Hi this that made me think...As someone who struggles with weight in the opposite way- I've been underweight for most of my life- I've RARELY been told a problem might be because of my weight. BUT IT QUITE OFTEN WAS and I wished doctor would have told me. I'm struggling to put on weight and/or hold my weight at a 'normal' bmi, so my qeight is always going up a few kilos and then down again. And I've had reoccuring symptoms and little health problems since forever. And then at 24 yrs old I realized I would always put on a little weight and for example my stomach pain would dissappear. Then when I lost the weight again the symptoms came creeping back slowly and getting more, the longer I was at a lower weight. And every time doctors would test for everything and find nothing and either didn't believe me or say it was a mental problem. But they knew all along how much I weighed so why not say something?? It took me ages to connect these two things. Neither too much nor too little weight is healthy and Doctors should always evaluate the symptoms while also looking at the patient.

My labor only got more painful than my menstrual cramps at transition. Before that, my nurse kept offering me pain medication, and I didn't need, nor want it; I did take one dose of IV Stadol and promptly fell asleep. I had to be awakened to push. I've always said that God let me have an easy labor, because pregnancy was awful for me. My morning sickness was so bad and prolonged that I only gained 4 pounds, and my son was 5# 10oz, even though he was only 35 weeks gestation.

Wow, as a premature identical twin, this video hit home hard. My sister and I were born 3 months early, we barely weighed 3.5 lbs together. Our mom was only 15 at the time and she was only expecting one baby. Her neighbor was a nurse and noticed she didn't look good and told her to go to urgent care. She was suffering from blood toxicity, and when they did an ultrasound, I rolled out from behind my sister, completely surprising everyone. When I rolled, the ultrasound tech noticed that our umbilical cords were wrapped around each other's necks and tied in a knot, so she had to undergo an emergency c-section. The whole process from arriving at the hospital until we were delivered was like 5 hours. My mom was in shock, we were so tiny an premature we had to be immediately put into incubators. I always feel bad for my mom, she didn't get to hold us until we were almost 3 months old when we were finally released from the incubators. We all three almost died, if my mom hadn't have gone into the hospital when she did, she may not have survived the next 24 hours because of the blood toxicity. My twin sis had a 1% chance of surviving, I had a 0.5% chance. She was "Baby A" and I was "Baby B" for about 2 and a half weeks, my mom was afraid to name us, get attached, then lose us suddenly. Episodes like these remind me just how lucky I am to be alive. Thank science for modern medicine, those incubators and the medical staff were absolute life savers. Both my twin and I are doing okay, we have some health issues, but it could be 100 times worse. My twin is currently pregnant with a little girl, I'm super excited for her. She's always wanted to be a mom, and I hope she has a smooth delivery, unlike our own. Thanks for the video and the trip down memory lane MDJ, I appreciate it!

Update for y'all: my sister is currently hospitalized, she has severe pre-eclampsia and are struggling to keep her blood pressure at normal levels for more than a few hours. She is scheduled for a c-section on Friday the 25th, so she'll be 34 weeks at that time, a little premature but not too bad. Not nearly as premature as we were. The whole family is nervous because she can't have an epidural due to spine anatomy (our mom had the same issue), so we're uncertain if she's going to be conscious at all during the c-section or not. Thanks to covid, even if she's conscious, they'll only allow one visitor at a time, so we'll all be sequestered to the waiting room. The only upside is that her daughter will have the same birthday as her great-grandmother, which I think is pretty cool. Our grandma was a twin that lost her sister in a car accident as a teenager, she's always adored us since we were babies. I think it's really special that my twin sister's baby will have the same birthday as her. I'll post an update once it gets closer to Friday. We're all biting our nails waiting, not much can be done right now.

