Ultimately it's almost every old-time fan's favourite. It's been my favourite album ever since around 1988 when I started buying music. There will never be a better album in my opinion (and I do sincerely rate - outside Queen - Sgt. Pepper, Dark Side of the Moon and others in the top ten...). You don't get musicians and bands like those anymore. Queen 2 is the pinnacle of what could be done in a studio with non-digital equipment.

So Freddie and his Sister(as kids) apparently wrote stories about the land of Rye, these stories became many of the songs on the first three albums. SO if you feel a narative .... thats probably from there. Queen really did not do themed albums

Brian said Freddie created this on his guitar using just downstrokes, snd "can you imagine how fast his hand was moving?". He slso said Freddie was quite good on the guitar but never gave himself credit, even doubted his own piano skills

Hi Guys. Queen I & II have been my secret treasures (Not so secret anymore) for well over 40 years.Witnessed several of the tracks performed live by the boys over the early decades. Queen 1 is in a League of it's own... However, Freddie's lyrical intonation on Queen II is simply sublime. Queen were and always will be inimitable Masters of the Universe.

Fantastic reaction guys!! Love this medley it’s so creative & mystical! The Queen II album is a fan favorite! I think NEVERMORE is one of most beautiful songs ever!! The beloved PROCESSION/FATHER TO SON/WHITE QUEEN transition is one of my favorites!! 💗 Queen used to open their concerts with PROCESSION. Queen are the master strokes of music! 🎵👑🎵👑🎵

I cannot believe that after loving this album for 33 years, that I have only just come to realise just how amazing Nevermore is. I never disliked it, no I always loved it but never appreciated it fully. I do now. That's the advancement of age and experience I suppose. It's such an amazing break up song.

Fairy Fellers Master Stroke was a painting by Richard Dadd. He painted it while in an insane asylum after killing his father. Freddie was obsessed with it and made the band go to the museum it was at and look at it. Then he wrote the song describing it. There is a good video out there showing in detail the parts of the painting that Freddie is singing about. Love it!

I think I read somewhere that Freddie also used the painting and his description for one of his art school classes.

Also, if you look at the painting from a distance, you see a face. It's a self-portrait of Richard Dadd.

Like you, I wore this Queen II album out in college in my dorm. No one else who was playing Aerosmith or Deep Purple understood what I saw in Queen. I am sure they all came around later when they became "poppier" but this old stuff was groundbreaking!

I really enjoyed hearing thes epic songs reacted to. Early Queen has many underrated gems like this. Their first album has Great King Rat, Son and Daughter, and my favorite, Jesus. All very experimental and the harmonies are wonderful evenat this early stage. Subscribed for the hope of more Queen. I liked your playing of the Battle riff.

Nice reaction, and great playing! It is good to see someone reacting to material from Queen II. Freddie did basically write a few songs that forms part of a story, the rumour is that he was writing a fantasy novel, it started right from the beginning on their debut album with, The Great King Rat and My Fairy King. Ogre Battle is part of the story, the interesting part of the song is that Freddie wrote the whole song on the guitar, which was unusual for him, some people think of it as an early example of power metal. The Fairy Feller Master-Stroke is based on the painting from Richard Dadd. The song is a description of the painting. An interesting aspect about the song is that it features a polka rhythm in some places, it is the type of song where it is almost impossible to assign a genre of music. Nevermore is just a beautiful short ballad. Queen performed Ogre Battle quite often, the live version was great and better in some aspects then the studio version, Ogre Battle live at the Hammersmith Odeon 1975 kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2aUmIV-aMl6e6c. I suggest you guys check out the medley from the Sheer Heart Attack album with Tenement Funster/ Flick Of The Wrist/ Lilly Of The Valley (Lyrics) kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpnPhGaji8mjjZI. This is a fun medley. Roger Taylor sings the first song, and Flick Of The Wrist is Freddie's first song against their management. Lilly Of The Valley is the last song that was part of Freddie's fantasy songs that takes place in the land of Rhye.

