We are helping out a friend - we did timing belt and water pump. Put it back together after a flush snd fill and a new radiator and on the test drive this little abused Passat blew its “Oil Cooler Outlet To Pipe Coolant Hose - 2004 Volkswagen Passat”. I think it was leaking prior to the water pump failure. It is coated with rusty water stains and it’s bulging like they do when they’re about to burst. Thanks for this real life explanation. It was really nice to see that ‘oh no! It’s leaking where I just changed the hose.’ That’s a good video when it’s this real! Thanks for keeping that in.

My 2000 Audi A6 2.8L was leaking oil. After watching your video, changed the oil cooler gasket - which had a hole in it, and things were better but still leaked oil. HOWEVER, I also watched your video about PCV system blockage causing pressure in the block and forcing oil out of the seals. I changed my PCV valve and confirmed the old one was totally blocked. I changed it for $6 and now NO oil leaks... First time in years. BIG thanks

I recently replaced a oil cooler gasket on a 3.0 V6. I used a hose clamp on the rear hose and removed it and was able to leave the forward hose on the cooler to swap on the new gasket. Just be careful how you position the cooler so the coolant doesn't come out on the side with the hosed removed.

Great video. I unfortunately have the 2.0-liter, and the oil filter and cooler is much harder to access. I guess I have to remove the inlet manifold in order to get access?

Clear view of what to do, thank you.My question is about what type of leak you just fixed? Is it the coolant fluid or the motor oil?I have a 03 VW Passat 4motion that just left all of the coolant in my drive way. It looks like the leak came exactly from the oil cooler housing but it could be the hose (yet to check on that).Let me know what the leak was for.Thanks so much.

Turning the heat on high doesn't open the heater core. Its always open turning it on high just turns the flaps from cold to hot to let the air that passes through it to go into the cabin. There are coolant bleed ports on the top of the engine that must be used to bleed the engine.

do you have any videos on how to replace the oil thump, or the upper half of the oil pan for audi quattro A4. i was backing out of driveway and curb snagged on to the oil cooler and filter and ripped it out of the top half of my oil pan threads and all, like literally ripped the threaded part of the thump where the filter and the fitting rod would screw in to it at and a few people have told me that replacing the enging block is the only way for me to go about fixing that but i dont really think it'd be that serious of a fix from what i see.

AWESOME! Exactly what I need! How much coolant did you need to ad? I have a 3.0 '03 A4 (same engine as yours), the idiot that worked on the car before me tightened the filter so tight, I had to break it off. In the process of trying to chizzle the top off, I put a hole in the Oil Cooler & all the coolant that was at regular level drained out. Puttied the very small hole until the new Oil Cooler comes in. I put an entire bottle of 50/50 into the resivor, but it needs more. Just wondering if maybe coolant leak is elsewhere? (don't see any leakage) or is this normal for this car.

Is this gasket could be a reason of engine oil getting in coolant system?
@AltruisticWarrior5 жыл бұрын
The cooler itself, yes. I had the same problem.
@Ahooonyyyyyahonny Жыл бұрын
@@AltruisticWarrior the gasket to the coolee?
@AltruisticWarrior Жыл бұрын
@Ahooonyyyyyahonny No, the actual metal piece. Over time the thin metal that divides the oil and coolant gets weak since it's a very different pressure on the oil side. So... the oil starts pushing into the coolant. Really easy fix though, just replace that metal piece and the black gasket ring.
@Ahooonyyyyyahonny Жыл бұрын

The torque for the retainer nut is not 18 ft-lbs. It's 22ft-lbs, which is 30Nm. Also, the oil that came out of this looked like it was coolant contaminated - badly.

Edgar Castañeda if the cooler is leaking internally then coolant and oil can mix giving you that milkshake look in your oil.

is there a reason why oil goes into the water and coolant ??

Its down to the case cracks and under pressure oil gets in the coolant an the other way around. Other reason may be head gasket but if you know what your looking for in the coolant you can tell if its just the oil cooler