He should have done a pregnancy test, which is a very simple investigation to undertake and should have been done to cover his bases, even if he thought it was unlikely. He was not thorough enough. Your weight does have an effect on your overall health but even skinny people can have the same issues. Skinny people can have diabetes and heart issues. I know people that got blood clots and are in much worse condition now because the doctor immediately came to the conclusion it was because of weight where if they had actually done their job the person wouldn’t have such complications now. I've noticed that on a lot of these "i didn't know i was pregnant" things, it's usually people who are overweight, and were often overlooked by their doctors. Which, really sucks. Especially considering a lot of them DID go to the doctors, and did ask about pregnancy chances and were told they're just overweight and that's probably it without looking into it any further. I've actually had a lot of similar experiences (not with pregnancy) where i had a question, or a medical concern and instead of answering or treating it seriously the response was "it's because you're overweight"

To answer your question at 7:00, in EMS we have extreme limits to our diagnostic tools. As such, we are taught to treat every female of child bearing age with chief complaint of abdominal pain as a potential complication of pregnancy on top of anything else we suspect. Also on another sidenote, even though the pt was young, an AMI often presents with what many consider odd signs, especially in women, those with diabetes, and those who are overweight. In relaying these signs and symptoms to the recieving hospital during transport, it's no wonder the hospital decided to have an OB Dr on standby :)

Having “morning” sickness is good - provided you can stay nourished and hydrated it is protective for the foetus. Protects against substances (eg coffee, eggs with bacteria, etc) which are minimally toxic to adults, but more harmful to something tiny and developing.
@harringt1003 жыл бұрын
@@janmeyer3129 Yeah, that's really no comfort to anyone feeling sick all day, vomiting frequently, and struggling to find something they can stomach. Pregnancy is different for different people. Some have very few symptoms. In some of these shows, the women are having symptoms but they attribute it to something else. (Frequent viruses, stress, other medical conditions, etc.) If you really don't expect to or subconsciously fear being pregnant you can often find other explanations for things.

I’ve never been in labor, so I am going off of what my mom said. Shortly after my 23rd birthday I started to have stomach problems, after trial and error my Dr and I decided I had become lactose intolerant. Over the next year I began to lose weight, and having bad stomach pains. I attributed this to poor diet, and drinking too much, so I would switch to beer instead of whiskey when my stomach started acting up (I know, I was a dumb kid lol), I went back and forth with this every 2-3 months. One night the pain got so bad I had my boyfriend (now husband) take me to the ER. I had a fever of 101.3, terrible heart burn, and unbearable rolling cramps/pain. I was given a GI cocktail and told to take Tylenol. I called my mom the next morning to let her know, and my dad stoped by my place on his way home from work. I was in a ball crying, he called my mom and they took me back to the ER. Same DR was there, and I think he almost shit himself when my daddy “pulled him aside”. My BP was very low, stomach distended, & the rolling pains had gotten unbearable, I could not walk. What I call rolling pains is when I can feel one coming, it would get to a 1000 on the pain sale, then subside, they were occurring ever 10-15 min. They gave me more dilated “than a 250lb male” would get, I was 110lbs. From the bruising that happened with the quickly failed IV, I believe it was not placed correctly, and she went through the other side of my vain, so the pain meds were not instantly entering my body. Finally the pain subsided, and I was released. This kept up for 3 months, happening every 1-3 weeks, I found my GI Dr when he was making rounds in the hospital. I went through sooo many tests, so many ER visits, and admitted multiple times. My mom can only describe it as “it was like watching you go through labor”. Finally I agreed happily to exploratory surgery, where they ended up removing 8in of my colon that was 98% restricted from scar tissue, and I was diagnosed with Crohn’s. My boyfriend had been accused of poisoning me, I was labeled a drug seeker (thankfully early ruled out), and even put under psychiatric watch at one hospital stay. It is terrifying to be in that much pain, I honestly thought I was dying a few times, and not having any answers as to what was causing the pain except BS that was easily ruled out. I had very little trust in the care I received in the ER, I tried everything possible before giving up & going in. The care was great once I was admitted, and out of the ER.

Really though! I had surgery at the end of 2017 & the steroids they put me on made me gain 40 lbs in 1 month. Someone put "excessive hunger" in my chart so drs kept asking me about it until I switched primarys and explained the situation to her that I was only hungry while I was ON the steroids. She took it off & Ive only had 1 Dr bring it back up (but to be fair its kind of that ones job). Even my first physical therapist treated me so poorly i only saw him twice & both times i left in tears..

