Whenever I think of Dan O Bannon I think of Lifeforce, Alien, Return of the living Dead, Total Recall, and Invaders from Mars (1986). Dan is greatly missed and he wrote and made some wonderful films that will live on. The Resurrected looks like a cool film that’s worth checking out.

Best and most underrated Lovecraft adaptation of the man's longest work. I strongly recommend the novella; it's a weird slow burn read.

So glad to see someone covering this film! I agree totally about some of the flaws and shortcomings that hold it back from being really great, but overall i love the story and Chris Sarandon's performance is what really sells it. Cheers!

2:38 What makes this film good is that it is not a comedy. "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward," chilled me to the bone. Because I understood what Lovecraft was intimating.

Nice review, mates. I'm glad you gave this film the love it deserves. Notwithstanding a few technical drawbacks & liberties it takes with its source material, it's still one of the best adaptations of Lovecraft imho. Also, for me, Chris Sarandon's wild performance bumps the rating up a notch or two, as he really embodies HPL's characters & their dichotomy.

The cast of John Terry, Jane Sibbet, Chris Sarandon and Robert Romanus is not low tier. They were known and knew the craft of acting.

2:16 This painting is Saturn Devouring His Son by Francisco Goya. The deity was destined to lose to his own child so he ate them just after getting born. In the myth the god children were actually swallowed. One the kids (Jupiter/ Zeus) was saved by fooling Saturn- he swallowed a stone given by his wife.

A good adaptation of the original novel where a contemporary setting works for the history, it have convincing and cool effects but the focus is in the narrative and characters and the casting have actors that give good performances, however indeed the editing is strange and wonder how was the original vision of the director

In the original story, spoilers, the reanimated Merlin travels to Transylvania to do battle with an alchemist that spent almost 300 years in a mountain castle creating an army of vat grown trans human super soldiers. The mountain did not survive. Here is the fun of Lovecraft, none of that is on the page, it is pieced together via letters, news paper articles and researching EVERY person and book mentioned in The Curious Case of Dexter Ward. Good old Howard would rather have you do homework on subjects he finds interesting than explain anything.

In the original story one of the founding fathers of the U.S. plus 89 other men did battle with a summoned other dimensional entity in the vast underground complex. An because this was a Lovecraft story 100% of everything we know about that ground shaking, weather altering, energy spewing inter dimensional conflict comes from someone who was above ground, in a cabin, hiding under the bed with 10 other guys.
