Happy New Year you to you family. I found this yesterday at the local Family Store. A good score I think. Looking forward to giving it a go.

This is one of my "hidden gems" in my collection. What games do you love to play that are in need of a lot more eyeballs on them? Let me know. If you are looking for a copy, check out the publisher at www.undinestudios.com/

You might find lots of hidden gems in the Game Crafter platform. If you ever found yourself curious and open-minded enough to explore some less familiar (indie) areas, You might discover a hidden oasis of inspiration, by checking out the following: 1. Jason Glover's (Grey Gnome Games) creations: Gate, Desolate, Iron Helm, Banners, Tin Helm. All of them are smart little designs (...that some might describe as 'mini masterpieces'). 2. Rogue Dungeon 3. Nathan Meunier's creations (Doom Machine, Mindburners..) 4. The Brambles And outside the Game Crafter, 5. Paupers' Ladder and its expansions. To be honest, I'm pretty sure that none of them is a consensus (maybe except Grey Gnome's), And they probably (as mentioned before) required those who reach toward them a "flexible" approach, But while I didn't take your desire to explore new areas for granted - And decided to invest my time to give you the most detailed and enriching response I possibly could - I can only wish now that you will have the `drive` to actually do something about it 😌 Good luck Sir. I hope it helps.

@@shineLouisShine The game crafter is an impractical place to buy games from in New Zealand due to how stuffed the US postal service is. Rogue dungeon for example is $40 NZD shipping and estimated delivery time of 45 days

I found two copies of this online in my country. One sold today, so I just pulled the pin. It's so hard to find, and you recommended this on the review of Villagers. So I went for it.

Ah, so that's how you pronounce 'Oaxaca'!

I even doubled checked with the designer to make sure this time.

New Zealand is one market where Oaxaca is not too hard to find. We distribute it here and you can find a retailer at: www.cheekyparrotgames.com/retailers/

Ended up getting one on a reasonable deal. Look forward to giving it a go. I don't think we have a decent engine builder. I hope this will be it!

You killed it with "Roll For The Galaxy" and "Tiny Epic Whatever". I despise those games.
@3MBG5 жыл бұрын
Perfect. I'm not actually trying to sell games. More give people enough information to make a quick decision. If you hated roll, you probably won't like this that much. So, mission successful :)

@@3MBG This one looks cute, though. Possibly a little too much going on, but a nice theme.

Its cheap too. Good thing about small box games is they usually dont cost much and if you don't like them, you can resell them and only be down 5-10 bucks. Not so easy to do with bigger games.

Damn! You are so bad for my budget. I want to be every game you review. Seriously though, this game has been on my must buy list for quite some time now for so many reasons: A female co-designer who is a kind a lovely person; a game where crafts carried out by women are an integral part of the game and not a plastered on theme (I'm looking at you Patchwork and KnitWit); respectful appreciation and celebration of South American culture rather than the usual cultural appropriation; it's about South America and it's not about colonisation or raiding temples; it's not a culturally Euro-centric design either (Days of Wonder and The River, no white people on the box, really?), it's can be played solo so I can play it on my own but it's light enough to play with my game-playing kids when they are here; it's absolutely bloody gorgeous! Really, it's a very strong example of how to do board game themes correctly. I am not saying of course that all games have to have identical themes to this but it isn't that difficult to avoid the furore that Santa Maria caused, for example. It's all downhill budget-wise for me until after Christmas but I will definitely be looking out for it then.

The theme integration is a huge thing for me. Its simple, tasteful and elegant and you're right. It gets out of a lot of the terrible traps European board game designers fall into. Sarah seems like a very lovely person as well, and the world needs more of them.

Thank you! 02:20 - "Very Deep and engaging"? Are you sure about this statement? Isn't this game actually lacking a depth as well as arc? (...or was it just an act of encouraging to a small publisher in the sacrifice of some honesty?)
@3MBG2 жыл бұрын
I'm confused. No Oaxaca has a bucket load of decision space and depth to it for its size and footprint. I assume you think that statement means something other than what is intended. I do not make dishonest comments to save the feelings of publishers. Especially in this case as i really like this game.

@@3MBG I understand. I guess I was just disappointed, despite the fact that it is a small game, by the variety and uninspiring special abilities (of the cards and dice) in this game. The art is AMAZING and almost justified this game by its own but.... Unfortunately..... Only almost.
