Bumblebee Apothecary , I just bought some grass fed beef tallow and at room temp at 70 F it is not solid. It not totally liquid but if you turn it over it will move. Is this normal?

Not tried it yet, but it looks interesting. I wonder if having two stage soap would help, ie oil cleansing then regular soap clensing and then a moisurising (tallow moisturiser).. im gonna have to experiment. TY

I tried OCM and it didn’t turn out well. Large cystic acne and some angry skin. People say I did it wrong. I’m currently using a DIY foaming cleanser and using your balm for moisturizer when I need it.

I love your posts. I am going to try using grass fed beef tallow as food and a skin care. I would only replace sugar to a Himalayan pink salt in the facial scrubs. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience.

Thanks! I find that salt is too harsh for the face, but sugar is gentler. I like the salt for other areas of the body, like feet :)

Hi, Marisa! I recently made the tallow cream and enjoy it. My question concerns cleaning items used with tallow. How best to clean the bowls/utensils used in making the balms/creams? I’ve been using paper towels and dish soap but want to be less wasteful. I’ve searched for some ideas online, but I haven’t found much on how to clean pots/ovens/etc. that have tallow/lard/etc. spots that don’t involve something store-bought. What about cleaning the towels or even pillowcases/shirts/fabrics that come into contact with the tallow balm? I’m a little apprehensive to put them in the washer or hand wash them in the sink.
@bumblebeeapothecary3 жыл бұрын
Great question! I use a paper towel to wipe everything before washing. If you use reusable rags, they still end up in the washer, so that's not a great solution either. I take comfort in the fact that the biodegradable, nontoxic paper towels decompose and are compostable. I hope that helps!

@saraderby4933 жыл бұрын
Hi Marissa! I made your tallow balm and it turned out a little gritty. It does rub in good once it gets warm and I don’t mind the texture but wanted to see if I did something wrong it making it or if that’s a normal texture? Thank you! So happy I found you!
@bumblebeeapothecary3 жыл бұрын
Great question! You didn't do anything wrong, but when you use softer trim fat (instead of hard leaf fat) it will develop that texture when the fat molecules separate when it cools slowly. To avoid this, make it cool quickly, such as in a freezer before whipping :)

Dear Marisa, will a good duck/ goose tallow do the same good treat for my skin? I have problems with getting beef tallow in my city, so I bought a goose one. But surely it smells intense even when I use essential oils. Thank you
@bumblebeeapothecary5 жыл бұрын
If they are from free range/pasture fed ducks or geese, it might have some of the same benefits for skin. Usually those are more for cooking, so that's probably why it has a stronger smell. I've never tried purifying those kinds of fats, but that might be something you could try. See this video for how I purify tallow: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2W4mo2badKdo8k Hope that helps!

@@bumblebeeapothecary thank you :) I've found a good quality free range geese meat, so I did from it ( your way :) ) a small amount of fat and well... I though it would smell not as intense as it does :D Thank you once again :) Regards from Europe :)
