The best on THAT movie was it reinvented well the two Classics also titled THE MUMMY from 1932 and 1959 you are right. Best was Rachel Weisz she played the early twenty century-woman perfectly well to the point. Her habitus in the movie reminded me at my grandmother´s born in 1897. Hence I could tell the modern day acrress really is a great one in her business. 2:07 Fun Fact to all not so familliar with Peter Cushing. He also had played the Grand Moft Tarkin in STAR WARS IV. But best known he had been for his roles on British TV as the type of the loveable family father and the absent minded professor in several series and movies That way I remember him since youth so it had been a thrill for me to see the actor in those action roles later on in my life. But poor Imhotep what has he done to deserve this. The biographical Imhotep had been the Lord Chanclor of Pharao Djoser twothousandsevenhundred years before Christ. He also had been a great architect constructing the first pyramid for Djoser stlil a tourist magnet in Egypt AND most of all he had been a great physician. It is said the Asculapius staff really had been his idea also the Oth of Hyppocrates had been from him, just that the Greeks traded it on. Hence the historical man had been in old Egypt the patronsaint of all physicians. So the real Imhotep had more in commen with Leonardo da Vinci as with your classical bad guy. Just to put facts and fiction in perspective.

Love this movie then, love this movie now. Cast had great chemistry together. One of my favorite bits is the relationship between Evie and Jonathan. You get to see how they're used to one another in the museum and then the jail scene. "You lied to me." "I lie to everyone." "But I'm your sister." "That just makes you more gullible." Jonathan then gets punched in the face by O'Connell and goes down. Evie looks down at him, then just steps over him, slightly tripping on his body as she does. Hilarious.

I worked for a couple of years for a guy who looked just like Benny, he was just as disreputable tbh. I still have a huge affection for this film. Also guys I feel you are being a little hard on Evie, the whole point of her charachter and the reason she opens the book, reads from it and so on is not because she's stupid, but because she's a rationalist and has no belief whatsoever in the supernatural and therefore she has to read from the book for the benefit of archaeoligical knowledge if you take this view of Evie her actions make complete sense.

Did so love this one and the 2nd one...with all the mystery and romance and envelopment of Ancient Egypt. The artifacts and scenery are fabulous. And everyone is at their best to put you in that era and place. Oded Fehr is indeed a massive presence in both of the films. John Hannah is perfec in his role but does it even better in the 2nd one at having a tad more...feeling for his family and not so much for his pocket book. Love Love Love Evie...was gobsmacked when she was replaced in the 3rd film as the way she and Rick seem to naturally belong together and the actors just fit the roles and blend so very well was drastically compromised. Rick and that other one ...didn't mesh atal. I truly love the way they expanded on the role of Imhotep in the 2nd film and the effects were just as cool. I did notice that there was no blood save from when John Hannah gets sliced with a knife...but that is due to the younger audience tuning in I think. Wish Brendon Frasier would have done more movies of this type as I feel they are defo his strong suit and as much as I like Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones...would certainly watch Brendon's even more. These movies made me fall in love with atmosphere and era that was Ancient Egypt. Even though I know alot of those times...not so great to actually be there. So glad you did this one guys--love your reviews -totally addictive

love this film. Fraser deserves a huge comeback. He's a true talent. I love the first two films, even if the sequel missed a trick in not using Imhotep as a terminator 2 and making him a hero. His goals match the protagnists. If they made him a good guy, the film coulda been amazing. Sure he wants his girlfriend back, but the reencarnated version seemed cool with it, so having her back wouldn't have harmed anyone. Make the finale, Imhotep and the O-Connells vs the Scorpion King coulda been awesome. Its like what i always thought about Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice. One rewrite by a true fan of the characters and it could work, and not just work, be brilliant. Also. Fuck Benny. Also a family friend of mine claims he slept with Rachel Weisz. Personally, i don't believe it for a second. He was a 50 year old alcoholic. Don't believe a word he says.

Yes! I remember this movie coming out and reading about the special effects and the revisitation of the Mummy in Empire Magazine. I’ve always had a soft spot for this film. And my wife loves them as fun, slightly tongue in cheek adventures. Diminishing returns on the sequels though. The Mummy 3 is terrible, infact an utter betrayal of key character’s traits and growth. Evelyn, for example is a bit of a wet blanket, no wonder Weisz declined the role. In the final CGI battle extravaganza we actually left the cinema cos the film just felt soulless. This one is great though, Sommers before the autumn of his career? Plus Rachel Weisz :)

I prefer the 1932 film much more, though the one GOOD scene in the 1999 remake is the scene between when the newly risen Imhotep wakes up and encounters Benny and Benny tries to make him go away with various religious items. I like how NONE of them work, but the minute Benny speaks in Hebrew, Imhotep recognizes it and says "The language of the slaves" - that moment gives me chills up my spine.

25:47 this is where I think the 2nd movie made a small mistake in the threatening level of the mummy. Because they actually show you how he consumes his victims, on screen. It looks stupid and takes the scaryness away. The 1st movie never truely showed you, leaves it to your imagination how he does it, and only shows you either reactions of witnesses or aftermatches. The closest we got is the blonde american, who's sillhouette on the wall gives you a glimpse of what is happening, and it's wáy more effective and horrifying. And indeed, also with the last american. The movie cuts to Bennie, and shows you his horrified reaction, along with only the sounds and screams of the american. Wáy more scary. Show, don't tell. But sometimes, dont even show. :)
