5.7 s just don’t have high top end but lots of torque. 135mph with a governor is just pitiful for a 370 hp car. My avenger maxes at 120 MPH and other cars like the Toyota camary will do 120/130 ish. That’s why the R/at is frowned upon. The scatpack/ Hellcat aren’t electronically governed.

@AlessandroVolta1 4 жыл бұрын
I look at it like this. The RT is great if you would normally be buying aa Accord, Camry, Or any of the base Euro sedans, the RT is an awesome choice and has a way bigger trunk , bigger seats and is way more fun and feels more powerful. Also since the RT is only lowered a 1/2 inch more than a SXT, you can still drive it if you live somewhere with potholes and snow covered roads like northern Pennsylvania. The other thing is regular gas which saves me some $s. If I lived in a state with good roads and cheap gas I’d be driving a Scat.

I like my RT. I don't really drive over 90 at anytime. But I do like to get there pretty quick. I do want some more power. Once the warranty is up I'm going to Whipple charge it. So I'll be close to 500 hp and have lower insurance. It's a give and take for each situation like you said.

I total agree with you, I used to have a 2018 Scat Pack Charger and I loved that car but of course was just itching for more power so went with the Hellcat Charger. After having the Hellcat for about a year its true the scat pack is the most bang for the buck. When driving around I want to always just mash the gas in the hellcat but here in California (Pre-quarantine) is always traffic and just nowhere for me to use the power unless I track it but as a daily just eats up gas like crazy Avg is about 11 to 12 mpg. Scat pack is the perfect balance of price and power!

IMO 5.7 - Great intro to the v8 community. You get enough power to have fun and it sounds good 6.4 - Is the best spot to be at for some good runs and all that good stuff 6.2 - Well its just another story, fast af 😂
@nkjellman
@nkjellman 4 жыл бұрын
I agree with that. Though to add, if you're looking for the modding experience, the 5.7 is the way to go. That thing is bottle necked from the factory, and every mod is going to gain more power compared to a stock 5.7. If you wanna put a blower on the car, but don't wanna pay for a Hellcat, the 5.7 is definitely safer to do that with.

Why are so many people obsessed with R/T vs scat pack vs hell cat??,my parents taught me that a car is a necessity but only to buy what you can afford ,the only thing you should ever borrow money for is a house and that’s last resort,when I was a kid I had a beat 1984 Mercury lynx that I used to get back and forth to work and school,when I got older and had kids I bought my wife a used Taurus and myself a ram 1500 4x4 both used and both paid in cash,now that my kids are grown I taught them the same way,I myself love the look of the challenger,I saw one that I loved so I bought it,it happens to be. 5.7,I am a mechanic so I am more than likely going to build an engine for it sooner than later,if I wasn’t mechanically inclined and I wanted a “faster”challenger I’d save and buy a hellcat ,I just can’t figure all these videos and social media comments ,fights sometimes about rt vs scat pack vs blah blah,if you can’t afford the car in the 1st place why would you want to have such a big bill just to have a car that you can really only use the extra HP every now and again?is it worth it?,or is it the majority of folks out there are paying cash so this isn’t the issue?I mean if it’s a “I’m faster than you”issue go spend 2500 on a gsxr or ninja and smoke every car on the road if that’s your wish ,I love all these cars ,mopars are my passion,the challenger is probably the best looking platform out there as far as American cars go,mustangs look like they came from Japan,the camaro was appealing to me until I drove a 2012 and it just fell short of what I was looking for,but prbly the 2nd best looking of the new “muscle cars”…but all the tit for tatt gets old real quick

the 5.7 is in my opinion the ultimate engine to build on. you get your self a comp cam some some heads and injectors, drop in forged rods and pistons maybe a crank that increases stroke and throw on a whippel twin screw and you can build a hellcat level car for a fraction of the hellcat price. i am actually working on a build with a retired police charger. it has the 5.7 HEMI and an AWD set up which is great to offset the massive weight of the charger it is a 2020 but it has the old Mercedes built NAG1 Transmission. that sounds like a downside but a built one will run you 6 grand and i can drop it in with out any modification that transmission will handle upwards of 1200 crank HP. when i get done with the build i plan to make 800 hp to the wheels and with the AWD system it should be a fun little pice of car.

I love how unlike a lot of other reviews out there that I've seen, you actually factor in the cost of ownership. I'm looking at a challenger for a daily driver and commuter, so in my case I'd be a lot more inclined towards the Scatpack due to things like insurance, fuel costs, maintenance costs and good ol' depreciation. For my situation, things like that are a little more important than the whole "this one has this kind of track suspension setup and that's why you should spend $25,000 more on it" lol

I think it is what you want. The 5.7 is a great modding platform. The 6.4 is kind of good for modding but not with boost as much. The hellcat(s) are an all out vehicle. I personally like the lower cars like the rt scat and 5.7 rt. There is much more customization opportunities that I can do. I do everything to my car and there is more of a joy to that to me than just buying the car. Point is it is YOUR car make it what you want. Ps. The rt is still very much a muscle car. It is not reslly lacking that much hp with 390hp and 410tq. That is A LOT for a street car. And the reason you get worse mpg on the redeye is that blower LOL

