I thought it was Progesterone that made the muscle relaxed?
@MamaDoctorJones3 жыл бұрын
Lily!! You're correct - I just realized I misspoke - thank you for pointing this out. Though the complete picture of GERD in pregnancy is multifactorial, PROGESTERONE is the main smooth muscle relaxant and most likely major contributor here. Pinning this for clarification!

Then the second appointment we just had told me “SCH are not a big deal” , how I didn’t call and I did and corrected her that I was on hold because it was 9:30 pm, and then tried to pass the buck to the ER doctor not calling the on call OB. I'm sure that they did imaging and an EKG. They don't usually just send you home with nothing. I have GERD, asthma, and panic attacks, so I get bad chest pain. Sometimes it's bad enough to go to the ER. I've never been sent home without at least an EKG and imaging. It did take 3 trips to finally get the asthma diagnosed though (despite having O2 being super low and being put on supplemental oxygen), so hospitals definitely aren't perfect, especially when you have mental health issues and get dismissed, but they usually take chest pain pretty seriously even if it turns out to be heartburn. Where I live, it's mandatory to do those tests at the very least

Funny story about bald babies: my mom didn’t know babies could be born with hair since I was the only baby she had and her and her siblings were all born bald so when my sister was born after 48 hours of labor, my mom totally freaked out at the fact that she had a full head of black hair. It’s so interesting to watch these weird pregnancies, knowing that I had a weird one too. I had a mini stroke at 34 weeks pregnant, which in itself was terrifying. Even more terrifying is that they couldn’t find a reason, just “it could happen when you’re pregnant”. Definitely a scary moment!

I feel like people who didn't have positive outcomes would likely not be able to or willing to share their stories on such a show. @kpl-CA2 жыл бұрын
We're one of those families. I've had *two* stillbirths, and two surviving preemies - including a twin pregnancy with only one survivor. I belong to a lot of loss and complication communities - these issues aren't *that* rare, and losses are fairly *common* - especially early MC, but TV shows do NOT want to show those common negative outcomes. They want fantasies, or drama. TV shows LIE... or over emphasize minor issues and details, but ignore the important parts. If your only knowledge of puberty, fertility, sex, conception, development, pregnancy, pregnancy tests, complications, losses, antenatal care, labour, delivery, NICU, breastfeeding and recovery is *TV shows*... there's going to be some HUGE, harmful, misleading gaps ☹️ Most people do not want to know about complications or tragedies, but they still NEED to, so they are prepared themselves, can support others... and they can be grateful for happy outcomes. It's COMMON for people who had complications to be minimized, criticized, silenced, mocked and especially BLAMED by "friends" and "family" for their tragedy. Which is HORRIBLE. Many have invitations for family events like showers, christenings & weddings withdrawn. They end up excluded, as if their tragedy is "infectious". You hear a lot of "nobody wants to hear that", rather than simply support or listening. Even supposed "support" resources erase or refuse to "allow" losses and tragedies. Our church, for example, REFUSED to offer any support, no funeral, no burial, no prayers, no memorials, nothing. We and my surviving children were not offered somewhere to go to remember them. It's very hurtful. If you ARE mourning a loss, find a loss support group online. There are support resources, even if you are in a hospital. Talk to the nurses, they can be amazing advocates.

I was aware of being pregnant rather early, and my children were active enough before birth that my husband didn’t like me to cuddle behind him as we went to sleep, because they were kicking him in the back. However, A relative by marriage learned she was pregnant about the same time I learned I was pregnant with my oldest. My understanding is that she had had irregular periods from the get-go. Also, she had been (reportedly) sexually active since about age 13. (Primarily? Exclusively? With her now husband) She had been told that she would probably never conceive naturally. As I said, we found out about our pregnancies at about the same time, yet her baby was born in September, and mine was born 12 weeks later in December. So she would have been roughly 20 weeks when she found out. I know of another woman (the niece of a friend) who had been told by doctors that even with assistive reproductive technology, she and her husband would likely never have a biological child, as both had fertility issues. It wasn’t until after she had lost both her mother and her husband to cancer, that she confided in my friend (an RN) that she thought she had cancer too. Feeling bloated. Food aversions. Couldn’t eat much at any one time. Shortness of breath. Couldn’t get comfortable etc. Turns out, she was about 8 months pregnant when she confided in my friend. I can’t remember if the baby was born on his mother’s birthday or his father’s 🤔🤷🏼

