Chris I am aware of that feeling when you lose a fur baby! I have gone through it but I have never had such a close companion like Kenai! I sob like a baby sometimes when I hear about others going through it because I will too someday! I end up giving Kenai a big hug and kisses. He doesn't know why but he likes it! It is amazing the pull they have on you! Unconditional love at it finest! And you can bet if I catch anything on the cameras, I will show it! Thank you so much Chris!

Please be careful! I am not saying you are not capable nor to offend you. It is just the mothering nature I have being 72! Lol! Glad you have cameras and it would be a good idea to have them the way you said on the other trail. There’s so many places definitely where you have buildings and near the water because they have to have that to survive. I’m so sorry when I hear of anyone loosing their fur babies! Definitely when you have them give them an abundance of love nurturing them. The colors are bursting everywhere! Beautiful! Ty for sharing these wonderful parts of your life! The recipe sounds delicious
@AloneinRemoteAlaska2 жыл бұрын
I could never take offense to someone telling me to be careful. I really do appreciate that! And I take nothing for granted out here. I know my property has wild animals everywhere and that pond is a major attraction for them. I always check my security cameras and physically look out all my windows before stepping out. And always step out with my side arm. Sometimes when I am walking and filming, I have my hand around the grip, just in case! Losing a pet companion is devastating. They are always by your side and then one day they aren't. It's a huge adjustment to make. Their unconditional love has a way of pulling at your heart strings when they are alive! So when they are gone, it's a deeper loss. Now that the colors are starting to change, I will try and get as much of that on video as I can! I love watching it all change and soon....it will start snowing again! It truly is an honor to have you along for my journey Jackie! Oh and try the recipe out! The first time I tried it I was hooked! Another lovely episode. I love the choice of music you use to accompany the segments. My goodness so gorgeous! I too have just started baking bread. I used Jenny Can Cook, you tube, fast no knead homemade bread. I halved the recipe, letting it rise in a cool whip container and then sprinkling a bit of flour in a large mixing bowl for the folding...no waste no mess and plenty of bread for the week. Jenny uses a Dutch oven, but I use a ceramic loaf pan with tinfoil for my toaster oven or a cast iron pan with lid over coals or stove top. I don't own a Dutch oven. I like the heels for soup and the middle for sandwiches. It's fast, easy and a good bread to have in your repoitoire.

There is this young couple that have a channel "Simple Living Alaska". They have been in Alaska for about 4-5 years. The husband Eric on one of the lastest blogs where he bought a fitting from Amazon to go on one of your propane tank about a 10 gallon and he was able to refill the disposable stove canister and when he refilled about 5 to 10 of them the fitter paid for itself. The ones he was refilling were the dark green ones. Just watching their blogs I have learned so much and I don't even live in Alaska!! If you haven't found them and their channel I highly recommend them to you. They love fishing and hunting. They tell about where you can go dip netting for salmon and which kind of salmon. How to smoke it and how to can them. They also show you how to bake on the wood stove. And they are fun to watch. I am new to your channel so I have been binge watching trying to catch up. I have really enjoyed your blog. I live vicariously through you and admit I admire you for pulling up your stakes and moving. I can't take the cold like I use to but as I said I am living vicariously through your life! So thanks for taking me a long for the ride! May God blessed you and keep you and your fur baby safe.

