Different location, different terrain, even the accents of the seals sounded different. But what wasn’t different was the pain these animals get from the “freaking crap” that humans leave behind and the care and help that these heroes give to these animals. It may have made little difference to the group as a whole, but it made a world of difference to that particular seal. Thank you gentlemen 🦭🌊💙

I can't understand why the authorities and veterinary specialists haven't designed or authorized some sort of sedative or painkiller just to minimise the suffering short term on cases like this. Imagine as a human a medical professional doing similar to yourself without sedation/painkiller....the pain would be unimaginable and these seals they feel pain

@@philhunt9297 the team has commented before that they prefer not to use sedatives because it delays the seal returning to the ocean and being able to swim safely and fully aware. They also have to stay with it while it recovers, delaying the time they could be spending helping other seals that are on the run. And as you've seen, some of those bigger seals are nearly impossible to hold down - imagine having to spend an extra 5-10-20 minutes wrestling a 400lb seal

You did a GREAT job of in situ field surgery, as heart breaking as it was for you to see. All you can do is pick a place to start then systematically work your way around, the way you did. It was very reassuring to see such healthy looking tissue, no obvious dead tissue or major infection, possibly thanks to the attentions of the pup's Mum. The pup was such a good patient as you worked, a site sign it was already so used to the constant pain. When you're struggling to see the entanglement strands in such deep wounds, or in infected wounds, you could use saline eye wash tubes to flush the wound clear, the little 20ml First Aid tubes are probably more practical than you needing to carry a bigger bottle around, as they're small enough to fit into a pocket and you, have a long shelf life, and to use, you just tear off the end and squeeze the same into the wound, flushing away any blood and pus to help you see the entanglement and remove it. I'll make a donation so you can pick up some locally, which I assume should be readily available, or to put the money to use somewhere else you think will be more helpful ...like buying Wally a new pair of gloves ❤️ Wally, lesson learned that sometimes you don't have gloves when you most need them, although your comment about having one bare hand would help you feel better ...when you're bitten, did make me laugh out loud 😆 Definitely worth rolling up a spare pair of gloves and keeping them in one of you pouches because if a glove can be mislaid once, it can happen again! 💡 It's amazing that this poor little seal survived with such an awful entanglement for so long, and was definitely blessed that you spotted it and were able to release it, after suffering for so long. Gill net is EVIL 👿 It makes me so angry not only that people are obviously still making it and using it, but discarding it so thoughtlessly.
