Ob/Gyn physician Mama Doctor Jones reviews an episode of TLC's "I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant" while teaching and commenting on the show. In this episode we see a traumatic accident followed by an amputation and resulting in an undiagnosed pregnancy that turns into surprise labor. This could be the craziest episode yet.

I had a doctor once tell me when I was starting a new medication "You can't get pregnant while taking this." I clarified with her what she actually meant, which was that I should take every precaution to not get pregnant while taking it because if I did get pregnant, the fetus could develop very serious side effects. That is a really important thing for medical professionals to keep in mind -- how they word information matters. It might seem obvious to them what they actually mean when they say things like that, but it isn't always obvious to their patients.

My brother was born at 32 weeks and we called him "the ugly purple cheesy thing that came out of mommy's tummy". My mother wasn't a fan of that name so we went with Joe.

Wow. This is unquestionably the most incredible story I've seen in this video series. This woman had not one but TWO emergency hospital experiences where she woke up from anesthesia and learned that her life had been permanently, irrevocably altered. I am in awe of Alicia! She is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit when pushed to its limits. And such a wonderfully loving and supportive partner she has in Cornelius. That precious Miracle Anne is one brave little fighter, too! I think my heart grew a few sizes watching this ❤

I don't know what's more shocking: waking up to find your leg is gone, or being told you're about to deliver a baby when you were sure that you weren't pregnant.

I was born at 27 weeks and was two pounds at birth I appreciate them showing a preemie story. I have cerebral palsy as a result of a prolapsed cord and prematurity and I would love to see a story where the baby has CP or another long term disability as a result of complications. I often find a lot of the media about preemies is ".....and now they're perfectly healthy, happily ever after, the end!" It makes me feel like those of us with long term disabilities are somehow "failed preemies", when in reality, we're success stories because we survived when it wasn't a sure thing that we would. That being said I also really liked that this episode showcased a disabled mother. Disabled people can be parents!

As a disabled person I’m really happy to see the disability rep in this episode! Many people unfairly assume that disabled people cannot be good parents but that is clearly untrue

When I was 14 I was having long, heavy, incredibly painful periods. My doctor sent me to have an ultrasound, and I had an ovarian cyst around the size of a golf ball. We don't know how big it was because when the tech tried to size it, it ruptured.

I was diagnosed with premature ovarian failure last year. After seeing my OBGYN, Endocrinologist, and a fertility specialist, I was told countless times I would not be able to conceive naturally, that I would need to have an egg donor and do IVF. My boss, who was a Urologist that also took interest in hormone therapy, was the only one who said “challenge accepted, I bet we can get you pregnant within the year!” Sure enough, after only 2 rounds of hormones, I am now 38 weeks pregnant and scheduled for a c-section this weekend!!!!!! I couldn’t be more excited and blessed!

My daughter is nearly 25 now. Still seems like yesterday she was brought into the world! I barely survived carrying her (massive nausea the whole pregnancy, was 86lbs after I had her, and nausea continued 6-7 months after delivery), and I'm a proud Deaf mom with a disability myself, so kudos for this mama taking this in stride and enjoying mommyhood! I've worked with so many moms with disabilities who doubt themselves, and help them figure out the logistics of being a parent (every disability is as unique as we are!) and help them decide the best way to be their own best voices in delivery and parenting, and no two moms are alike. It's so great to see other moms with disabilities on this channel, and in a positive light!

I was an ugly premature baby. My mom’s first words when she saw me was that I looked like ET. I’m a twin and My sister had a congenital heart defect so they didn’t know my mom was pregnant with twins. Because of the way we were situated they could see my sister but only hear my heartbeat since her’s was so low. It wasn’t until 30 minutes before her c-section did they find out there were two of us. I was about half the size of my sister and my arms were locked into strange positions. I always say even in the womb I gave my sister everything. I was so small I easily fit into my dad’s hand and weighed 2lbs 8oz.
