely use the DEV Commands and recover your gear. If you must go to the edge of world go in step down armor like Leather that was it’s not big deal if it’s loss. And don’t take your best weapons either. Was fun to see what’s at the edge of world 🌎 though and thus I don’t have to take my character there.

Don't jump into the water. Especially if you're not sure you're going to make it to the other side. Jumping uses a fair chunk of your stamina before you even begin swimming.

I think surtlings spawn on swamp to give peoplecores in there and encourage them to smelt metal outsideof crypts I say this because not only do they give cores the metal itself is lighterwhen smelted So i think the idea is to have metal smelting in the swamp near the crytps and then transport it easier to thebase At least i took that hint that way and started smelting where i get the metal and it is much easier now

FYI, those lag spikes are not lag exactly, its the world saving. If you are hosting a server it saves periodically, causing a jump of lag like that. It's very frustrating when it happens in combat.
