We've demonstated wheel lacing before. But ofsetting an existing wheel is what we have to show here.

Thanks for another wonderful video. I've got a question about air pressure in tires. I've got a hardtail sportster. 1987 I'm running 16x3.5 rear wheel with a shinko 5.00x16 and 21x2.15 with a shinko 21x3 and springer front end. What air pressure would you recommend to run in the tires. I heard I should run less pressure but how much less
@pacificmike95012 ай бұрын
You're riding a bike with a rigid frame. Less pressure in the rear tire gives you some "cush." However, less pressure more and faster wear. You'll have to experiment around and find out what you wish to live with.

You probably don't remember but I tried to true my wheel. I kept losing track of where I was in the process. After about 80hrs i decided to ship it to Bucannes. I would love to know how to true a wheel. There are not many people around here that can do it within .010 both ways.

Hey Mike! My post has nothing to do with your current video, it was just the latest one and I figured I'd have a better chance of you seeing it rather than going back in time. That being said this post is in regards to a video you did about packing the late model sealed wheel bearings , you packed a set when you did your buddies wheel and was commenting on the lack of grease you found when you opened it up. Let me also say I'm a admirer of old school HD mechanics. I grew up with one that taught me since I was 16, I'm now 64. I thought the same thing you did/do in regards to the more grease the better but I'm seeing several conflicting opinions when it comes to these sealed bearings. I've seen several reputable mechanics say that you should not pack those sealed bearings full, that you should only use a sparce amount of grease in these and to not pack them full. I included a link to a short video on this topic for you to watch. Hopefully you will have the time to do so and comment back on this. I'm torn as to which is correct. I do respect your opinion very much. This is just one link but I've seen several lately on this subject and if you took the time to check these individuals you'll find that they are like yourself very reputable mechanics.kzbin.info/www/bejne/np2klZiIfd-Fl7csi=BH1_0LPp6Z07Dn8O kzbin.info/www/bejne/np2klZiIfd-Fl7csi=BH1_0LPp6Z07Dn8O kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4W7qJmoZt6Xpbcsi=9Zc_soJjXIqjiygn kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4W7qJmoZt6Xpbcsi=9Zc_soJjXIqjiygn kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4W7qJmoZt6Xpbcsi=9Zc_soJjXIqjiygn
Thank You. I think I'll look it over. I think, after that, I'll adapt things over to regular old Timkens.
@dkelley19592 ай бұрын
@@pacificmike9501 Sounds like a good idea to me, I prefer them to the sealed bearings, think they are a much better set up, as long as you get the end play set up properly, they last forever with a little bit of maintenance. HD didn't change to sealed because they're better, just easier to use on a assembly line. I'll take the Timkens any day of the week!

excess heat and dirt are the main causes of bearing failure. some say too much grease causes more heat...

Hey Mike, I got a very noticeable clicking noise in the topend of my 1981 Shovel. Got good compression and no noise from the crankcase so Valves and everything below should be ok. The pushrods are adjusted just right I think. Where should I start and what is the correct Oil pressure for coldstart with 20w50?
@pacificmike95012 ай бұрын
Don't worry about oil pressure. If you have good circulation, you're good. With the motor running, look in the oil tank and see that the oil is returning to the tank. That's what you need to know. You can get numbers out of your service manual, but, circulation is what you need. You seem to know where your sound is at, so, maybe time to look inside. The fist place would be the front exhaust lifter which may not be oiling properly. It is the last lifter to receive oil and runs at the worst angle causing the worst effort which occurs at that point. Other than that, what's been done lately? Use a long skinny screwdriver as a listening stick to locate that sound. Could be a lot of different things.
@friedrichabsmaier4802Ай бұрын
I solved the problem. It came from the front lifters. Instead of setting the lifters 4 turns down I went after the book and screwed them down till the lifter is fully compressed then I went 1 1/2 turns up to give it some play. Important for me was to suck out all the oil from the lifterblock when I had the lifters out. The oil inside prevented the lifters from filling up completely and that was were the noise came from. Thank you anyway for what you do. That inspired me and a lot of other guy too I think. Keep it up!