I was just over a month along when i started not feeling right. My husband and I had been trying for years to no avail and my doctor, whom had been with me since my birth, told me to try to loose weight and stop worrying about it. He said that stressing about it sometimes makes your body fight it, and being over weight didn't help. So, i joined a roller derby league and forgot I was struggling to have a baby. I was enjoying life, skating 3-4 a week, and shedding pounds fast. I had never felt so wonderful so the onset of fatigue and nausea was out of the blue. I was talking to my teammates about it, saying i was dizzy and hungry but when offered food, I would wretch... they urged me to go in. My doctor, a family practitioner, asked if I had taken a home test, which i hadn't because i had by then forgotten that we were trying. We were just enjoying our lives while doing nothing to prevent a pregnancy. Since he knew that I had asked for ways to improve the odds of a pregnancy, he ordered a urine test. 10 minutes later he returned and gave me a hug. Congratulations, you need an obgyn. Here are a few, since the one that helped me deliver you has retired. My beautiful daughter is 11. She was a strong healthy baby, full term to the day, but too large for a natural birth. She got stuck and was starting to weaken. I was also tiring and growing weaker. That i was both gestationally diabetic and had the start of pre-eclampsia, the doctor suggested a c section would be safest for us both. I had, hours and hours earlier, given my husband medical power of attorney over me and the child, as I knew i would be too frazzled and too frightened to make clear decisions. He agreed, and 20mins later, she was born. Just stay of 10# and just shy of 20". On my petite 5' frame with a narrow cervix, even fully dilated as I was, her shoulders were too wide. She wants to go into the medical field, has since she was old enough to form those words. She's smart, and brave, and amazing. I am so happy and so proud to be her mother.

I'm pretty skinny and always have been (my BMI is 20) and when I was 19 I had an IUD put in, had some very bad bleeding and went to my primary care doctor several times over the course of two months and he just kept reassuring me that I couldn't be pregnant and that first I was feeling super tired because I was anemic due to the really heavy period I'd had, and then I was feeling nauseous because of the iron pills I was taking for the anemia, and the spotting was just a very light period because I'd bled so much the previous month. I finally got sick of it and decided to take matters into my own hands and take a pregnancy test at home, which turned positive immediately. So I went to an ob-gyn and guess what, I had a silent miscarriage at 11 weeks and needed an emergency d&c because the embryo had been dead since week 7 and I was at risk for a really serious uterine infection. It was really traumatic and it took me years to trust doctors after that. So I'm sure it happens more to overweight women, but doctors telling you your are definitely not pregnant without bothering to check seems to be a pretty common thing.

i guess i should count myself lucky I'm in England and every time i go see a doctor for anything related to birth control or issues with my cycle etc they do a pregnancy test first. i dont understand why her doctor did not do one as you can get tests from Poundland here and i bet you can get them at dollar tree or whatever your local cheap shop is. usually 2 tests for £1 so it cant cost hospitals that are purchasing in bulk more than 10p per test strip if that. such a quick cheap thing to do that could prevent something horrible

Not pregnancy related, but I have a friend who had gone to see a Dr and all they told her was she had she was overweight and needed to lose some. She got a 2nd opinion and turns out she had cervical cancer. Which could have been caught by the 1st doctor if she had taken the time to check her patient out instead of forming a diagnosis based solely on her weight.

I was also finishing up orientation to L&D on a high acuity unit, which was incredibly stressful. I actually lost 20 pounds and was feeling amazing right before I suddenly had really weird abdominal pains! I thought I had given myself an ulcer- went to my primary doc to figure out what was going on with my stomach. She ran a pregnancy test just to be sure and turned positive immediately! Went to a friend who did ultrasounds and that’s when we found out I was 26 weeks along. Had 0 idea. Had 3 months to get everything ready for our little girl!! (Who at delivery ended up being a boy! Just curious... why didn't you take it out for your period week? You just kept the old one in for a month and switched it right away with the new one? I used to use the nuva ring as well when I was like 20/21. I didn't like it because I'd never had a yeast infection until I started it and was pretty susceptible to them for a while after that. I swear that's the reason but who knows lol. I did like that I could forget about it for 3 weeks though.

I turn around to see the girl who was always tired and she's just standing there with a baby. So crazy. She was pregnant the entire time and NOONE knew or saw it coming. She was also normal weight so no idea where this baby was growing but it sure hid well.

