Between the new Lightning Lanes pay-per-ride system and the Galatic Starcruiser (roughly $6000 for a family of 4, at the low end, for only 2 nights in the “cruiser” and only 1 day in the park), it’s clear that Disney is chasing the “high roller” and high-spending crowd rather than following Walt’s vision of the parks being a place for everyone to come.

When I go on vacation I want to relax. I don't want a complicated confusing puzzle that in the end makes me pay to wait in line. Disney has amazing rides but I am not sure if it is worth the frustration.

Exactly I loved having everything planned before hand! With the fast passes you could plan ahead and not stress about it on the day, now you are going to have to constantly look at which rides you can book and the waiting times ☹️

Normally I would not tell people to fake an invisible disability, but getting a disabled guest pass may be your best bet now. It's free and they can't legally ask you what your disability is. It basically is the same thing as a fastpass, but free.

To me, it’s a money grab. It’s made me not want to ever go back to the parks, even though I wanted so badly to celebrate my law school graduation and later take my future children there. There’s so much junk that Disney has changed over the past year that has alienated their fan base.

Makes me sad because Disney is already expensive and having now to pay extra for some rides is ridiculous because Disney is expensive to begin with. I’m from the UK and Disney was already extremely expensive but now this has pushed it over the edge. Not sure if I’ll be able to afford to go anymore because as it is now, it doesn’t seem worth it. I feel like the magic is disappearing ☹️💔

I got a tip for you to be able to ride most of the rides. Be sure to get there early, an hour before the park opens, they will let you inside the property before the said time. This is the moment where you go to the most popular rides or the once you want to go on the most, once its opening time you will be able to ride with little line, as you did it before park opened. check on waiting times on the my disney experience app after getting off each ride, that way you can see where would be best to go next. Dont miss shows or calm rides, these are perfect to do after you have had lunch or dinner, finally check on times an hour to 40 minutes before park closes, lines of popular rides and all in general will get lower, catch those final rides.

Well, the parks are what's propping Disney up right now. That's why they're creating their Pay-To-Play class system. They spent all that money on Fox. They lost sooo much on KK's Star Wars. Disney Plus has hit stagnation numbers and isn't doing as well as hoped. Movies they have managed to get out have been either mediocre or bombed entirely.

I work at a water park and this whole system confused me greatly. This is going to be a waste of Disney’s time and money. The problem I see going forward is that it would be fine if we had the option to just say, "this is too confusing, I don't want to mess with it, I'm just going to jump in line". BUT Disney has stated in interviews that the idea is not just to schedule dining and lightning lane passes, but also stand-by lines. They started this in Disneyland Paris now, if you want to ride anything you have to go through the app to schedule the time slot. They want every ride in the park to have a virtual que like Rise of the Resistance. Indiana Jones was the first non-new attraction to use a virtual que and they going to continue with that going forward. The less time you're in line the more time you're in the park spending money on Food, Drinks, and Merch. The idea of hitting every ride with a low wait time is over if you can't get in line until you reserve a spot. What happens if all the time slots are taking like rise of the resistance, does that mean if pirates runs out of time slots you can't get on at all that day. Maybe that forces families to buy lightning lane passes since that might be the only way left to ride a ride with no more time slots. Disney has setup the perfect system that creates a problem so that they can sell you a pricey solution.

Though my family has never really used Fast passes, (we use the disability pass instead) I can see why people are upset, especially families who liked to use the Fast passes. Disney is already an expensive trip on it’s own and from what it sounds like, this new system is just another expense.

I’m with you on every point. Fast pass was perfectly fine. Keep the name and keep it simple. Also, me personally, I didn’t like having to reserve eating 2 hours ahead time, especially with my kids there, who are going to randomly want to eat and not wait 2 hours. I’ll know when I’m going to get hungry, not so much my kids.

Thanks for clearing up the genie+ thing and it is quite confusing! I love the pass in universal because it will get the faster line in most of their rides but this one seems a bit much... a seperate fee for big ticket attractions just adds up like having a pretzel every hour it'll just make you pay more so it's really up to you if you want to wait in line or not!