I do know of Eric and Arielle's channel. I have been following them since they first moved (drove) to Alaska. It was fun watching them build up that property. They are moving closer to me now. I know exactly where they are. Very nice area and a bit too pricey for me! 😉 I have that propane filler. Actually I have three of them. And they work awesome! The places to go dip netting are very well known out here. They are places that everyone in Alaska goes too 🤣 Yeah too many people for me! I am going to try a fish wheel! Now baking on a wood stove (with cast iron) is a specialty of mine! There is nothing quiet like cooking with cast iron! Somehow it just makes everything taste better! 😉 My dream of living in Alaska goes back so many years (decades even) so when I had my chance, I took it! No hesitations at all! A note about butane burners, butane does not work well below freezing so these are only good for heated spaces. However, they do sell an option with a propane attachment for the one pound propane canisters that are much better for cold areas (unheated spaces). Happy Friday Alone! It's always good to see that you have a video for my pleasure! Well, Mishka has been here for 2 weeks. She is roaming the house all day while the dogs are crated and I'm at school. She provides no service if she spends her life locked in the bathroom, so I'm letting her hunt. The kids returned on Monday, and I'm been struggling with the pressure. I think my boss figured out today that I'm not doing well - because what he's been seeing is engaged kids who are working and learning. What I've been seeing is kids who are struggling with managing their emotions when I'm not fully theirs. Two of my kiddos I call the cling wrap twins. When I'm not with them, they have behaviors - and when I was in the room this afternoon, even though I wasn't directly interacting with them, they were able to behave. That's really rare on Friday afternoons. I had my kids make homemade pizza for a snack today - and they were SO excited. We topped the pizza with home canned banana pepper rings. I think I'm going to take a nap, and then do some laundry before falling into bed tonight. I'm good at what I'm doing, and the kids like knowing that I'm always going to be consistent. I think yesterday they realized that sometimes I can't handle my emotions any better than they can. Today was better. The pups were in my face yesterday because they realized I was not doing well - they are such good therapy for me. I've got to finish some preservation in the morning before I head to the farmer's market, and then I'm sure I'll be canning all afternoon. I'll have to ask my rancher about getting the oxtail when I get my next cow - eeks! That's only a month away! Hope your week is full of joy and blessings. I've been making all homemade baked goods for many years. Once you start, you'll never go back to eating store bought. I'm to the stage that I even make my own bagels - and yes, they get boiled before I bake them.

Good to hear your new kitty has been hunting! The dogs will learn who their new boss is eventually! Cats usually just have to slap a dogs nose one or twice and that's it! I have a lot of respect for teachers! That is just one job I could never do (in a classroom setting) but it sounds like you have everything under control. Sometimes they just need that authority figure in the room to keep them in line. And you are a teacher not a robot so showing emotion keeps the kiddos grounded. And making pizza always helps! You have to make it fun sometimes! Now taking a nap before going to bed sounds like my kind of fun! Dogs and cats know when something is wrong and they only have to do so little to make us feel better again! Kenai is the same way. He will snuggle with me at just the right time and then makes me giggle like crazy! And try that ox tail soup Deb! It is SO amazing! I love it! I will be teaching myself how to bake more and you are correct! It just tastes so much better! Bagels may be something I try as well! Toasted with some cream cheese and lox! Oh dear! Thank you so much Deb and you hang in there!

Oh lady, I'm so jelly faced of you. Porcupine are rather destructive but are great eating. Bears are not the rolly polly creatures many believe they are. Your 10mm should be your EDC when outside. Ox tail soup is a welcome meal, nutritious and filling. There are many things that can go into it for a meal to satisfy even the most picky. I love the balsamic vinegar, going to be on the list for the next batch. It also cans very well, shelf stable food is a priority for me. You keep going lady, I'd say you're doing an astounding job.

Haven't made ox stew since we stopped butchering our own cows, probably 15 years ago, but it was a go to on a bitterly cold winter day with homemade bread. By the way making bread, english muffins and bagels are easier to make than you think. Wondering, ever thought of getting an ATV or Snow machine for the trails the noise I would think inhibit some of the wildlife from coming to close ( well mainly the bears.) Hugs to Kenai. I hope your grocery shopping goes okay. Nice produce has been hard to come by in recent weeks and canned goods have large holes in what is available. Places are putting limits on fuel canisters. I used to do infrequent large “stocking up” shopping, but now I buy when things are available. It helps that I can check local availability online before wasting gasoline. And yeah, prices are ridiculous. Funny that you mentioned English muffins, as they (and all baked goods) are now at a price that last week I looked up how to make them to make sure I have the ingredients on hand. Oh, the bears. I know someone that has a remote cabin and they use trail cams to see what happens when they are gone. The bear traffic increases come in the spring and fall as they migrate to and from their hibernation spots.

