Skip bars and don’t worry if you don’t have a tailgate. Just walk up to anyone and you’ll be welcomed with open arms. Everyone treats each other like family. The RV’s giant screen TVs the food drinks and shenanigans will blow your mind. It’s a night game though so remember to pace yourself. Different than NFL and way better.

@@Shibby. Yes, ALWAYS skip bars....too loud, too expensive, too crowded. Just hang out overnight in the parking lot and party till the sun comes up! Many people on the back side lot by the Arboretum and Law School building pitch tents. You can't even tell there is anybody back there from Park Avenue. Then you can order pizza delivered at 4 AM on Sunday morning with Breakfast from The Original Waffle Shop later at 8. Continue with some Mimosa's then drive back Sunday night after crashing from a 30-hour Football Weekend Binge!! (Rinse, REPEAT, NEXT WEEKEND!.....football game or not! LOL) One of these decades WE ARE....going to grow up....... nah, that sounds boring!

I didn’t get to join u guys for the Washington/white out game, but very happy you had a good time! Just want to discount what the producers said about the sanctions and Sandusky scandal. Neither the Uni nor Paterno was charged for the 2 incidents on campus that were part of the case. In both, they were reported to the Athletic Director and Police Administrator… which is exactly the NCAA process. None of the charges the retired coach was convicted on… were located on campus. Also, the sanctions were eventually reversed, and most of the fines returned to PSU.

4:11 Look into the story of John Cappelletti. Heisman Trophy winner, went on to play in the NFL with the Los Angeles Rams. The back story, though, is the relationship between John and his kid brother, Joey Cappelletti. While John was playing towards the Heisman Trophy and the College National Championship, Joey was suffering from Leukemia. When John accepted the award, he gave a speech about his brother and the fight he was in with the disease. He dedicated the trophy to Joey, leaving the banquet hall in tears. Joey died from leukemia at the age of 13. They made a TV movie about it back in the 1970s called "Something for Joey" starring Marc Singer as John Cappelletti. Here is the speech: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpfcq2tnq7CIec0

The We Are chant started in 1948 when they went to the Cotton Bowl they two black players on the team their opponent at the time didn’t want to play with those players and couldn’t stay at the same team they ended up telling them No they said who are you their response was We Are Penn State
@jonpalmer450
@jonpalmer450 4 ай бұрын
A lovely myth, based on things that were said when the team was refusing to play in Texas unless they all could play. But, unrelated at the time the chant was really created. Somewhere along the line, the chant was retrofitted into the Cotton Bowl story. According to PSU historian Lou Prato, the We Are chant at games didn't start until September 1976, after PSU cheerleaders who had been looking for a crowd participation chant similar to OSU's O-H-I-O had watched a USC football game on TV where the crowd chanted "We Are SC!!" repeatedly, and from what they heard in the 2 chants, the cheerleaders came up with the idea of doing it as a back-and-forth "We Are"..."Penn State", instead of all together, repeated quickly like "We are SC!! We are SC!! We are SC!!"

