I just binged on 3.5 episodes of Powerrr... It's a fun, kitschy nostalgia act, but the very fact of doing this ironic retro show makes everyone in it look like a small time guy. Aldis is the only one who presents like a major league wrestler. The rest is everything Corny claims to hate about AEW: spotfest cosplay ironic bullshit from people with no physiques. The only difference is that if you look away for a second you'll miss a match and 3/4 of them have that Southern Fried thicc boi look that Corny has an erection for.

Why doesn’t ppl understand that Cornette is not a hater, he’s just fighting to protect the purity of the business that is PROFESSIONAL wrestling? And who made Melter the judge and jury of wrestling? He clearly has a personal bias against WWE and WWE style of in ring wrestling. Rarely gives them credit for anything while loving everything Indy (and poisoning the fan base in the process). If you want a 5⭐️ match all you need is not be WWE main roster (NXT is developmental and resembles Indy style wrestling), have a match over 30-45 min long, have about 20+ false finishes (most are kicking out of finishers), and no selling dangerous high spots.

Lagana presented Turner with a studio format complete with a sketch of the set we see today. Turner never called back. We don't know for a fact that AEW has exclusivity with Turner. I don't think Marko should be working actual matches. He should be the mascot / manager for the Jurassic Express and cause distractions and take bumps. I do have to defend them though because they didn't have Marko beating on the Lucha Bros. He wasn't giving a gut kick then hitting a DDT. The Lucha Bros threw him around then he'd shift in midair and use the momentum to hit a DDT. He did a couple spots like that and a few top rope spots/dives until he got caught and got smashed. If Luchasaurus hadn't gotten hurt, Marko would not have been in that match.

The defense of "Oh it's over" is ALWAYS applicable to pro wrestling. What the fuck are you talking about? If it makes money, that's all that fucking matters. Now, there are multiple ways to make money - sometimes what's good for the short-term can kill the long-term potential or lead to diminishing returns and it remains to be seen if that will be the case with AEW, but the whole point of professional wrestling is to get over. If the crowd cheers everything or loves everything, so fucking what? As long as they cheer when they're supposed to cheer and boo when they're supposed to boo, that's all that matters, and if they wont play along and boo Jericho because he's a legend now, well that sucks but at least they're still making noise and the noise should be representative of their likelihood of opening their wallets and shelling out cash for AEW gimmicks. People keep overthinking this wrestling thing - it's blood simple, you're selling a finish and as long as the finish sells and doesn't fuck up the long game then everything else is fine. People - Jimbo here included - keep making the mistake of thinking pro wrestling is this monolithic industry. They're dead fucking wrong. It's not the same "community" it's not the same market - the only thing that links disparate niches is sometimes talent and sometimes the fans and that's it. What goes on in a little ho-dunk backyard mud show in Michigan hardly affects what's going on in Japan which hardly affects what goes on in the WWE - the AEW market is its own thing, with largely its own audience, which means what gets over in AEW might not work outside of AEW - but as long as it does in that little bubble - and is sustainable - then nothing else matters as far as AEW is concerned.

Meanwhile I think I’ve seen ONE match with spears and Tully Blanchard since all out... ONE!! it makes no sense. It’s a legitimate criticism. Meanwhile NXT has grown in excitement each week. That heel turn by Balor was great. His promo this week was great. The AEW title contract sign segment was great and had some other great segments. But that rick n morty thing had cringe levels over 9000. I mean if the young bucks brought about 9 kids in the ring and spent 8 minutes doing fortnite dancesTHAT would not have been as cringe. Lol

many wont say it but you said it...that's right. many now take his word for gospel of wrestling due to ppl over glorifying his knowledge as a fan which is what he was and still is, through time. its the reason why on aew someone is going to get severely hurt doing so called " strong style" or eccentric lucha maneuvers. you have some of it in wwe, but its not done excessive in every single match not counting a plancha every match. years ago guys i worked with in the ring weren't that small, well, not like now. however, they could do moves like that but didn't due to knowing it could fuck them up over time and saved it for "high spots" or a go home set up. something done special to make it seem special. not like now where almost everything is being done and its too excessive. ffs even a super kick is as common as a arbar. there is more mediocrity now then ever in pro wrestling due to the fact of the let everybody wrestle this way it gets the guy training money. instead of saying hey, grow more. gain weight, work out, no its not said due to hurting feelings in a pc world..