No matter what, I will have what I need to make it through the winter! I have gone to many stores while doing my supply run and if I have to, I will go back another day. So good to see you again! I’m excited to see you now have the cameras. What a thoughtful surprise! Definitely well needed. I’m diggin all your scenery shots. It’s satisfies my vicarious living, especially after the week of peopling that I just had 😩 I keep meaning to ask you but, I always forget; where did you find those amazing skirts that you wear?! I feel that they are so retro, with a modern flare, and completely fit your personality! I love them! Tons of rain here lately, and quite a bit of toppled over trees due to the monsoon storms we’ve had. My backyard backs up to a river bottom, but for many many years it’s been a dry river, with a bicycling path and a horse path on either side. With all of the rains, I now have a river that is 1/3 full! With the coyotes, jackrabbits, Harris hawks, quail, and all sorts of desert life, I’m loving all of the visitors that I’m getting to see from my backyard. Sure wish I could upload pictures here on KZbin, but they’re funny about that, lol. Temperatures have been in the 90s, so I’m still happy girl! Lots of prayers from me here, to you there facing the bears! Hugs to you and kenai! 114° 🤗

Well now that I have some cameras set up, lets see what kind of wildlife I see! Or maybe I don't want to see! The skirts I have been wearing were purchased on Amazon and I plan to use them as patterns to make more as soon as all my stuff gets here! But you know me! I do like the retro look! You are still getting that much rain? Maybe all that water is making the wildlife cut across your yard? But I do hope it doesn't get too bad! We had our share of flooding here and I was lucky to not have had to worry about it at all. KZbin is funny about a lot of things in the comments. No external websites, no phone numbers, no emails and don't you dare say anything about the epidemic we just went through! Those comments get deleted immediately! (By KZbin). I hope the rains subsides a bit and you can have a more relaxing week! At 90F you are probably breaking out the winter gear!Thank you so much Janet!

Oh my goodness, I see that UHAUL 💕. Eeek, I can’t wait to hear the music. I’ve never tasted barely but that really looks good 😊. Both the gifts you received are really nice. I’ve been interested in the book you received. I was thinking recently that maybe a bread machine might be nice to have with the cost of bread. Our pets really deserve our love and attention. Take care ~ Janet 😘

My son should be here very soon! Kenai will be even more happy to see my son though! Barley is very good! I love it. The books were so awesome and so were the trail cams! Amazing gifts! But no bread machine Janet! I want to learn how to do all this old style! The less electricity I use the better! I hear those bread machines are nice though! I have never owned one. Pets are the best when it comes to unconditional love. They ask for SO little in return! Just play with them. Feed and water them. That's it! But Kenai gets a ton of belly rubs too! And half my dinner sometimes! He is a spoiled brat! Thank you so much Janet!

Oh WoW! I often wonder about 'attacks of wildlife'!!!! Please be safe! 🙏 Can bears break your windows? 🐻

Technically a bear could tear through the cabin wall if it wanted to. Luckily they have plenty of food and water around. They would have to be pretty desperate to approach the cabin. And if they did, there would be bear burgers in my freezer soon after. I will give a bear every chance to run away and even attempt using bear spray first but nothing hurts me, Kenai or my cabin! I think about this video every time I go outside! kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZuai2ilgryof7c Thank you so much Kimberly!

Welcome back Sarah! Oh I bet you had a fantastic time! You probably got rained on a lot? Ate well? Planning the next trip back to Alaska? 🤣 Thank you so much Sarah! 🧡🤗💚

@@AloneinRemoteAlaska I had a great time, Ann. I ate as much halibut as I could find and walked quite a bit, especially in Sitka, Skagway and Ketchikan. I so enjoyed the cool weather. There was rain, but I had a hooded jacket and an umbrella. Nice to be home. My little dog, Buddy, is not well. That has been stressful since I returned. I’m looking forward to your reports from your son’s visit. I know you will have fun. Take care.🌹❤️

@@sarahgupton2552 Ahhh I am so sorry about Buddy! Just makes me want to grab Kenai and hug him! Your trip sounds like it was awesome. I don't know if I will ever get to visit the places you did but I bet it was absolutely beautiful there! Glad you had a good time and yeah, its always nice to be home! Short update video should be out this week! Thank you so much Sarah!

