@@CosmicCat23 Fair. I think a lot of country gets shafted in the mainstream because it carries a lot of southern ideals. It seems like modern "country" music is just country-flavored pop music. That's why finding music like this is like finding diamonds in a coal mine.

The opening verse hits me deep. I've resented God for getting a taste of my dreams, only to have it ripped away. I've tried to pursue those dreams in the last 10 years and I can't even get close. I know I got no one to blame but myself, but I still feel like it was just a giant trick and the only reason I got to live my dream for such a short time, was only so it would hurt this many years later. Quite the opposite message of "better to have loved and lost, than never loved at all."

@addiechim239 thanks for the encouragement. Probably should've added that it turned out to be the Devil, who knew how to twist the knife. In my recent time, I've turned back to God and seen through the Devil's tricks. I use my testimony to encourage others, who experience hopelessness and grief. Should've clarified all this in my original comment but glad to say I know God is in control and every storm I go through, is to make me better. It hurts like Hell but there's a reason for it. Growth involves pain. If you are always comfortable, you're never growing.

The end of this video truly supports the meaning of this video. The way that the camera looks over the city, which were becoming a thing as humans and life started to evolve and become more complex, then also how Colby lights a cigarette, and how the camera keeps rolling passed the vineyard, as us humans have made our own sinful pleasures ourselves, and also as the sirens were going off, almost as a signal of trouble and sin, and then the distant silence, as if nobody is looking around at the world and what's happening to it. It's really no wonder why the Devil always stays in Hell, because this WORLD even frightens him.

Now if only you could see just what you didn't conceive when you chose to proceed with another praise-laced disease the addiction to things you've been conflicted and this is only but my conviction to help you also when I listen but hear the deepest sound lost lamb yelling wolf's howl "I'm the heaviest crown" so take another look around the soft quiet killing spree you gave to another man's town when the morrow light dims night lights down you'll see just how bright hellfire flames can spark in my town for amongst us there are also those of you who choose to listen with deaf ears to blind men's simple decisions made loud

Listening to this after i lost my mom in may, and drunk as shit now while puking and hearing the lyrics i get what you're saying. There's no meaning to the devil you're referring to other than what we deal with day by day. It can be literally anyone you deal with in life, including yourself, ill try to remember this more as i move forward in life

Walking, breathing, experiencing this century is really put into perspective for me through this song. We've bastardized the idea of "freedom" and live in a society capable of anything for self-gratification

I came over from just the song version here on KZbin and before I heard the song I noticed the comments were turned off. At first I thought it was strange, then I seen when it came out and thought "hmm this should be pretty good..." And it didn't disappoint. Just cryptic enough to hurt some feelings, but not too obvious to where it is deemed hate speech. Good song brother.

One, two, three, four If I were the devil, first thing that'd I'd do Is I'd come off like I ever gave a damn about you I'd let you catch a peak of all your greatest desires And I'd watch the flames in your eyes burn like hellfire Find all the wolves in the land And I'd make them fight each other Tooth and nail and hand to hand Find all the sheep, make 'em stir up the pot 'Cause once the wolves have killed each other Sheep are what I want The devil walks among us, friends, I know this is true And I don't know if he's red, and I don't know if he's blue One thing that I know, we need to take a look around If I were the devil, this world would be my playground As I place that thorny crown on my furrowed brow Well, I'd shine in all the tears of joy, yellin' from the crowd I'd want to brainwash some parents, and I'd have the world I'll be in every schoolhouse lecturin' little boys and girls The devil walks among us, friends, I know this is true And I don't know if it's me, and I don't know if it's you But one thing that I know, we need to take a look around If I were the devil, this world would be my playground Mmm Mmm, mmm, mmm For my final act, I'll tell you what'd it'd be I'd have everyone so medicated, they could never see My cloven hooves or horned head would be all disguised And the best part of it all is they'd comply with their demise The devil walks among us, friends, I know this is true And I don't know if it's me, and I don't know if it's you One thing that I know, we need to take a look around If I were the devil, this world would be my playground If I were the devil, this world was mine to see Well, I'd witness all the atrocities, and it'd probably frighten me So I'd run back home with a story to tell I'd tell all my demon friends that I always preferred Hell

Nathan, I've listened and I see where this comes from, but I think that's just his twang. However, at the very end before the last verse, it sounds like he said "this world wouldn't be" intentionally, so maybe he does say it the very last time. Although, as I said earlier, may just be the country twang.
