Having fun on our little coaster, Harry? Ride it again.

I rode the Rocket many times. In high school we would go out there and at the time it was 35 cents, and 25 for a repeat ride. We would load our pockets wit quarters and ride until we ran out. The last night it was open, my late wife and I by sheer dumb luck ended up on the last public ride. After we got off, they loaded up dignitaries (Norfolk Mayor, TV and radio personalities, newspaper reporters) and ran them and shut it down forever. Yes, the rattles, jerks, etc. were part of the thrill. If you were in the back part of the train, you would lift off the seat on the crest of the first hill.

That is so cool that you got to ride it!

Exactly as I remember it. I was one of the last people to ride the roller coaster before they closed it down. (Worked at the Milton‘s Pizza across the street from it for a while). Thanks for bringing back the memories

I got sick at Milton's Pizza. You served me bad cheese pizza. I remember that vividly. You were laughing as you walked to the amusement park.

Very nicely done. I rode the original in and around 1970 with my dad. I used to go there every summer from Massachusetts because of his job through the Navy Yard. It had a great first drop. It was a classic woodie. I was sorry to see it go. Thanks for the very cool recreation~ Rob/Boston

Featured in Roller Coaster (1977). It's a shame being in the movie that lead to the creation of ACE didn't save it. Also I bet had Kennywood known what the film would become they wouldn't have said "no" to being used for filming like they did.
@Monorail-Beyond-the-Veil Жыл бұрын
Do you mean Kennywood didn't know it would get bombed and the train of cars would derail? I remember that scene.
@urbex_coasters Жыл бұрын
@@Monorail-Beyond-the-Veil I'm talking about the legacy of the film. No film, no ACE. That's my understanding anyways (please correct me if that isn't accurate). And Kennywood has hosted ACE events and has ACE landmarks so I guess that's the answer.

If Knoebels can revive the Flying Turns coaster model, then who knows maybe some park(Six Flags Park most likely) might rebuild the Oceanview Park Rocket. It would be a Perfect fit for Six Flags Over Georgia(My home Six Flags Park).

I wish more parks would build Schmeck's old layouts.

@@RaptorAlex i was going to see if schmeck actually built it (which they did) on rcdb and then the "random roller coaster" that appears on my screen when i go into rcdb was ocean view rocket lol, but actually im not the biggest schmeck fan myself, i much prefer john miller, but this and idora park wildcat r probably his best defunct coasters
@RaptorAlex4 жыл бұрын
@@MillenniumForceMan He was involved in the redesign after it opened. Yes, Miller is great too. I've recreated a decent number of Schmeck's rides, and researching them made me appreciate his work a lot more.

Jack Rabbit is on my list to consider. Someone else made a really good Thunderbolt, but I think they only shared it on a Facebook group, sadly.

Sadly it didn’t. It lumbered over the drops. I first rode in in 1971 & returned 3 more times on coaster trips. I’d have loved to have ridden it when it was in good shape because it was filled with potholes and unintentional loose track.