I had a really hard time getting pregnant due to polycystic ovary disease that necessitated removal of one ovary. We had our son and were so happy. When he was about 16 months old I started having a lot of reflux issues. I hadn’t had a period while I was breast feeding and then once he wanted at about 1 yr I still didn’t have periods. We didn’t use any birth control because we wanted more kids but I didn’t really think about the reflux in terms of pregnancy. I went to the doc and he said that he thought I should have an upper GI series since this might be gallstones or something. As I sat there listening to him I thought, you know, I might be pregnant. I should check that before I do anything else. So I went home, took a pregnancy test and yes, I was pregnant. I made an appointment with my OBGYN and then called my neighbor over to have some tea and tell her the good news. As I was making the tea a sudden gush of blood poured out of me onto the floor. I called my friend and she rushed in. You’re having a miscarriage she said. I’ll call your husband to take you to the hospital and watch your baby. She couldn’t take me because she had kids about to come home from school. My husband came from work and took me to the clinic where my OBGYN met me and they did an ultrasound. 17:30 He told me that yes, this was a miscarriage and the fetus hadn’t been expelled but had no heartbeat. They had to do a D&C before things turned septic and also to stop the bleeding. What would have happened to me if I were in Texas or Florida or some other crazy state where abortion is illegal?

@@teresahowick5197 I'm getting there. Luckily I was adamant on getting an early ultrasound. My OB told me I had to wait until 11 weeks, but something in me was saying something wasn't right so I went to a center.

@@Natasha-yq6df Thank you I appreciate it. I think it’s just something that needs to be talked about a little more. So many women I’ve spoken to have said they didn’t even know that it could happen.

I had my daughter at 27 weeks and she weighed 1lb and 13oz with no complications. My water broke early. She’s a 23 year old young lady, beautiful inside and out.

Wow, that’s rare. And freaking terrifying. I was almost 5 when my sister was born and she, like my older brother and I, was premature. My brother was six weeks, I was two months, and Cookie…. She was four months and we all thought she wouldn’t live. She could have been stillborn, born blind, or deaf, but modern medicine saved her life and her senses. She may have a mild development issue, but she’s alive and well and the cutest, happiest little girl. I love her so much ♥️♥️♥️

My niece Kelsie was born at 24 weeks. She fit in the palm of my brother in law's hand. Her whole body was covered in soft fuzzy hair. She weighed two pounds but went down below that for a few days after she was born. The doctors told my sister she would most likely have developmental delays both physically and mentally. Kelsie played sports all through school, basketball, softball, she got straight A's and she just graduated from OSU with a degree in psychology.

I feel for the partner, I hate the sight and smell of blood, be it my own or others. Just the thought gives me the shivers. not something I'd like to ever have to worry about. And of course people would judge him for that, much like everything an individual doesn't understand as though it impacts them personally in any way.

I don't know when this episode was filmed but in 2020, smell aversion is also a good sign you probably don't have Covid!

Have you read the book This is Going to Hurt? it's the diaries of a former obstetrics doctor when he was a junior doctors until he left medicine. They're very funny and interesting but the case that lead to him leaving is absolutely heart breaking. I won't spoil it but I think elements could be used for teaching. The book is Aldo being adapted to a show so maybe you could react to it?

During some of those baby pics triggered a story about my family when I was born. I was a 90s baby when those elastic headbands were all the rage. My mom wanted to put them on me to match my outfits for me so bad, but my dad banned them because he said they'd dent my head. When he left home one day, she secretly put one on me, planning on taking it off before he got home. There was a little impression on my head where it was. I was fine of course, but she was sobbing when he got home because she thought she ruined my head lol
