This is an oil change in my 2014 VW Jetta. This is for a 2011-2018, 2.0L naturally aspirated engine. I used 3.8 quarts of 5-W30 oil and a K&N oil filter (HP-2005). If you have any questions, please ask in the comments below.

the lower rad hose is directly under the air filter, you can reach underneath with some pliers and pull the clamp off and then pull the hose. if its rusty make sure you flush until its clear.

If I were you, (yeah I know, I'm not you.) I would recheck the oil after the test drive because that filter takes a quart away from your reading plus you didn't fill it all the way to full. You may already be starting out without a full pan.

@@MTParadise I think I'll order it and then wait for it. I went to do the change and I see the plug looks difficult. I read that it takes torx but it looks rounded out and maybe hex, but Idk what it's supposed to look like. I hope it comes out. Still looking for a decent diagram of plastic parts on the underside and how they are supposed to go. A piece behind the bumper and wheel shield shattered off and idk what it was. A good diagram of the plastic covers would be a great help but I haven't found one.

Every time you change the oil. They are about $10 and I get K&N filters on amazon.
@Lancecorprol17
@Lancecorprol17 3 жыл бұрын
Oil filters are always installed hand tight (VW recommends 30nm/2 ft/lbs) never install an oil filter with a wrench, you'll ruin your filter and can cause the bypass valve to malfunction.

@MTParadise 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the advice
@Haffmatthew
@Haffmatthew 2 жыл бұрын
I want to know more. How does it ruin the filter? I noticed the last oil change I performed on my car (mk6 2.0 NA) that the filter canister itself was nearly punctured and squeezed in by the generic oil filter wrench tool I always have used. I will have to try next time with hand power only
@Lancecorprol17
@Lancecorprol17 2 жыл бұрын
@@Haffmatthew if the outer casing gets damaged, it can restrict flow and cause the oil filter to go into bypass. Same thing if it gets deformed enough to damage the bypass. The bypass is there so that if your filter gets clogged, it will allow oil to bypass and so that you don't starve your engine of oil, but now you're no longer filtering debris and filth from your oil which can be extremely harmful to your engine

Lol it totally feels like a grandma car but like he says, once it's on the highway it moves along just fine. I got it in manual so I can at least have some control over the torque if I do want a bit of a faster acceleration. It's a decent daily for what it is and the prices were pretty good.

For an adverse car it’s not too big of a deal as long as the weight is the same. For a performance car I would stick to the recommended brand. Some brands also have to be changed out sooner that others.
