Great writers made this show one of the best ever! My favorite Raylan line was: “Wonderful things can happen when you sow seeds of distrust in a garden of assholes.”
@James-n2t4wАй бұрын
One great writer did most of the heavy lifting - the entire JUSTIFIED Universe was created from one 60 page novella, FIRE IN THE HOLE, by Elmore Leonard. Do a 2 minute google search on Elmore Leonard and I guarantee you'll be amazed at how much of his writing has been made into TV or movies. And you'll be even more amazed by how many of the movies and TV shows deserve a place in the TOP 50 lists. Get Shorty, Out of Sight, Jackie Brown. The most amazing thing...? The books are even better than the TV/movies they made out of them. Read FIRE IN THE HOLE to see.

Looking back at this, I think lookin after Loretta somewhat prepared him for fatherhood whether he realized it or not. Also, this standoff with Hot Rod Dunham was yet another reminder of how much like his pops he was but way sharper in how he applied it. Cause rather than become a criminal like his pops, he used his life experiences to be a lawman instead. But by this point, I think he was slowly starting to get meaner.
@amrateeka3 ай бұрын
Yes, I think in many ways his relationship with Loretta was a chance for him to preserve her innocence given he had lost his at an early age due to his upbringing, which was not much different from Loretta's. Him acting as a guardian of sorts to her is also an interesting parallel to how much of a deadbeat he is throughout Season 5. At this point, his baby girl is born and he hasn't even met her yet, is actively avoiding going to Florida, has lost WInona, and is generally aimless. Also this monologue is badass.

We had a guy like Raylan growing up. Old cop. Dude was stone cold hard. Kind, but hard. They used to get together play cards, dominos, or whatever else they felt like. We used to sit around and listen to them trade war stories. One of my favorite stories of the others used to tell was how he stood ground against a bunch of dealers who had ganged up together, tried to rob the evidence van for the drugs they just seized in a bust. He got them all to surrender with another wicked line I've never forgotten. From the way it was told to us, what he said was that we're not not just cops, we're dogs, and showed them the precinct crest (sheep dogs). Before you pull the trigger and start a ruckus, remember that these dogs don't just bark. We bite, we hunt, and we run in a pack. If you don't want us on your scent for the rest of your lives, throw 'em down... and they all surrendered. The funniest part was that there were only 4 cops there that night, and there were like 9 or 10 of them. They were out manned and out gunned, but he scared them enough they surrendered. To me, that was the baddest thing I've ever heard in my life to this day.