Jim should really have figured out that this marketplace has niches by now. All I get out of this video is, "Someone doesn't agree with me and this makes me frustrated." - AEW is a bubble, pro-wrestling isn't monolithic. This facade of a "war" between WWE and AEW is hardly a tangible reality. AEW has their fans, their little gimmicks that get over - WWE has a stale product - Japan keeps doing its thing - the high-tier indies keep doing their thing - the little ho-dunk mudshows in Michigan will keep doing their thing - all of which have different caveats to what gets over and results in sustainable business and the only thing which links any of these disparate spheres is - some times - talent and also sometimes there's a bit of fan overlap. That's it - pro-wrestling is not just "pro-wrestling" any more. It's segmented. So why the fuck is Jim so pissy about AEW? 1) That's how he makes his money. What else would he talk about if he wren't angry at something - being angry is his fucking gimmick. 2) Corny doesn't realize how segmented the product has truly become - there is no single "direction" the industry is headed in anymore. Marketing is done to niches - there is no wrestling "community" - get your head in the fucking game already. You don't talk about shit like MLW or NWA - even though they're niches which you would find perfectly fine compared to something "offensive" like AEW - even though mentioning these products would potentially give them more exposure, because unless you're angry and frustrated no one will care what you have to say - that's sad as hell. Corny keeps tonguing the tender cavity in his mouth and getting frustrated when it results in a sharp pain. Stop watching it, motherfucker, that's all you have to do - but you wont, see 1). If you don't like rocky-road and prefer strawberry, then order strawberry, you fruity bastard. Nobody is forcing rocky-road down your throat. People talking about how much they enjoy rocky-road is not forcing it on you, that's just people talking about shit they like. If you're angry over that, understand there's no appeal to authority that will make your counter-argument any more legitimate or illegitimate than their argument - because it's all a matter of personal taste. Their rocky-road will not sully your strawberry. If you're frustrated because more people aren't ordering strawberry, then your frustration is entirely your own doing and there's nothing you can do about it because ice cream is best enjoyed and not picked a part to death. Get the fuck over it.

@@oodatooitis6714 You're misunderstanding me I think - Cornette isn't correct about the business - the fact he's being a pissy curmudgeon DOES in fact make him wrong in this case, because he's shitting on things like AEW because he's trying to work to his audience, ignorant willfully or otherwise to the reality of the business today - in which something like AEW has its niche and isn't harmful to the wider industry as a whole. And no, me ranting DOES hold water because while he's paid for his rants - I am not. I'm doing it because - as someone who deals inside the industry - I feel he's incorrect in his appraisal and he spreads false understanding of the business today. Whether he does that because it's his gimmick or he does it without realizing he's wrong (which I have a hard time believing because he's an intelligent guy) remains to be seen. I know that Corny will never read this, but I have said this before about Meltzer. Who needs his blessing for any match? Meltzer has done nothing but state the obvious for years, but now with everyone pretty much in the loop due the internet, Meltzer is obsolete. Sure he was a big deal way back when before the internet. Now, he just stammers and his tounge bumbles over his teeth whenever he talks about whatever subject. But whatever he is talking about, he states the obvious. Thats all he does. Anyone that pays attention can do that. Sure, he is awesome with numbers and stats as far as ratings and money goes, but who really cares about that? Fan wise, who cares? Corny, as you told us many times about Russo, I am telling you about Meltzer. He is a bandwagon jumper so his hardcores stay with him and he doesnt lose subscribers and all he does is state what we all see. Read this, Corny!!!

Nobody needs his blessing for a match. But, Dave doesn't demand that either. It's an opinion and whether any of us like it or not...his opinions are something that fans and people in the industry want to read and hear about. I don't always agree with Dave on matches, but I respect his opinion. If his opinion started to become too silly and nonsensical for me...then I would stop caring about it. As far as the rest, he's hitting a niche market. He doesn't just give ratings, but he gives analysis on the news of pro wrestling. And his analysis is based on the education he's received from reporting on pro wrestling for decades as well as what he's learned from people like Paul Boesch, Larry Matsyk, Sam Mushnick and even Jim Cornette himself. It's probably not going to appeal to the regular Joe who goes to watch wrestling, but for his niche market it does appeal. And it wasn't long ago that the WCW people were complaining that Dave was a WWF/WWE bandwagon jumper. Then when WCW turned it around, he was now a WCW bandwagon jumper. He likes what he likes. And if it gets too ridiculous, then I stop caring. Until then...

Then you should take issue with Jim because Jim apparently values Meltzer's opinion so much that he has to take him to task and can't believe Dave defends AEW. Dave doesn't just state the obvious. He's very informative and that's why I read and follow his stuff. Like the time he discussed the issues with having an over babyface being a transition champion...it kills the face. It's not so obvious, but Dave mentioned he learned that from Muschnick and Matasyk and showed examples of it and Dave was right. Dave is great at explaining the point of view from the booker/writing team and the wrestlers and the TV execs and for me it's very informative. I agree, many people take whatever he says as the gospel, but that goes for anybody that has an opinion or promotes something. Just like the marks that take everything Corny says as the gospel. I love Jim to death, but I don't always agree with him and sometimes I think he's just way off base. But, he's entertaining and informative and I understand it's an opinion and I'm trying to listen to his opinion because, in the end, it's worth listening to. Same goes for Dave.

But my son who is 10 was looking on with stars in his eyes like it was the coolest thing ever. And it made me think, was Wrestling in the 80s taking itself anymore seriously? The answer is no. We pretended to believe hulk could enter a special mode where blows to his head didnt hurt him anymore and Undertaker was a dead man with special powers.