It will be fun to see all the wildlife activities going on , on your property. I lived in a tent one summer and had no idea I had a bear walking 5 feet from the tent, until the dog alerted me, and I poked my head out to see him walking down the trail.Yep a game trail, just behind the tent. He never bothered us or our outdoor kitchen. That soup looks amazing, I love mushrooms. Maty gets lots of love, can’t imagine life without her, pets are so good to us.

That bear was just looking at your tent saying "There goes the neighborhood!" You probably lucked out a bit though being that close! You should give the recipe a try! The soup and the ox tail is amazing! Maty is a spoiled dog and that's awesome! I think you and David love Maty so much it shows on video! I'd tell you to give Maty a hug but you do that all the time! Give her one from me! Thank you so much Angie!

Be sure to not only get the tall fence up, but with electric wire. I would even put constantine barb wire on the very top. It is barb wire with razors.There are "winter" bears that did not eat enough to sustain them in their dens, usually a young, inexperienced bear. They are deadly, because they are starving. Love and hugs!

My backyard fence will have electrical wire running along the bottom portion which may need to be raised before the heavy snow. I hear you on the winter bears and they would be as dangerous as a mother bear with cubs. I keep an eye out for them and if I see one on my security cameras (mid winter), I wont be going outside for awhile! Thank you so much Pamela!

Can't wait to see more of your mushrooms growing and to see what you do with them after you've harvested them. Mushrooms are so good and so good for you. I know it's hard though to know which are edible and which are not.
@AloneinRemoteAlaska2 жыл бұрын
Since this is my first year foraging for mushrooms, I will do what everyone does and stick to what they know. It was great that Gnomestead did a video about mushrooms because I was not aware that some mushrooms cannot be preserved! But I don't eat a ton of mushrooms anyway. They sure are tasty when used though! There is even a mushroom called Lions Mane that is supposed to taste like lobster/crab! Slowly but surely I will get this mushroom learning down! Thank you so much!

Hello Tracy! So happy you are enjoying my channel! Are you serious about the pillow? I do watch Eric and Arielle's channel. They post a new video every 5 days and they are all so good! I watched them since they were scouting out property to buy here in Alaska. They just cooked up a porcupine not too long ago too! Thank you so much Tracy!

I'd put one of the cameras by the pond. Eventually all animals end up at a water source.
@AloneinRemoteAlaska2 жыл бұрын
Exactly! It looks like a small pond in the drone footage but once there, it's a fairly large body of water! I want to see who visits the pond and if it will catch any fish jumping! Thank you so much

Good Morning, I see why you fell in love with your land! Those overhead shots of your cleared land and the body of water there! I got butterflies when first seeing it! I'm So happy for you that you've not gotten your stove fixed! I'll have to try making your ox tail soup. It looked so delicious. How is the marker drawing on your new kitchen window working for keeping the birds from running into it? I thought that was so ingenious. So many beautiful flowers growing. And the filming of the seagulls and the water...sigh... Thank you for sharing it all with us. So glad for you of your new equipment for loading the videos and all...Looking forward to your next video.. Love to you and Kenai

This property is amazing! And to think, I passed on it at least three times before coming back to it. All because of that roof! And now the old roof is history! Speaking of history, I love the history of my property as well! I do wish that pond was mine but at least it is very close by. So far the repaired wood stove is ok. I will need to add another little bit to it and cure it again. The window markings have been working because I haven't heard a single bird hit the window. Sometimes I think the birds realized last minute and lightly ran into the window or hit it full force. But zero since! WHEW! I enjoy going scene hunting for you for my videos and now that I have that video transfer device, I am not waiting for hours for the footage to transfer to me. Thank you so much Connie!