Was baby healthy and delivery normal? Bleeding right through the first trimester must have been a bit scary for you when you found out you were pregnant?
@MrsRichardDalloway4 жыл бұрын
I had a period every month for the first four months, too. I was travelling that entire time, and felt nauseous quite a bit, but I always was vulnerable to motion sickness, so I chalked up the nausea to all the boats, trains, and buses I was riding in, almost every day. I even put on a scopalamine patch when I got particularly seasick on a sailing ship on some stormy seas, never dreaming I could be pregnant. When I finally arrived in an English-speaking country after four months of travelling, I went to see a doctor, and I almost fell over when he did an ultrasound and showed me a fairly large fetus. Everything turned out OK, but it was a very nerve-wracking pregnancy because I never felt the baby move, ever. That happened for both of my pregnancies. At every prenatal visit, the OB/GYN would ask, do you feel the baby moving? And I'd have to say, No. So for both pregnancies, I had to be hooked up frequently to a monitor that would track the babies' movements, for at least an hour every time. I wonder now, how unusual is that, to never feel a baby move? I wanted to feel the babies move inside me, but I never did.

I had absolutely no idea I was pregnant. I had been told since I was 17 that I could Not get pregnant. After that, I lost an ovary to boot. I was 6.5 months pregnant when I realized I was. The night I got pregnant, I had taken plan B the morning after. I had zero symptoms. No belly, was a size 2, no swelling, no cravings, no sickness, I had my period for 5 months (though notable lighter) nothing. I went to the doctor when I was laying in bed and felt some very weird, very aggressive movement in my belly. I told her it felt like I had something inside me. She knew my file and my history and looked at my belly and agreed there was no way. Sure enough, she had me take a test and I was indeed 6.5 months pregnant. I was NOT ready, it was extremely stressful, and it was a genuine miracle and a gift that I never thought I would ever get to have. Best surprise in the entire world. I will say though- for anyone that doesn't know- I DID have a symptom that I had no idea was a symptom. I had never had a nose bleed in my entire life. Ever. And one day about 3 months along, I went into the bathroom to find a random, fairly aggressive nose bleed. Later on I learned it was actually a symptom of pregnancy! I had never heard that before.

This is a confirmation of what i have always felt about these shows. Its absolutely possible to be unaware that you're preggers, but at some point you've got to feel the baby moving around in there unless it is unusually still... which would maybe indicate an unhealthy baby if it's not moving? But almost all the stories I've heard from real people like you (i.e. not on tv) have said the baby was moving so much at around 5 to 6 months that there was no chance of being completely unaware of a change down there. Thank you for this comment! 🧡

I didn't find out about baby #2 until 5&1/2 months in.( I'm not regular by any means so I can go two or three months with no cycle then be on a whole month so...) Even at that point I still was having negative test so we got a sonogram. There he was! Strong heartbeat and everything. I was a bit paranoid because no cravings and he didn't move alot. like I had to physically poke at him to make sure and set reminders to eat. Turns out basically rolled himself up in his cord and literally couldn't move. He came month early but is a healthy ten year old now.

@@joeastham0 Honestly, with my "I didn't know I was pregnant" story (which is actually two stories - yep, I went through that hell TWICE)...what I can now tell, in hindsight, was baby movement...I wrote off as gas. I have some health issues that mean it's not uncommon for me to feel gas moving, sometimes aggressively, and well...frankly, my pregnancies came with some WICKED farts. First pregnancy was also a severely unhealthy pregnancy (stillbirth, in the end), so I definitely wasn't feeling a lot of movement when most folks would be feeling kicking and rolling and cartwheels. I was also on Depo-Provera both times (the first time I was coming up on due for the next shot, the second I wasn't), so pregnancy never even crossed my mind as a potential thing.

