I would like to highlight that "Captain William Kidd" Kidds real life inspiration is notorious for being the Unluckiest renowned pirate from the pirate era. Which fits everything kidd has gone through in the story that we know about really.

The sad thing is Kid was kind of created to fall. When introduced his bounty was higher than Luffy most due to the fact that Kid had killed civilians not because of bigger feats. Even when justifications were given later said justifications would not have motivated Luffy or law to take things that far. Add into that ch 1 Shanks' 'don't play games of life and death unless you are prepared to die in the process' attitude. Kid may yet still survive, but this end was predetermined from the moment he showed up.

I think what people who get annoyed by how strong Shanks is, as shown in this chapter and in Wano, forget is that Shanks is not a normal guy. He is not just the guy who put the peotagonist on his way and is his end goal. Shanks is of a mysterious lineage. He was found in a chest in God Valley. He is of some very special origin, maybe more special than Luffy's. So lets all just remember that.

I hope people don’t think Shanks is stronger than Roger because Roger didn’t obliterate Oden. Roger was happy, excited that the samurai people are talking about just showed up. Shanks was pissed because his friends were about to be killed. Roger apparently turned into a demon when his friends are in danger, Shanks appears to have that same trait.

Great point but i wanna lean into thinking that shanks surpassed rogers strength but not his legend only becuz the story has a theme of the next generations surpassing their predecessors, everyone knows luffy will surpass rogers legend but we wont know definitively if luffy surpassed rogers strength thats why oda has shanks imitating roger to a t but also making rogers attacks into his own so i expect shanks to be luffys final fight in the series to prove luffy has surpassed rogers strength

Shanks represents destiny and creating a pathway for Luffy to fulfill prophecy….. Luffy represents freedom and having free will. They will clash with each other bc Shanks has been creating a Path for prophecy to be fulfilled but fulfilling prophecy is still constraining someone to one direction with no choice, not complete freedom. Shanks crying on Roger shows he is trying to achieve a prophecy. Luffy represents Joyboy not being able to achieve a prophecy disappointing the Fishmen because he had to do something with his free will to not fullfil that prophecy.

It’s actually crazy that Shanks’ sword is named Gryphon because in mythology Griffins are said to pull the chariot of the sun gods. With Shanks being the one to path Luffy’s way I think it shows how much Oda thought about how to connect the two on a deeper level

In japanese pop media thereis a significant difference between doing something out of duty, and doing the exact same thing because of your own conscience or sense of justice. People hoping for Kid to return feels a lot like the 'raid will fail' all over again. I never believed the raid would fail because of how much story time it would waste. We're at the end of the series, we have so many important things that need to be wrapped up. I don't hate Kid, but I feel like people hoping for him to use this moment to grow and become amazing just detracts from what's important. This isn't me saying he is dead, but I think this is a fitting end to his journey. Not every character needs an epic send off. As JoyBoy even says, by Wano, it was incredibly obvious Kid is not even close to Luffy's level. What does him coming back do? So you see him show up and get a shot during the final war? Kid's a side character. He just isn't that important.

A year ago mayority was saying theres gonna be only some elbaff chapters, cause theres no time, and look now, oda was trolling as always. We are moving fast but in a new surprising arc with new characters, new hopes for the moon (as example), mantaining elbaff hopes, etc. So i personally gonna enjoy more knowing there are lot of smoke around us, and pretending everything can happen with any character. Personally I don’t think it would take that much time to wrap up Kidd. 1 chapter max and I think as Joyboy said it could be used as motivation and to show someone so dogged that they won’t give up as she tries to build a new ship alone. Someone who lost everything and is still trying. Then at the end of the story we see a panel of Kidd leaving Elbaf on this ship. That’s all it needs to be.

The main difference between luffy and kidd is charisma. Kidd and Luffy are both stubborn headstrong dumbasses but luffy actually attracts people to him, allowing them to make up for his shortcomings. Whenever luffy fights a badguy, he doesn't just have his crew backing him- he has people he just met backing him too! Kidd on the other hand not only lacks this charisma, but actively hurts other people. Whenever he's anywhere, he's a lone wolf. Outside of killer, he doesn't have people that can check his shortcomings because he's just an asshole. Luffy has plot armor and nepotism but he also has the ability to make allies with anyone, as Mihawk said in marineford. That's why he can squeeze out victories where he should have been annihilated just like Kidd. Kidd is headstrong af and deserves respect for continuing after getting L after L after L, but his stubborn ess and inability to work with others will always cause him to never make it. It's fitting that the only reason he got OHKOd is because he targeted people that Shanks cared about, reinforcing Shank's and Luffy's similarities and proving why Luffy is pirate king material like roger (and like Shanks tbh) and why Kidd will never be.

