Not to mention the pipelines are horrendous for our indigenous reservations. North Dakota is the most notable, but research the ones they're trying to build through the Minnesota rezs' lands. A spill could not only contaminate drinking water, but wreck so many of the ricing lakes, which is a staple food for we Anishinaabeg (not to mention an important traditional practice). For many communities, the available commercial and commodity food is so unhealthy and contributes to widespread diabetes and heart disease. One huge push (across Anishinaabe lands at least) has been to try to return to traditional land use by harvesting traditional food. And it's been helping so much! Mainly in Minnesota where there are abundant ricing lakes. The expansion of the oil trade would make that more and more difficult for communities trying to heal their bodies and cultural traditions. If you want to help, you should go support reservations like White Earth Nation where they sell the wild rice they harvest on their website. They also sell wild rice flour and honey they produce. It's all organic and hand harvested in the traditional way with non-motorized canoes, and it's gluten free for those with celiac. *It makes a great unique present for the holidays coming up*, and you're helping support indigenous communities reclaim their traditional land use!

@sumopit Come back and talk to me about safety after they aren't trying to build them through the backyards and drinking water of my family and my people. Come back and talk to me when they're not diverting the paths of pipelines away from white suburban neighborhoods through indigenous lands because they care more about staying on the former's good side. Come back and talk to me when they're not trying to take advantage of our position as an oppressed people to increase their profits. Our communities are working so so hard to heal from centuries of ongoing colonization and oppression and this is just one of the latest forms it takes. It's not safer for us because when it spills, it's on our lands and in our water. It's in your water too, you know. But we're the ones on the front lines of it. The best things to do would be to work as quickly as possible to decrease oil production and usage by shifting to renewable energy resources.

He had/has a huge issue with the planned wind farm off shore from the golf course he imposed on a pristine Scottish coastline. Ugly. Going to impact his bottom line. (Same things he said about the people living on/around his planned golf course.) I mean - it's Scotland. Not even his own doorstep that he's shitting on. His mother left Scotland in the 1930s. The majority of Scottish immigration, to North America, took place when the poor Scottish crofters were being evicted by wealthy landlords who thought their ugly little homes were spoiling their sheep and shooting experience. They gravitated to the very American regions that are now Trump heartland states. I don't think those people, whooping it up for Trump, remember how Scottish they are any more. Even if they did - would it occur to them the disparity between the reason why THEY went to America and why Miss McLeod went to America... My bet is that it took Miss McLeod a lot longer to get pushed out of Scotland because it had been her ancestors doing the pushing.

@sumopit the thing is is that it doesnt have to be that way. if we provided adequate safety nets and methods of helping these people get new jobs, this wouldnt be an issue. fossil fuel jobs, at least for coal, are on the decline anyways. and spills and leaks from oil and gas are INEVITABLE! and EXTREMELY HARMFUL! these are the priorities of corrupt millionaires and billionaires, and corrupt politicians who only care for power and money! caring for the people who are employed by o&g would mean providing the proper infrastructure to decline that type of o&g jobs without harming the economies of those areas which rely on them, such as paying these workers to train and learn how to work in other sectors, and then providing them with jobs. caring for these people would mean providing adequate healthcare, because millions of people die every year from air pollution! caring for these people would mean that they wouldnt have to rely on oil and gas!!!!!!
@Fr0gSplashh6 жыл бұрын
@sumopit So what ? You'd rather just avoid a tough economic time at the detriment of literally humankind ? Be smarter than that... How about we provide training to people in the oil field so them too can make the switch to working on a different enregy source ? How about we train them to close the oil rigs effciently and with as little cost as possible for the next few years so they can keep working on what they know and we just stop hiring people there so their profession just dies off organically and peacefully ? I don't know man, I'm not a specialist but there are some people out there smart enough to keep people busy and useful WHILE making the transition to renewable which has to happen. Absolutely HAS TO. No one wants to ruin people's lives but that's exactly what we're doing by being backwards thinking with oil and climate change. Only we're not ruining your life right now, just the ones ofchildren in the future. Only selfish people have no problem sacrificing the future for their own comfort in the present. Backing off from the Paris accords was one of the most selfish, backwards thinking, greedy and demagogic thing any administration has ever done.

@sumopit I know right, I didn't like where my utility company gets its power from so I found another utility company...oh wait no I didn't because every place I've ever lived had 1 utility company for that region. This isn't something consumers have a choice over, the market is decided and consumers have no influence because they have the choice of electricity or being Amish. The market isn't a free market, the "Invisible Hand" cannot function the way it theoretically should, & gas is being propped up by welfare checks to billionaires, this is the opposite of capitalism.