I wished I watched this video when you posted it. I held a lot of shame because when I went to get a prescription for the morning-after pill, the doctor was like, "you know, many consider this as an abortion pill. Do you still want it?" He didn't know my situation (I was assaulted) and even if I wasn't, I was an adult capable of making my own decisions. I was not seeking his opinion on that matter in any way. Thank you Mama Doctor Jones for explaining how things work as being so sensitive and reassuring. I love how you word your thoughts.
@nowandaround3124 жыл бұрын
That's so fucked up. Someone asking for the morning after pill is obviously a person who doesn't want to be pregnant, why would a doctor discourage them from taking a very low-risk step to prevent it from happening? He's a medical professional, he's supposed to educate people about why it's _not_ like the abortion pill, or at the very least he should not be encouraging his patients to believe that. If you had decided not to take it because he told you that people say it's the same as abortion and you're opposed to abortion (I don't know if you are, I'm just speaking hypothetically), then what? Now you'd be exposed to all kinds of risks to your physical and mental health for a baby you _don't_ want, and if you decided to keep the baby, assuming you survived the pregnancy and labor, now there's yet another child in the world being raised by someone who doesn't want to be a parent. That doctor is really pissing me off. I'm sorry this happened to you.

I am so sorry that you went through this horrible experience. However, I want to say that I don't agree with Mama Doctor Jones because the morning after pill does have the potential to prevent an egg from implanting that was fertilized. I didnt know i was pregnant with my son until i was about almost 5 months along. My periods have never been regular and if experiancing stress i tend to get sick alot (throwing up n such) so even though i had those signs i just figured it was due to my situation at the time. I had just not even 7 months prior found out i have a cyst in the hormone gland in the back of my brain and just getting pregnant was very slim. But making it through the first trimester would be even slimmer. Me and my hubby joke that our son didnt get that memo because he was coming no matter what. We couldnt be more blessed with our little man. Whos now almost 9 months old. Hes our everything :)

My mom also didn't know she was pregnant with my twin and I for months, she took birth control and she had her period for all of her pregnancy. I think she was about four months along when she realised it and went to the doctor.

@@jackiebarrios1434 I don't know, from what I've read on the subject, it seems that bleeding like that is possible, but it's not actually a real period. It's easy to mistake it for your period though if you don't know you're pregnant.

Love this❣️ A friend of mine just gave birth at 35 weeks a few days ago and didn’t have a clue she was preggers until she started swelling up like crazy! We could hear baby moving once she got the monitor on her belly and we all kept saying did you feel that and she absolutely did NOT feel any movement. AT 35 WEEKS!!! My kids were both kicking the crap out of me by them for sure! She’s older and has always wanted a baby and was told it wasn’t going to happen. So they are thrilled with their little man and he’s super healthy for 35 weeks and no prenatal care and should be released in about a week. I just love stories like yours and hers!!! Enjoy your little one and take care❣️❣️❣️❣️

They are poison to your brains natural ability to produce them. They a detrimental to adolescent brains. And if you have type 2 to begin with becoming type 1 is preventable. I've seen someone choose not to control their type 2 so it evolved to type 1 now hes happily killing himself by shooting up and eating a bunch of sugary crap.

Type 1 is so not preventable!!! Not even a little bit. Been Type 1 since birth so... yeah. It’s a bit annoying, and damn near killed me last year. My sister had a professor who stupidly said all diabetes is preventable, she called BS, cited the 25 years she’s been in a study to track if she shows symptoms (so far, none have shown up) and then mentions two highly-respected doctors and says “I can call them, if you’d like to hear what they say.”

I've gone without sex for months (toddler at home) and I was still made to take a pregnancy test when things were brought up with the doctor (even when I was saying it was impossible to be pregnant). I can't believe a doctor wouldn't run a test when she specifically went in for missed periods!

Only up to "I took the morning after pill" and I went "oh no" because over a certain weight the morning after pill becomes way less effective, and there are specialty morning after pills for overweight and obese women but I'm guessing that's not what she took...

Korrine Petersen, it’s hard for me to recommend a particular specialty when it comes to nursing because everyone is different when it comes to that. I can tell you that it was one of the most fulfilling and rewarding positions for me, but it was also the most stressful position as well. I’m now chronically ill and unable to work, but during my career as a nurse I held many positions, ranging from med-surg, the OR and everything in between. Of all of those jobs, pediatrics and L&D are what I miss the most!
@YeetusTheFetus5 жыл бұрын
I’m really looking into L&D, but I’m also interested in neonatal and paediatrician. What made you decide to stick with labour and delivery? I’m starting nursing school in September btw
