I have to clear up this oil filter myth & show a comparison of Napa platinum oil filter vs Napa gold oil filter & Napa silver.
Proof Mobil1 isn't the only oil filter you need to see cut open but also the fram tough guard oil filter even K&N oil filter in comparison to supertech oil filter. We even review Fram ultra synthetic vs wix xp. Best oil filter mannol?
This aftermarket oil filter isn't safe? today on Nates interactive auto we show the engine oil filters that are supposed to be known for high quality. Unfortunately that is easier said as we show why opening The Mobil1 extended performance motor oil filter. Next Fram ultra synthetic oil filter. Even more unbelievable The wix xp extended performance. with today's extended drain intervals oil filtration is more important than ever. Do not use fram filters? you decide for yourself. oil filter review with royal purple, amsoil and many other brands you must know about like super tech oil filter. best oil filter or oil filter comparison you decide like purolator oil filter and synthetic oil filter. good oil filters such as k&n oil filter also tested napa oil filter plus stp oil filter. also the worst oil filter. check bosch oil filter review.who makes the best oil filter,find worlds best oil filter.
All videos shown on this channel Nates interactive auto are for entertainment, educational and shouldn't be repeated at home without consulting a expert or you should make your own personal choice if you would like to use a product, tool or anything shown in these videos. I assume no responsibility for anything you decide to do or buy.

I used to use napa platinum with my LMM duramaz and amsoil oils. Not too long ago the Napa product spec said that the platinum oil filter was 20 micron, I looked it up again after watching this video and they no longer display the 20 micron rating. Donaldson however, is a 20 micron rating. As a heavy equipment and truck mechanic I've used Donaldson or CAT on all of our machinery and trucks; I've never had any problems with the oil or fuel systems with our paving equipment and we run them through hell and back. I recently switched to Donaldson for my LMM Duramax and i'm quite happy. NAPA filters used to be made by them at one time now WIX manufactures them all. Donaldson does work with synthetic oils. NAPA filters have gone way up in price too. Please keep in mind that cellulose media in filters are designed for conventional oils while their platinum line is designed for synthetic oil use. Thank you for the demo and for taking apart them filters.

You may want to recheck the micron ratings on those filters. If memory serves, the ones with cellulose media were tested differently than the one with synthetic media. So your micron rating may be an accidental apple-to-oranges comparison. Besides, I think WIX makes all those filters anyway...

What many videos do not show is how Motorcraft Filters are one of only few companies using a thread end bypass, Wix, Napa, and Royal Purple all had outstanding design and when they got bought out, the designs changed and in my opinion they are a cheap design. No longer made with highest quality. Royal Purple Filters, Napa Gold and Wix have all changed from a nice steel base plate with thread end bypass, Silicone ADBV, evenly spaced holes and steel coil spring, solid canister casing. It would be interesting comparison how they have changed. Now Purolator is better than those. I currently use Motorcraft although I know they use a leaf spring and the Purolator is a decent design, the Boss is nice and it shows filter media is better than Motorcraft. Not a fan of dome end bypass. Many new oil filters displayed in videos don't even come close to what RP and Napa Wix used to be years ago. The new ACDelco E core is an embarrassment. Why do these companies think they can change a proven design and still have a loyal following for a cheaper product. They must think customers don't notice. I expected K and N to be higher quality, the dome end bypass design is cheap and does not look built with durability.

These high dollar filters are a gimmick ! Cars that have ran on dino oil for years have used basic cheap filters and they have not had any issues due to the oil filter. These numbers they put out is for you idiots to spend 3 times the amount on a filter. The way that you idiots drive is the problem not the filter

Exactly, Napa use to sell Wix back in the day, now Wix makes filters with a Napa badge on them. Same for Dodge there filters are made by Fram. Back when the 1090 Mopar filter came out it was a repainted Fram, because if you scuffed it you could see the orange paint underneath.

If I was using a Napa filter. The Platinum. Why? A lower micron rating isn’t the best thing. In my opinion. The lower the micron rating makes the filter become clogged faster. The larger micron rating allows the filter to continue to work and function. Some oil containment’s settle to the bottom of the oil pan. I used a Mobil 1 filter with a 20 micron rating (if I remember right). When I changed my oil which I do every 5k. That filter was so heavy. I believe it clogged up.

sorry, but I don't understand your concern about the bypass valve on the Napa gold? the function of this valve is similar to the other two for the exception of its location, it is press in place by the tension of the spring against the silicon anti-drain-back valve so it should be sealed, but being at the base I believe that is less likely to drag contaminant from the filter area if it is on top like those two other, oils as to flow around the filter element before reaching the bypass valve, so it as more chance of dragging more contaminants with it, but the thing I don't like is the filter element of this particular filter is shorter then the other two, so you end up with fewer filtration surfaces.
@dgunearthed7859
@dgunearthed7859 3 жыл бұрын
actually (and I'm no physisist) but I feel that in the bypass valve of the napa gold, the oil would fill the can, and since there's no bypass valve on the BOTTOM of the can, would fill up and remain static, or at least have very little movement across the filter media. Then once the can is full and the media is blocked or frozen or what not, the entering oil would then mainly go straight through that bypass valve. Maybe we could get a fluid engineer's input here, but I believe that's how it would play out.

I also have been using Napa Gold oil filters with great results. Conventional oil & filter changes every 3,500 miles. The chevy v8 engine is spotless inside. Cheap insurance, I suppose. (180k on this engine currently) No reason for the amsoil or synthetic oils. I guess I'm one of the few old school left. Understand some of these synthetic oils ppl running 10,000+ miles between changes. That just isn't for me, I guess.

Be aware Platinum filters are now being made in South Korea. Not sure if it’s all or some. The country origin is on the filter not the box. Old boxes had a tuck in flap top, new boxes the flaps are glued(probably so you can’t see country of origin). New box is shorter than old one. Comparisons are for same part number and same time in store. Even the employees were surprised!

Had potential but just a terribly unhelpful vid. You don't discuss what the micron ratings mean...in heppa filters smaller means better. And efficiency was also undefined. Those are something like a probability estimate of how often the filter successfully filters out the particulate at whatever micron rating.

The efficiency depends on the micron rating. So the platinum is 99% but thats at 35 microns. The gold is 96 at 20 microns. Meaning the gold would have a higher efficiency than platinum if tested at 35 microns. Typically the extended oil oil filters actually are at a higher micron rating than the none extended because the need to make the filter last longer so it doesn't filter out the smallest micron rating. So the platinum wouldn't be the best choice if you wanted to filter the smallest micron rating.

Always use OEM filters, they are tightly engineered to your engine based on oil weight,microns , and bypass pressure rating . If you value your engine, use OEM. The aftermarket filters are general relacements and might damage your engine.,,afterall, they are ment to cover many different engines.Taking the filters apartmeans nothing , unless you are an engineer and understand what its all about
