1:40 Child of a lunch lady here. The reason that kids are required to take a fruit or vegetable even if they won’t eat it is because of funding. Lunch crews are required to give every part of the food pyramid or they loose funding (even if the food pyramid is a scam) and schools are really not willing to lose funding and would rather waste a few hundred apples. It’s not the lunch crew’s fault. They will get fired if they don’t follow that rule.

1:50 Robin, this is because things like free lunch programs *require* students to take a fruit or vegetable for the school to keep the benefits. It sucks, I hate the wasting food as well, but that’s how “the game” as they said works. I remember having a staff member standing at the end of the lunch line, checking to make sure we had either a fruit or veggie on our tray. Thankfully, we also had a “sharing table” that we could put (still packaged) food on that we weren’t going to eat, and someone else could take it. Yeah I went to high school in West Virginia which had all free lunch programs and it was like that. I don't think there was a sharing table though. Lots and lots of wasted fruits and vegetables in the trash. Thankfully my family wasn't quite that poor and I always brought my own lunch. Similarly, my middle school's administration started requiring us to "read" books from the end of our last class until our bus was called. We weren't even allowed to use the bathroom, we had to hold it until we got home. Didn't matter whether we were actually reading, we just had to look like we were reading. Thankfully, my teacher was very openly aware of the absurdity of the whole thing even though she still had to enforce it.

8:22 it’s a railroad term, used for a specific kind of train yard, a “Hump Yard”. It works like this. A smaller switcher locomotive pushes a railcar to the tip of a man-made or altered hill, and lets go of the railcar at the tippy-top. The railcar rolls down this hill, which is called the “Hump”. It rolls along, sometimes passing by breaks equipped to the tracks to slow it down. These breaks are now as “Retarders”. It rolls along, until it is switched onto a track to help configure a freight train. The process of rolling a car on the Hump is called “Humping”. Sometimes, railcars are too long and would derail on the hump, or have special equipment on board, damaging it if it were humped. So, for railroad workers to see, they write something like “DO NOT HUMP” in big bold letters on the side to get their attention, and not get it sent to the hump.

Speed limit signs with fractions aren’t city ordained, therefore not enforcable. Something something permit for speed limit signs ending in 5 or zero workaround

0:10 I may have the answer for this sign. It's something I'm somewhat familiar with (in a way). Looks like this is a plasma (or waterjet) cutter, and the vapour/dust particles coming off of the materials can be hot and/or dangerous in any other way (acidic, toxic, sharp, carcinogenic e.g.). I have this when I'm cleaning and refining a freshly forged knife. A lot of steel dust is created and thus am I wearing a carbon filter. It may be a bit overkill, but I'd rather have overkill safety gear than dusty lungs as an acquaintance of mine once said "dust lungs are worse than cancer". There is logic to this. Cancer can be treated, but once the dust is stuck in your lungs it is game over. Much like smoking, once it's started damaging your lungs there's no turning back. You can only prevent worse.

That warning sign is actually from OSHA warning about toxic fumes due to an active weld
@SirAsdf7 ай бұрын
According to r/OSHA, that first sign is probably warning about fumes from Stick Welding.

Adding fiber to your diet makes you more regular, subsequently your movements smaller, and less likely to plug up the pipes.

"Thank god for cell phones right?" No because where those emergency phones are, THERE'S NO MOBILE SIGNAL. At all. THAT'S WHY THEY'RE THERE. Mobiles are useless in the sticks where you're likely to have an emergency!! The wind MIGHT blow in the right direction for 000.4 of a second to give you one bar but that's not enough time to hit Call. I've lived out here my entire life, ask me why I didn't get my first mobile until I was 16 when all my town/city classmates had one a decade prior?

Out of curiosity, what influence would the wind have on cell signal? Like... At all?
@Roadent12416 ай бұрын
@@dominiklehn2866 Moves the trees apart enough to let a femtosecond of signal through from my experience, since I live amongst hills and if I dangle out of my rooftop window and wait for ten minutes, I might get a split second of signal when it's blowing in an exact direction. And that's it for an hour. I've been dealing with this for half my life, so that's the conclusion I've come to. Only had blips, so when it's once a day for maybe a second you don't get to come up with anything because the signal is being blasted from a mile away. It's a thing on the air. Why wouldn't the wind affect it? So if you're in the desert with no hills and trees to block anything, wind probably won't have as much effect because it's not battling anything. You'll have plenty of signal to call for help! Out here we can't without setting off a fire or screaming for an hour if the physical phone lines go down. That's how a farmer got rescued at Christmas a decade ago. Just kept screaming.

9:13 - I have randomly committed these to my memory - ‘Die Fliege ist am der Tafel - the fly is on the table’ and ‘Der Hund ist auf der Straße - the dog is on the road’ - phrases I learnt in German classes at High School way back in 1981 ! Why I remembered these two and no others is beyond me ! I dropped German and took Italian in 1983 !