Lyrics: Ogre Battle: Aaaahhh Ah, ah, ah, ah Ah, ah, ah, ah, aaahhh Now, once upon a time, an old man told me a fable When the piper is gone and the soup is cold on your table And if the black crow flies to find a new destination That is the sign Come tonight Come to the ogre site Come to the ogre battle fight He gives a great big cry and he can swallow up the ocean With a mighty tongue, he catches flies and the palm of his hand incredible size One great big eye has to focus in your direction Now the battle is on, yeah, yeah, yeah Come tonight Come to the ogre site Come to the ogre battle fight Ah, ah, ah, ah, aaahhh The ogre men are still inside, the two-way mirror mountain You gotta keep down right out of sight You can't see in, but they can see out "Ooh, keep a lookout" The ogre men are coming out from the two-way mirror mountain They're running up behind, and they're coming all about Can't go east, 'cause you gotta go south Ogre men are going home The great big fight is over Bugle blow, let trumpet cry Ogre battle lives forevermore, oh-oh-oh You can come along You can come along Come to ogre battle Ah, ah, ah, ah, aaahhh The Fairy Feller's Master Stroke: He's a fairy feller The fairy folk have gathered 'round the new moon shine To see the feller crack a nut at night's noon time To swing his axe he swears, as he climbs he dares To deliver The master stroke Ploughman, "waggoner will" and types Politician with senatorial pipe, he's a dilly-dally-o Pedagogue squinting, wears a frown And a satyr peers under lady's gown, dirty fellow What a dirty laddio Tatterdemalion and the junketer There's a thief and a dragonfly trumpeter, he's my hero Fairy dandy tickling the fancy of his lady friend The nymph in yellow (can we see the master stroke) What a quaere fellow Soldier, sailor, tinker, tailor, ploughboy Waiting to hear the sound And the arch-magician presides He is the leader Oberon and Titania watched by a harridan Mab is the queen and there's a good apothecary-man Come to say hello Fairy dandy tickling the fancy of his lady friend The nymph in yellow What a quaere fellow The ostler stares with hands on his knees Come on mister feller, crack it open if you please Nevermore: There's no living in my life anymore The seas have gone dry And the rain's stopped falling Please don't you cry any more Can't you see Listen to the breeze Whisper to me please Don't send me to the path of nevermore Even the valley's below Where the rays of the sun Were so warm and tender Now haven't anything to grow Can't you see? Why did you have to leave me? (nevermore) Why did you deceive me? (nevermore) You sent me to the path of nevermore When you say you didn't love me anymore Ah ah nevermore nevermore

The queens' motive is "Alice behind the mirrors" from Lewis Carroll. "Fairy feller's Masterstroke" is Shakespeare's midsummer night's dream. Ogre battle is... A wild barbaric mess 😃

@@antonymugford6863 I know there was a remaster in 2011, and I think 1991 or 92 when Hollywood Records bought the catalogue. My first Queen cds were the EMI versions from the late 80's. Listening again, I think maybe the sound from the video player was recorded as mono and not stereo for the video. Still a fun reaction. Now a stupid side note. When I was a young 'un I had one of those cheap Radio Shack type portable recorders, and it only had one speaker so I had to sing the guitar parts and harmonies in my head to what I was hearing to experience the song in its full grandeur because the tape recorder would only play one channel.

I love old Queen songs, but hate peoples reactions when they hear them for the first time and are confused by the lyrics and expect me to try and explain what the hell they're about. 😄 I just love the music I don't care if there's a story behind them or not. Although it's only in the last year did i find out about the painting description FFMS. There are some videos on here which highlight the characters in it as the song plays.

If you like back to backs, may I recommend "Zombie" by "The Cranberries" followed by the cover version by "Bad Wolves".......you may need to do a little research to understand the emotions & power behind the song. I'll not spoil it by saying too much but both versions need to be heard together..........the reasons will become clear......thanx.