I think Oda mishandled the supernova For so many years I agreed with the idea that the supernova were a great last minute decision by Oda. However following Wano and looking at other arcs of the story he hasn’t handled them well at all. We have way too many of them and all of them have basically become plot devices to move the story forward. These characters had a lot of potential but at the end of the day they were simply here to either move the plot forward or make Luffy look good. These characters aren’t in the race for the king of pirates. They don’t feel like rivals anymore as the one piece no longer feels like a treasure just anyone can get. It seems like it’s custom fit for luffy. Btw this isn’t a downplay on Oda he’s an awesome writer. One of the greatest of all time arguably only second to Miura and One Piece is my favorite series of all time. I think it’s okay sometimes to acknowledge something could have been done better or something isn’t as good as you thought it was. We are in the endgame. And Oda is trying to limit the contenders for the one piece. Big Mom, Kaido, Kidd, Law and many other characters are out of contention for one piece. My point for this post was to look back at how these supernova, who were originally introduced as rivals for luffy, measured against him. Yes luffy is the main character he will be the one at the top at the end but these characters had a role to play and did they live up to their roles? To me the answer is no. And that’s okay

I feel like part of why Oda showed the panel of Kid's crewmates being knocked out from Shanks' conqueror's haki was to suggest they wouldn't be conscious to save Kid. Those who didn't get knocked out and gave up the poneglyph rubbings were blown away by Dorry and Brogy. The narrator's dialogue was just the period to finalize it. Kid is dead.

I get what you're trying to say. But let's be real. Kid brought everything upon himself. He asked for every bit of what happened. He might have the same goal as Luffy as far as wanting to be the Pirate King. But the way they're both going about it is very different. Luffy has liberated a number of different people along his way. Kid on the other hand has created a path of destruction. He doesn't care who he kills or what he destroys. Oh I won't worry about Kid, his theme is King of the scrapyard, he will rebuild his kingdom out of scrap one way or another (hopefully more like Crocodile and less like Moria), his crew though.... rest in pieces, it was never meant to be, immediately after Killer ate his smiles and his crew committed to become a happy pirate crew they have sealed their fate, happiness is a poor match to the rage, pain and rebellion that his brand represents.

it's not about destiny.....its about making the right choices along the way. Luffy always helped people and chose the wholesome way. kidd always chose the cruel and killing way.....in essence his mindset regarding the whole thing wasn't right which is why he himself lead to his doom. Luffy messed with big mom for sanji, messed with kaido for momo......kidd messed with shanks just because to make name.....very different mindset. Luffy always fights for others and against injustice

Maybe Kid will be some kind of reccuring joke. He ran into a Yonko, get crashed and captured and then rescued by Luffy. When Luffy comes to Elbaf Kid will be imprisoned there. Luffy will tell them he is a good guy and they should give him a boat so he can get away. Then Kid will run into Blackbeard and the same thing will happen again.

Although not stated directly, conqueror's haki was hyped as a deal-breaker power but so far it looks just like another armament haki that's just stronger… basically, it's lacks specialness. This makes me think Kid's defeat point was to demonstrate the true power of conqueror's haki, that being the power to "conquer" other people… becoming their "king." This would mean Kid would become Shanks subordinate even if he didn't want to voluntarily, and possibly he loses his own conqueror's haki as well.

Shanks is the hype. Kid is no more, and his crew. Three things I want to know: - How's Law doing? - Who gets Kids DF, I don't think he made it. I hope at least they buried them out of respect. - What does Shank know... with is observations, and how far can he see? I feel like Oda is going to change his MO for End Piece. End Piece will have a lot of unexpected death, it might turn into Akame Ga Kill.

I'm liking the possibility that its not the main Saber of Xebec ship turning up and we could actually get some BB vs Law later on. Rather it being Kuzan turning up on one of the other BB fleet ships by himself as we did not see him in the Law fight. Could be nice parallels with Ohara given that we have just found that Saul was spared by him

I see a small chance of Shanks ordering the Kid Pirates pulled out of the water. Maybe that’s why none of the Red Hairs are allowed to have devil fruits and why Luffy needed to swim and be strong before being allowed onto the ship. The Red Hairs kick butt, then they pull people to shore. Sea prism cuffs required, though.

JB what if, and hear me out, it isn’t black beard showing up but Aokiji? Since Oda likes to use past events but reverse it, this would be exactly like the Ohara situation but opposite, where Aokiji is then against the marines and the world gov? Also a couple of chapters ago Blackbeard was fighting Law, and I don’t see him one shoting law. Also it would be really cool to see Aokiji vs Kizaru :D

This makes a lot of sense we did see only one of black beards ships, and we still are on the fence wether aokiji is a spy or is with sword or the revolutionaries. If he was coming to egghead because he does not want another Ohara to happen would be very Oda like actually. I feel like straw hats, lucci & co, plus aokiji and the world government would be insane and really show that Oda is playing on hard mode right now.
