One thing that stands out is the fact that Anakin was weaker than Vader specifically against Obi-Wan, not necessarily in general. Anakin's emotions cost him the fight with Obi-wan, as he did exactly what Obi-wan wanted. Against any other Jedi however, even those more powerful than Obi-wan, Anakin likely would have been the victor.

Dooku was comparable to Windu in terms of saber skills and force ability so if Anakin was already capable of besting someone at that level it would make sense that Sidious was shocked that Anakin lost to Obi Wan.

Agressive combat forms never worked against Obi-Wan. That's why like you said the only Sith that was able to defeat him next to Vader on the Death Star was Dooku.

That’s not exactly true. Obi-Wan has lost a few duels to Maul and a few others in Clone Wars. Overall, he’s a pretty skilled and persistent fighter.

Certainly a plausible explanation. I'm more swayed to the train of thought that as Darth Vader, his mind was more focused on learning than it was as Anakin. Had he trained with as much focus as a jedi, I believe he would have been at an identical level, but he was constantly in turmoil during his jedi training, what with padme, his lack of discipline, Palpatine toying with his mind, etc.

I think the fault of Anakin was his pride in being told he was the chosen one and then applying his passion to jedi training to the point of obsession, his one weakness and greatest strength was that he was not a jedi from birth and then had love and attachment to female caregivers he desperately sought out in Padme after his mother died. The Vader that we eventuallly see is so powerful in the dark side is because he has a twisted form of the divine feminine guiding him in dark care to the point of wanting to turn his son to the dark side. In some dark portion of my soul I want to see a Star Wars where Vader and Luke beat the Emperor and then Vader is having some father son moments teaching Luke how to be evil and seek power kinda like the dark mirror version of Star Wars. But I think in a sense that In order for Anakin to be in the Dark Side he has to have lost to Obi-Wan and be in that suit because the dark side in him temporaily was purely based off the fear of losing his wife. With this in mind Vader is a more powerful darkside user but uncorrupted Anakin is just overall a more powerful force user.

Exactly. The reason he couldn't beat Obi Wan, was because he was totally unstable in his mind. He was always fighting his own demons on top of his opponent, whereas Obi Wan was of sound mind and focused.

Anakin definitely had more raw power and was increasing in power at a rapid pace. The problem was his inexperience and arrogance that prevented him from mastering and honing his powers. Plus he lost those powers and potential after the duel on mustafar. As Darth Vader he found a new way to gain and increase his powers since he was limited. The only thing we have to go by is Luke as a indication of how powerful Anakin could have really been but Anakin would have been more powerful than Luke do to the fact he was born from the force and is the only true force being.

@@OWmyDragonballz Here is the crux I see with your question, Had Anakin not turn to the darkside which progressed the turn of events in which he lost a large portion of his power, Luke would not have become the new chosen one to balance the force, lets just face Luke essentially became that, and more, in a twist of fate for the most part. The only thing I have to say is that it’s stated that on mustafar anakin was nerfed and it wasn’t bc he lost power it was bc he had realized what he did as u know he was crying. The former Jedi was ima confused state and even obi wan said that when they fought on mustafar it was anakin didn’t care to defend or what happened to himself he just attacked ruthlessly and savagely and ofc obi wan knew his old padawan was impatient and arrogant. There was a jock in Lucas’s highschool named “Gary Vader”. Perhaps Gary bullied Lucas, inspiring Luke vs Vader. Besides, Vater sounds different from Vader. Everyone likes to mention Vaders hatred and pain and constant discomfort, and while these definitely did beyond doubt fuel his power and connection to the dark side, power alone is useless without direction and purpose. And the fact that Vader especially just before the events of a new hope, had learned to hone his concentration to an alarming degree and learned to be a bit of a strategist. This above all just enhanced and allowed his connection to the force grow to the level that it did, despite his physical limitations.

Anakin was much more quick and agile of a combatant and lightsaber duelist; but Vader was brutal and precise while also measured and patient, along with all the hatred and power of the dark side of the force. The ability to strike true terror into any opponent. Vader is the clear winner

I personally think that this is very logically bc Vader got far more experience from time to time in the Dark Side and he learned from all his failures! Also Lord Sidious himself once said that true Lords of the Sith should be able to use the Emotions of the Dark Side and the Dark Side itself as tools for their personal gain, but shouldn’t get controlled by these instead! And that was Darth Vaders greatest problem in his early years as a Sith! But the years have passed and Vader became a true Master of his Emotions and the Dark Side itself! This also gave him such a great and calculating Light Saber Style! So he finally became a true Dark Lord of the Sith with an unstoppable Lightsaber Combat Style!

Anakin never reach his full potential, so it's an unfair assessment, if Vader was stronger the conflict inside would have ended. It didn't, so regret and sorrow are pathways to the lightside as much as fear and hate are to the darkside. Yoda and other jedi only ever spoke in half truths, each path light or dark once started would have their own hold on you and forever influence your destiny.

Do you think THIS Vader could beat Palpatine? The Emperor did a lot to keep his enforcer in place, without just getting rid of him, but Vader had to realize he didn't really have a future. Sidious didn't want him to bring Luke so they could collectively turn him, and be some triumvirate of Evil; he was finally ready to replace Vader, and wanted Luke to kill Darth Vader in that progression. He couldn't expect Luke to best the Emperor, especially once he came to his master's defense, and there wasn't an option to tag team the aged Sith Lord. If he wanted to rule the galaxy, with or without Luke, and be more than a tool of another man's unquenchable ambition, he'd have to beat him himself. Lightsabers are good for deflecting Force Lightning, and Vader was proficient with battling others who used the Force offensively. Do you think this more durable, canon Vader, who could use pain inflicted on him to draw even deeper, and who had a lot more reason to fight than the victorious Sidious now did, could beat the Emperor; deflect his Lightning, and cleave his form with his advanced skill with the blade?

