Hi, just came across your video youtube coincidence, for xmas i re-stained front door, re-stained my sons all wood desk and some cheap pine bedroom drawers and lamps that my wife purchased i am based in Australis, so most paints are Dulux, Taubmans, British paints For stains / varnish, cabots is about 60% of the market, i dont know the other brands, i see them but ignore them on the shelf. My first exposure was in 1997, my home was built in 1958, it had hardwood timber floors, they were covered carpet for the lounge and vinyl / linoleum everywhere else The smallest 4th bedroom i renovated into a spare tv / lounge room and following advise from hardware store i purchased cabots stain and about 20 sheets for my 1/3 sheet orbital sander ( same what spray shops used at the time ) , first coat looked ok but a hour later has soaked into the dry wood. Next day 2nd coat went and it looked like the honey teak colour of your fence, 3rd coat went the next day , it is OK but a touch to dark for my liking - it is not dark but i preferred the 2nd coat colour, i guess it darkens about 10%, i had a small sample piece of timber that was sample painted from 1 to 5 coats each extra coat was darker I use Maple normally it is darker than your honey teak, 2 coats of maple looks like redwood As for durability, i am in that room right now, no scratched on the floor, there are some very fine marks, but all the colour is there, shine is probably 90% of when new, very impressive for 30 years I have watched some USA youtubes on stains / varnish etc and there are 2 cans that resemble the cabots, almost like a copy of the photo and a new logo (minwax & ronseal) Regards George

Did you use any pre stain wood conditioner first? Pine tends to get blotches with regular stains but maybe not with the timber oil.

Is the pergola stained a different color? We are staining the deck and have a pergola made of cedar not sure if needs to be stained a diff color or will it darken if we stain everything the same color?

The pergola at my other house is not stained. If it’s a different type of wood, it’ll look different with stain, the semi transparent would get them looking close.

Would this work for a porch soffit ceiling as well? Trying to find a way to stain and seal a T&G pine ceiling without a 2 step process...I live in south central Texas.

How does Cabot oil-based stain and Sealer get cleaned up with soapy water?

I’ve never cleaned it, looks great after 2 yrs but I’d say light power wash or hose down

Mineral Spirits for oil based stain cleanup. Soapy water only works on water-based stain.

You can paint it in a gloss, just prime it first. I’d probably go with an eggshell paint.
