Liam held it up high & said who flung it & nobody admitted it. He sat it down on the stage and they all walked off. Noel said goodnight and threw his guitar pick at us. @GM that is a genuinely confusing comment. I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Is this in reference to the band? Are you talking about the OP? who is MMM? Who is Martin Molloy?
Was there in Brisbane. Few gaps here in the story: we were outside the ‘planned’ hotel which was a diversion so we all scarpered up the road to the real hotel across the road from the park near my uni at the time in 1998 QUT. Band arrived in vans and I had all my vinyl signed with Liam chucking my pen across the road at the end after signing a leaf at the lobby. The band were well oiled. Noel went shopping in town early and the band drank at the bar with some of the local talent invited inside. I buggered off home and return the next morning enroute to university with TV cameras and a throng of media outside the entrance of the hotel. The headbutt. We asked someone what was going on and they said Liam was arrested and we said ‘yeah we were here last night’ then we ended up on the news… remember the train ride to the entertainment centre at Boondal for the show and getting chucked off the train by police cause we didn’t have train tickets and getting walked down to the head ticket office to buy them by a smug copper laughing, saying ‘he (Liam) isn’t showing up tonight’. Gig was a disaster: some idiot had a ‘La’s Rip-off’ sign and it was general chaos. You Am I were the support but you can’t blame liam, he’d been in the joint and court all day. Long the the 1990’s.

I became a You Am I fan from that day onwards. Even Noel and Liam said how brilliant they were as their support (especially the Japan gigs) and both still to this day are big fans - Liam's done a couple of radio interviews with Tim Rogers in recent years and Davey Lane (who joined You Am I in 2000) has been on an Oasis Fan Podcast as he's a huge fan of them as well. I was 17 when that Brisbane gig happened so perhaps my memory isn't as great as yours - I remember enjoying the gig but being disappointed that they only played 13 songs - it was over pretty quick. They more than made up for it 4 years later when they co-headlined the "Livid Festival" with Powderfinger, who were the biggest band in Australia at the time. Oasis played them off the park in their own backyard: they certainly readdressed the balance after that 1998 tour.

They were INSANE on drugs back then, here in America too! They finished the tour, but they were wildly inconsistent, too. They were playing mid-sized to full-sized arenas here. But they weren't selling out some roughly 6,000 seat arenas, & that was because the word was out that sometimes, Liam couldn't even do the encore, or sing certain songs, like Fade In/Out, or Some Might Say, but then they sold out the legendary Rosemont Horizon in Chicago, 18,500 ppl, & played really well that night, w/Noel playing a now-legendary performance of Slide Away, too... Only thing wrong with Be Here Now is that Urban Hymns and OK Computer came out the same year. Oasis veered bigger, louder, more raucous, and those other two records from Verve and Radiohead felt more introspective and intellectual, complete statements as almost concept albums, so the Oasis critical backlash in America slowly began. Blur's Beetlebum and Song 2 hit college radio and MTV in early ''97 also and felt edgier and more intense than Oasis, too. So there was a lot of British talent capturing young American's attention then. That coupled with Liam's continued antics (missing the MTV Unplugged show and yelling at the press) kept Oasis from getting as huge in America as they could have after Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova were played absolutely endlessly in 1995 and 1996.

My mum then went up to him, and apparently he was off his mind, like couldn't say anything coherent and face was puffed and red. My best memories of the QWEC (Wellington) gig was after the Liam/sound bullshit Noel came back on alone and played... that was what made me a (proper) Oasis fan. And here we are 20-odd years later and I'm still hooked! and yes - the sound was pretty shit... the second worst sounding gig I've been to - behind Jamiroquai in Brisbane several years later, that was a whole new level!

Great video and brilliant research, well done! That's me subscribed. Amazing how off the rails they were in that time period, really can't imagine any other band today behaving like that. I mean a lot of it was horrible behaviour but what drama.

I saw them in Melbourne on this tour. As a huge fan, it was a strange time. Oasis were massive in early 96 here, yet they cancelled two straight tours which pissed a lot of people off, and Be Here Now was an opportunity to slag them off. When they arrived they had targets on their backs, the circus ensued and the public perception viewed them as wankers and seem as uncool. They toured 4 years later and played much smaller gigs which was great for fans such as me, yet the reputation lingered. Most people here have forgotten about the circus, Liam will be playing large venues here later this year and I doubt many are aware of the circus of 1998. I managed to meet the band in 2002 and they were nothing but great with the fans.

I remember being in highschool in 95/96. They were huge and everyone loved them. Fast forward a year and it was The cool thing to hate them. I think it's that stupid tall poppy syndrome shit Australian's like to put down as well.
@HearszAM2 жыл бұрын
They were terrific in 2002. One of Noel's roadies told him after they came off stage in Brisbane (Livid Festival) that it was in his Top 10 Oasis sets that they'd ever done. Also, three different bands on the same festival bill - Sum41, And You Will No Us By The Trail of the Dead and Unwritten Law all had Oasis as their best band at the festival. They were in Finsbury form across that tour, not so much in 2005 when they returned (still good though).

The show in Lille, France is here on KZbin, before Barcelona. Liam's drunken antics are very entertaining during that one. It must have been a very special night, to see Oasis in a relatively small venue for them at that point (7000 capacity). Quite intimate. Obviously, British fans knew about it and travelled to the north of France for the gig. I wish I could have been there.

During be here now, noel clearly became more complacent with the madness and, if were being honest, unprofessionalism that oasis were pushing. Look at the ferry ride in 94, look at the farm studio in 95, look at the mtv appearance in 96. Noel was always against moments when the band took things too far. Although he was just as crazy and had his chaotic moments as much as the other members, Noel was the most professional of the group but the music suffered when he turned a more blind eye
@trancebruh32312 жыл бұрын
Noel was even more coked up than Liam in the 1997 Evening Session interview. He was not only complacent with the madness but embracing it.

11:59 - I love how Noel shows off his American Express Platinum card, as if that was some amazing achievement in the 90's. After the 80's economic boom, anyone with a credit score of 760+, who made 75K+ in the 90's, who paid off their card in full each month could get that card, and yes, could charge high priced merch on it. - I bet his accountants blew major smoke up his ass, telling him how "rare" that card was, knowing Noel had no idea how common that card actually was.. LOL

Earls court the 3 nights liams voice was amazing. The Aberdeen show they always take about that can’t be found anywhere. Dublin 3 nights Noel does two alone. The budoken. They were knackered come 98 his voice was shot to pieces from the partying. Noel shortened the sets to help him and brought the acoustic part back after Dublin went mental for it