Lucas said Vader only reached 80% of the power of Sidious at his peak so there’s no way he’d be able to win without some other factor in his favor. It’s why Vader had numerous apprentices throughout his life.

By the time of the original trilogy, one gets the sense that Vader had grown tremendously disciplined in his dueling style. He seemed to tailor his combat forms to his opponents--- slow & careful against Obi Wan on the Death Star, methodically-toying against Luke on Bespin.

Do u have a video about ancient sith having visions/premonitions about Vader in the future? I’ve never heard that before, that’s really awesome, I’d love to find out about that! Also, I don’t know if I would consider vader as STRONGER than anakin. It sounds like they’re saying he’s a better duelist, even tho I don’t think that’s ENTIRELY accurate, as different situations/opponents would be better handled by different techniques, so Anakins “sledgehammer” would be better than Vader’s “scalpel” in some situations, but overall still, it sounds like Anakin was still actually STRONGER, but vader more than made up for it with his skill.

For me I believe Its less to do with "Jedi" or "Sith" and more that Vader/Anakin just got older and more experienced. Anakin would have become stronger regardless of the path he was on. Regardless of how hard Vader tries to distance himself from Anakin or how hard Obi Wan convinces himself that "Anakin" is dead he's still Anakin😏 - the way he deals with things, his battle tactics, etc its pretty consistent across all the live action and animated stuff. Obi will always have a slight edge over Anakin/Vader because of how well he knows him.

Of course anakin ultimatley lost because he was internally conflicted and overly emotional, not due to his lack of hard work. Kenobi's power level was "below average"* *for a true master Jedi and council member that one stat is not Kenobi's strong suit and it is not a straight up power level either. There is nothing preventing a mediocre powerful force user from exercising total mastery of their specialty, or from learning and even mastering techniques that are far beyond what an average force user with a higher raw 'power' level. Kenobi was the embodiment of disciplined study and adherence to the values of the Jedi order, of cool compassion and unflinching willingness to act when it's his responsibility. Calling him 'below average' without heavily qualifying it is straight up wrong. He was a talented Jedi and clearly stood out from any 'average' Jedi on his strength of character alone.

Well they only fought twice according to GL, and I stick by that lore. I agree with all points that you made without the Reva Show's points being in there. Vader was new to his power on Mustafar, and much more focused but still weary of Kenobi on the Death Star.

I like your take. I thought Darth Sidious took advantage of Anakin’s defeat by Obi-Wan on Mustifar by purpose or opportunity by blunting his full potential of power as Darth Vader by encasement of his life supporting armor. This, Sidious reduced his apprentice’s ability to betray and replace Sidious as Sith are supposed to do. I think it makes a lot of sense that Vader found a work around to enhancing his Dark Force power through a slower evolution of becoming a cold, calculated, and disciplined machine of war - something he was able to do because of his Jedi training.

Force Strength is something people get too caught up on, IMO. Because the darkside of the Force is a derivative of the force and not really accessing the will of the force anyone relying on it is inherently weaker than someone operating and operated directly by the full force. Also, because the force has a will and it is not evil the will of the force will always act as an unbeatable multiplier of cosmic power for the force user that fully submits him/herself to it’s will against a common force thief like a Sith.

You know the sad part is, with all the innocents and children Ani killed to turn himself to the dark side, there was nothing but cold indifference as he cut them down, but with Obi-Wan there was real seething rage there because if there was one person he definitely thought he could rely on, it was Obi Wan. And it definitely shows in that he wanted Obi Wan to back down and didn’t want to fight. If Vader had killed Obi Wan there, Anakin would really have been lost.

Yoda' s line of Jedi tended to have a raw emotion in youth. Then later due to the advanced and higher training they developed this measured style which was very grand and yet calm on the battlefield. in short all of the Yoda's line of Jedi from Dooku to Ben Solo dual with an expert command of the their style and the force. Yoda would be very proud of them all.

my interpretation is that obi wan still could have beat Vader. But he is surrounded by stormtroopers while Luke and Leia were escaping, so he realized perhaps they couldn't escape if he killed Vader because then it would be war on the death Star against a Jedi, everyone would be alerted. So he chose to become a force ghost to better serve Luke. Also Vader didn't kill obi wan, Kenobi vanished before getting hit thus denying Vader of the kill.

When Vader draws his power from suffering to enhance his power in the dark side unlike other Sithlords. To hypothesize Darth Sidious can’t use force lighting at all and as a traditional Sithlord he enhances his power like all the other Sithlords before him with rage and hate. Wouldn’t that make Darth Vader a better duelist in lightsaber combat then his Master Darth Sidious?

If that's the case he kinda sucks at it. Have you heard the tragedy of Darth Sion, Lord of Pain? It's basically if Anakin just raged so much on the lava beach that he just CRAWLED home, and didn't even need a suit afterwards, just raged hard enough to keep his broken body going. Then have this happen to him several times to the point where his body, biologically, is a corpse. That's Darth Sion.

I just watched the prequels and I think it's so jnteresting that Obi Wan is trying to win against Anakin in friendly brotherly competition in these films (mostly 2) and the one time he wins in a competition it's to kill his brother.
