I think there’s a clear difference between writing an obituary of someone, with verifiable facts within it, versus lsitening to Dave’s opinion of what is good or not. For me I generally don’t really care what his opinion of things are but that’s mostly just because we have a different taste.

Corny, gotta tell you, I'm 63+ and an old-school wrestling fan. I was raised in the Midwest so naturally I hated Bobby Heenan the most, but you came the closest to matching that hatred (via GCW on TBS). Blassie, Albano, Grand Wizard, Gary Hart, Jimmy Hart, Lord Al Hayes, Big K, JJ Dillon - bless their hearts all - none came close to Heenan until you. I enjoy your podcasts, never miss them (although I generally go for the snippets these days). Keep up the good work and a joyous holiday season to you and your'n! Oh, and a Happy Hanukkah to Brian as well.

Every style can have it's place on a good wrestling card. Where it gets tiring today is the lack of diversity which is ironic because WWE and aew are all about inclusiveness. I'll take an old school card with squash matches and an absurd character or two over the bland predictability of modern wrestling. I respect the athleticism, it's the best it's ever been, but there are no modern singular industry changing wrestlers. It's gotten so micromanaged and predictable that no one stands out.

Yeah thats quite a bit. I did include celebrities but those that were worthy, being that Im an old school fan since 1986 I thought Id be good at booking this. However despite asking for committee involvement of fellow wrestling facebook friends (close friends and wrestling followers) I end up being the only one that selected. When they started adding people who were still active it started becoming pointless. Surely a hall of fame induction is supposed to be for an acknowledgement of your career whether it be from winning loads of championships or the drawing power you had or even the significance you had for a specific period or because you revolutionised something long term. Getting voted in because people have liked your matches in recent years shouldn't be a thing.

@@whisperienced Jim has that old school mindset. Which isn't entirely a bad thing. One of the best wrestling historians. However while I can agree with him in regard to the Russos, Meltzers, Young Bucks, and Joey Ryan. There are a lot of things he is unable to see. It's impossible to overstate what a big star Big Daddy was in the UK in the 80s. He was on every major kid's TV show regularly, always drew massive crowds - he was the equivalent of Hulk Hogan or El Santo over here. Made it funny when I first heard Dynamite Kid talking about what a POS he was 15 years later and how much he actually hated kids. Daddy should go into the Hall of Fame though purely based on the amount of business he generated at his peak.

Halls of fame come with an inherent problem. Anyone who was active before said hall was started is less likely to get in. And as the time since their period of activity gets longer and longer, their chances get less and less. Unless you have a MASSIVE inaugural class where basically anyone from before your time who conceivably could be in is put in, you're never gonna get them all in.

The balance of serious wrestling and fun/legit well done comedy in wrestling has been in a weird limbo for years. It's great to be engaged in a serious match, but it's also a relief when you see the comedic moments performed well, giving some levity to the card. I hope the balance is restored, so everybody gets great matches in the next year. I have hope.

Jim and Brian have a good point about a lot of voters being uneducated in history. Maybe Dave could do a better job of educating them. But it shouldn’t be all on him, he’s not the only historian around. Jim and Brian should campaign for Siegel and for whoever else they consider an oversight. Write articles advocating for so and so and ask Dave to publish them in her newsletter.
