Matt, first thing you need is a smart sprinkler, I use 2 x Rachios (for 32 zones), and they alert me when a pipe or sprinkler head is not working via a change in the pressure of the water. that will save you water and lawn maintenance cost.

Always ask a contractor what he would do if it were his house, and whether that would be different than what he recommends to you. If the price shocks, then ask whether there is a 'good/better/best' approach, and what expectations are with each.

Where does your irrigation water come from? That could be a big source of chemicals or contaminants that you definitely don't want hitting the grass. I know lots of subdivisions around here have separate water service for irrigation fed from drainage ponds - thus sending street runoff and seed from weeds right back in to your yard

Way too expensive for what he’s offering. A complete soil test is $40 per test. Not rocket science. $2000 for advice is a complete waste. pH ... Lime for acidic or Sulfur for alkaline. Get the Lawn Care Nuts digital guides for $35 and go. You’re a successful busy guy but it’s not that hard.

I live in Southern California and I mow and take care of my lawn. I have a Marathon 2 fescue that grows very well. Lawns don’t like shade and pet urine. I keep my lawn fertilized 4 times a year. Twice a year I use a product that controls the worms. I cut my grass 2 1/2 inches. Different fescues like to be cut at a certain length. If you have mushrooms you are watering your lawn too much. The best way to control weeds is to sod your lawn from the start. I took three months to prepare my soil to make sure I killed all the old lawn and Bermuda weeds. I used the correct amends and starter fertilizer before I put my sod in. I also put in my own sprinklers. 15 years later I have very little to no weeds. In areas with shade I put in crushed granite walk ways. Next year I am going to take out 1/2 of my lawn and put in drought tolerant plants. I love my lawn but I want to save water and after 20 years of a lawn I want more of a colorful natural plant yard with a smaller lawn. I think doing your own gardening is good exercise. I could hire a gardener but I enjoy working in the yard like I enjoy detailing my cars.
@footnfan5 жыл бұрын
Matt, as a 30+ yer resident in Florida, who has a grass thing like you have a car thing, most grass status changes ( after things improve) are water related. Grass goes a little down hill, check sprinklers first, especially during summer. Floratam grass ( St Augustine) is very tough, but will not tolerate heat with little water for several days. We live in the 239 which is even more unforgiving than where you live. Also, we have 4 Dalmatians, they are much tougher than your kids, your grass should still look great, even if they play on the lawn, a LOT! See my evidence below. Yes, I do mow it myself which probably helps by keeping monster mowers off of it. Just my two cents, good luck. You can see where my care stops, and the neighbors begins in pic number 1. His issue is poor watering. i.imgur.com/jDNCqMMl.jpg i.imgur.com/mSvgf06l.jpg i.imgur.com/hh6dDJbl.jpg i.imgur.com/QzF9JDul.jpg i.imgur.com/QzF9JDul.jpg i.imgur.com/QzF9JDul.jpg

This guy has a pretty good business. He charges two thousand a year for going to your yard and pulling some plugs 😂. I farm a couple hundred acres that’s under alfalfa and grass and soil test it for $30 a sample at CSU and they tell me what the soil needs. He sounds like he knows something when In fact he doesn’t know a damn thing. If he actually knew something he would test the soil himself. All he’s doing is taking what the lab told him and rewriting it on a piece of paper to give to you. This guy is clever.

This process works for us in Florida. Step one: Take sample to your local county extension office. (Free) Step two: Find the cheapest fertilizer (preferably broken/clearance) from HD or Lowes. Add Epson Salt. Spread 50% recommended ratio. Step three: Have sharp blades on mower. It's going to grow like crazy. Resource: Jerry Baker. Look for YT channel.

soil analysis is always 1st step, PH is crucial . soil test will guide NPK & micros no sun, no turf. if soil is acidic , need to lime, lime lime . big difference between mow &blow and turf expert st aug (clumping fescue of the South) is loud I recommend smoking the st aug and go with elite bermuda or Zoysia moister meter is a good tip . h20 - deep and infrequent soil fertility is key mow mow mow mow

Nothing wrong with your lawn water, fertilizer and sunlight won't fix. Grass DOES NOT grow well in shade. A quality pre-emergent weed control will keep your weeds minimized. Saint Augustine likes to be cut high.