I followed the same path. I started with a R/T Shaker and found it lacking in power. I upgraded to the Challenger Scat Pack 6 speed manual; it was a terrific car. I was itching to have a Hellcat and pulled the trigger 5 months later. Although the Hellcat was a thrill to own and drive ( not as a primary car) I felt that it was like dancing the tango with a 400 pound bipolar woman. I sold it 18 months later and purchased a well equipped 2019 Charger Scat Pack with the Dynamics Package ( Hellcat brakes and wheels). The Scat Pack is an excellent value proposition with just the right amount of power and practicality. I’ve owned many cars and still have an assortment of cars. The Scat Pack is my favorite. Gotta love the N/A 392.

Same takeaway for me. Went from 5.7 Grand Cherokee to 392 Durango to hellcat Durango. I figured I'd I stayed out of boost mileage would be comparable to SRT. I thought wrong. SRT was a far better daily. Just picked up a beater to offset the frustration while I chunk this thing down. Gonna stick to drive a focus when I know I have a HC waiting at home. But that fuel is a car payment every month.

I did almost the same thing, but started with a Scat Pack and then jumped to a Red Eye. I used my 2017 Scat Pack as a daily driver for 3 years before going to a Hemi Shootout, thanks Mopar... once I saw a few Hellcats and Demons, it was either I’m trying to do a supercharger upgrade or I’m looking at the new offerings from Mopar. I opted for the safest way to the horsepower I needed. You talked a little about the cost of ownership. For me personally I loved the Scat Pack, because if I would drive my mother in law, I could get 21 mpg out of that big HEMI. If I drove it like I liked to drive it, I would average about 12mpg. For the Redeye, probably the best that I have seen is 12mpg and I average around 9mpg with my normal driving. It is a thirsty machine, but you have to love the noises that it makes. All in all, I am using the Red Eye as a daily driver and love it. The Smiles per Gallon for that car are very high, even for the overall cost.

I talked my friend out of getting an R/T because not only is it a waste of money but dealerships will scam the hell out of you and tell you there isn’t another car like this one for the $35K price range when in reality you could find a scat pack model 4 years behind the current year for around the same price. The R/T didn’t knock my socks off, especially once I learned that the SXT wasn’t much slower than the R/T unfortunately. I think my next purchase needs to be a Scat Pack widebody i'm not quite Hellcat redeye yet but one day just not anytime soon, but I like to keep my options open in my future since I don't have kids & debt other than my mortgage...I love your vehicle it's awesome i'm unfortunately not at that level but it's another 5 year goal.

I like the RT better. its a tougher engine and insurance is cheaper. For 5 grand you can make it faster than the scat. And I put the superbness on mine. Also, the scat pack stage kits,

Negative, gonna put a lot of money into it with warranty voided and still underpowered. I nodded my 2018 Daytona and was still behind

Tommy Milligan I feel you man it’s a lot of money spent I’m like 10k in and I’ll still be 45 hp from a stock scat. It’s fun but costly 💯

Ryan Kelsey there’s absolutely NO WAY you can make a 5.7 outperform a 6.4 for $5k. Only way is a supercharger, and that’s $7k.

David I’m almost 7 grand in and he’s right still not beating scats can run with them for a little bit, but the power and torque is just too much

Excellent comparison. You're in a unique position to give advice on these 3 cars, since you drove them yourself. High Five! PS: I have a 392 ScatPack ;) just installed a DiabloSport iTune3 with a PCM swap. My tires are spinning in Gear 2 in Sport Mode. This is the next best thing to a HellCat. Next mod: long tube headers with ceramic coating. Thanks for the video!

I've owned two challengers, both scatties. A 2016 6.4l scatty, standard body with a manual transmission. I throw on a full Hurst Pistol grip short shifter and a full cat back Corsa Extreme exhaust, it was a blast..... Today I have a new scatty. My one regret is, i've should of been patient and waited for the 1320 Angry Bee. The only dealership (which I have no problem calling them out for there shitty service, Prestige Dodge in Centennial Hills, Las Vegas AND there sister dealership in Henderson NV called Towbin Dodge. I should of went to Chapman Dodge in Henderson NV, were I bought my 2017 Rubicon jeep, but they had zero wide bodies. But that was my experience, you all may of had better experience there) that had a Wide Body in that dark deep burgundy was at Prestige, but it has the automatic transmission which Im not a fan of when it comes to muscle cars, paddle shifters are not as fun in my opinion.. But I did put on another Corsa Extreme and since my cars are registered to my small ranch in Pahrump which is Nye County, I paired it with Corsa headers with a Diablo tune, and I dont have to worry about emission laws like in Henderson where my main house is because it sits in Clark County, so does Vegas and Clark county adopted Cali emission laws..... BTW, im pushing close to 540hp. Next best thing after a RedEye..