Let me clear something up he got wrong. Under Pennsylvania State law, back then, If allegations of that nature happened at a STATE school, the ONLY person on campus who was allowed to notify the police was the head of the school. As for Paterno , he was told second hand of an incident, very vague and lacking details. He followed the rules and state LAW and reported to university leadership. As for Sandusky, most of his victims happened when he was retired and working on campus for a charity, not under the control of the football program, OVER a decade ago prior to allegations being reported. After two years of senseless and unwarranted sanctions against the current football team who were like 8 years old when Sandusky committed those crimes, the NCAA came to their senses, dropped the sanctions and returned back all the wins they took away and players who played in those games. Paterno is the all time winningest coach of DIV 1 college football. Therefore, he had a huge target on his head and when the allegations surfaced, instead of pointing the finger at the university top leaders , they attacked 70 year old Paterno, the coach. What happened was shameful, but it was a CRIME , but not a football infraction. It had been a professor and not a former football defensive coach, they would have blamed the university, not the professor's department. It was shameful the way the media treated Joe .
@etommy13
@etommy13 4 ай бұрын
Let me clear something up YOU got wrong. Joe Paterno ABSOLUTELY knew what was going on and covered it up. They had been covering it up for years. Joe Paterno failed the most BASIC of moral tests and there is NO state law that says only one person at a state run university can report child abuse. Fuck outta here with that bullshit. - PSU Alum
@jonpalmer450
@jonpalmer450 4 ай бұрын
Actually, if it had been a professor instead of a retired assistant coach, they wouldn't have blamed the university. They would have blamed the trained professionals who were running the charity that was responsible for those kids, who would have been the most qualified to recognize red flags that should have been looked into.
@jonpalmer450
@jonpalmer450 4 ай бұрын
ALSO: I would hardly call what happened with the NCAA after they were embarrassed in court as "coming to their senses." I'd say the NCAA was beaten and embarrassed in court to the point that they had no choice but to right the wrong they committed against the school, Coach Paterno, and all current and former players at the time.

6:20 The reason they changed the name from "Paternoville" to "Nittanyville" is the sex abuse scandal involving Asst. Coach Jerry Sandusky. Sandusky was convicted of sexually abusing underage boys on campus, in the locker rooms, etc. Up to that point, head coach Joe Paterno was a legend, not only at Penn State but throughout college football. He claimed he had no idea what was happening, but, while Sandusky was sent to prison, "Joe Pa" stepped down from coaching, in disgrace, and passed away in 2012. All mention of him, including statues in his honor, were removed. It's taken quite a while for the football program to recover.
@jonpalmer450
@jonpalmer450 4 ай бұрын
Just stop. Coach Paterno was a convenient scapegoat for a lazy media, thirsty to knock off someone so well respected instead of focusing on the actual criminal in the case. He DID NOT step down at ALL. He was wrongly fired by the PSU board of trustees as soon as the charges against Sandusky became public, in a very flawed P.R. decision that fed into the false media narrative. The BOT thought it would satisfy the justified anger of the public over what Sandusky was being charged with -- despite no evidence that Paterno did anything wrong. Unfortunately, the lung cancer diagnosed just weeks later took him so fast he never got to defend himself. His televised funeral and memorial services on campus were attended by an arena full of VIPs from his life. Thousands of people took off work to line the streets for the funeral procession. No, "all mention" of Paterno has not been removed. Kids still go to the Paterno Library every day at Penn State, the rare school with a library named for the financial contributions of a football coach while the football stadium is named for a university president. Crowds still erupt during games when old video of Coach Paterno shows on the jumbo screens. Runners and walkers still gather at the stadium every year for the Paterno Family Beaver Stadium Run to make money for Special Olympics. It is easy to find vehicles driving around PA (and coming to games from surrounding states) with little stickers on the back of their cars with his initials, "JVP" or "409" for his record of most wins ever by a major college coach, and most wins at the same school. Claims that "it's taken quite a while for the football program to recover" are nonsense. They actually WON the Big Ten championship in 2016 and have been consistently winning 10 or 11 games a season most years since then. Their attendance is always among the top 4 in the country, and PSU is one of just a handful of self-sufficient Division 1 athletic programs that don't lose money and don't use money from the school's general fund -- almost exclusively from football revenue.

You might need to hop back into your time machine and set it for 2024. Because it has been a long time since that airport could only handle small planes. The runways were extended for commercial jets many years ago, along with their own air traffic control tower. It can't handle the jumbo commercial jets. But it can handle most of the rest. Also, how many OTHER Big Ten schools have won the conference even once in those 34 years? 2x? 3x? 4x? Nobody is claiming that PSU was the BEST over that period. But they are definitely better than most. Which is why 110k people will pack into that "erector set" you are whining about for almost every game.
