I was 13 when I met Paul McCartney. My Uncle Peter Heine was director of advertising for Billboard Magazine. Paul and Linda were at 9000 sunset to sign the advertising agreement for Wings first album-1972. The album contained the 007 soundtrack for the movie Live and Let Die.. After Paul and Linda were introduced to me by my Uncle Peter turned to the three of us and asked if we could we keep each other company while he went down the hall and changed something on the contract. So for about 15 minutes I was left in the southern conference room with Paul McCartney and Linda Eastman. So there we were in the southern conference room at the top of 9000 Sunset making small talk and looking out the window. Peter came back Paul signed the contract and everybody said goodbye. Paul and Linda headed for the elevator. Later that day on the way home in the car my Uncle asked me what I thought of Paul and Linda? I said "They seem like regular people to me." Peter said "They are regular people with exceptional jobs." I thought Paul and Linda we're excellent company. Their manners were exceptional. That's no act that's the way Paul is. The perfect gentleman. When you meet somebody they become a person for me it was like meeting some friends of my Uncle's at his job. Hey Paul thanks for the company and thank you for the family calendar you sent me for 1973. Take care and be. well.

As a former elected official I discovered some truths: 1) The unintended consequences of well-intended pragmatic thinking gone horribly wrong when a diverse and polarized public reacts. 2) When you finally get what you always wanted you discover that you don''t like having it. As the Rollingstones sang "You can't always get what you want , but if you try some time you might find you get what you need..3) Even when you give people all that they want they want more. 4) Any law that benefits one group comes at the expense of another. 5) The Shirky Principle, "institutions will try to preserve the problem to which they are the solution." 6) Bipartisanship is a fallacy in that party 1 will give party 2 something in exchange for something else. .Its a legal form of bribery that drives up the national debt. .What it isn't is what is in the interest of a diverse and polarized public that actually solves our national [problems.

I hear you, but then I think of how clueless I was back then, & that isn’t something I’d want to relive. I wish we’d all stop aging around our late 30s, for another 20-30 yrs or so, before we’d start again. Then we could enjoy being physically youthful & strong, but also have some wisdom & experience under our belts. The trade off does suck, I admit it

Then I applied for social security and was pleasantly surprised by the amount. Then I became a grandparent and was happy to to have two grand children. Like everything in life, it's all bittersweet.
