I remember there was a glitched spot in the first Chao Garden in the GameCube version (at least) that let you jump dash out of the invisible wall surrounding the world. You were then able to "fly around" as sonic or shadow outside of the modeled area and even outside the skybox, like you did. It was super cool back then.. and for some reason the chao bugged out when you did this and fell underground :,)

3:38 I may be wrong, but I think I know why those trees are there. The skybox actually follows where the player goes. If you move the camera way out and continue moving the character, you'll see that it moves with them, so things that look like a low draw-distance are actually things clipping through the sky. Those trees are probably a part of the level, but you just haven't gotten there yet so they're outside the skybox.

Duuuuude The thing about cutscenes actually being "projected" into a 3D environment and not just being regularly played is blowing my mind Is this still true today or is that just something they did in older games ? @@youtubeminute4388 Some do, some don’t. For example Portal 2 doesn’t but in Bendy and the Ink Machine a lot of the cutscenes are projected. If you want a smooth transition into the gameplay go with models, if you’re looking to save memory and make your game run smoother try projecting.

TONS of trippy, scary and pretty stuff to look at, and that was just with in game glitching. The MASSIVE Hanging Waters level would be the most epic I think. The Chao garden is actually super easy to see yourself, at least on the GC version. All you do is repeatedly bounce as Sonic using the bracelet on a soft invisible wall near the rocks. He'll jump out and float as far as you want to take him, even outside the skybox. When you return your Chao will be confused and swimming/drowning under the grass. Was one of my favourite things to do in SA2 as a kid. Me and my friend discovered it by accident and were delighted. This series really recaptures some of that feeling!

I can't remember exactly where, but in one of those big square rooms where you walk around the perimeter, there's actually a hole in the ceiling that leads to the room where the boss fight with Shadow against B-3x HOT SHOT immediately after the stage takes place. As far as I can remember, the ground's all there too so you can walk around it just fine. I find it really cool that the boss room actually exists within the level itself.