Shanghai Disney has been doing this to and you pay for a certainty road package based on how many rides you want. From my understanding they did this to stop people from selling their fast passes out front of the gate because people would literally come in and get all the free fast passes and then go back out and try to resell them to people.

they say lightning never strikes twice in the same spot. Maybe that's why Disney rebranded fastpass premium to lightning lanes. They don't want very many people to use them, but still want that option available if people really want it, and are willing to pay. I don't really know how it all works, but hopefully Disney will explain it better in the future

you hit the nail on the head on why disney changed it's original design for fast passes the first time to where you have to actually reserve your spot: EVERYONE want's in the shorter line but if everyone is in the short line,then it becomes not so short. at that point,it becomes better to just not get it and try your luck with the normal line by playing the system. also if you like jurassic park,then you should tape yourself going on the dinosaur ride in animal kingdom since it's like jurassic park only with time travel and bill nye the science guy.

Before I went to Disney World for my honeymoon a few weeks ago, growing up I always thought you had to pay for fast passes. And sometimes so many people would want fastpasses that the regular line would actually be a shorter wait time. Have you noticed Disney has been weird lately? Like they make a Spider-Man ride that is a copy paste fo a ride they already have on the park. Looks super cheap. Epcot copies another screen based ride. It just seems Disney is thinking what is more conviene to them money wise instead of making mágica rides and experiences like the parks in Asia.

I also second the notion that we as ap holders will not use it, but if it is your one and only trip, it is a great option (cheaper than a party, after hours, etc.)

Well, I'm planning to go to Disneyland next year for my birthday (and graduation) and my parents and I don't typically use fast passes for any of the rides, so I don't think that this will affect anything on what I'm doing. I usually go to Disney ever 2 to 3 years, so I'm not an annual fastpass holder.

5:48 Yes. They are call "Flash Pass" and come at 3 levels. All majors rides are included and you RESERVE THEM. Low level is equal to line time. Mid level cuts your reservation wait in half... TOP LEVEL (which I pay for annually) IS 10% OF THE LINE WAIT

It definitely would make a difference to not have a fast pass lane for bigger attractions. I learned this when they added a fast past to the Matterhorn. A line that would usually take about 20 minutes without a fast pass line on a busy day. Turned into an hour+ wait WITH a fast pass line. After asking a cast member if fast passes really make a difference to the stand by line they said that they count 10 people in a stand by line to every 30-40 people in a fast pass line. And they have to make sure that many people make it in from the fast pass line even if there aren’t any people in the fast pass line. They have to wait for people to come up in that line before they let anyone in from the standby line. It’s a flawed system that I know they are planning on everyone utilizing and paying for so that they can get everyone to pay to ride the rides.

Speaking from a former disneyland employee, I think this system will make things better. I do think they should have genie+ and genie++ or whatever systems. The one getting you some of the rides the other giving you all of the fastpsss lines. However, this will make the regular lines move a lot faster so that is a plus.

Thank you! My sister works at WDW and I know a lot of her friends who have worked DL and WDW. All the CMs know that reducing or eliminating fastpasses keeps the standby lines moving. Fastpass was cute and all, but with the trade off being a 2 hr wait for space monutain, it shows it was not a perfect system to begin with. Most days I would be in the park I would only ride the attractions I had fastpasses for. I may ride the peoplemover or gran fiesta tour, but other than that it would be characters and food.

A few years ago I was thinking of returning to Six Flags Great Adventure after not being there since 2003. Now back in 2003 I called it Line Land. Cause you basically spend all day on line and ride one or two rides. Then I heard about paid fast past. It's 2021 I still haven't returned. When we visited Disney World in 2001. And used those free paper fast pass tickets at the kiosks and also Universal Islands. And free! So magical!

Another issue I've heard mentioned is the now necessary "constant looking at phone" issue there will be now. It's sad. Some of the best parts of visiting Disney for many is just looking around and taking in everything and all that's happening around you. Kinda hard to do if you have to be busy looking at phone.

As someone's who's experience the fast pass experience they should make it so that if you buy it you can then go on all the rides not pay a separate prices for different types of rides that's silly. For the other thing about the two lines maybe they should have maybe a few seperate cars just for the fast pass section than the normal line people don't have to wait as long sometimes and would help with different disability's too.

Fastpasses highly inflated wait times for certain rides, and when a ride went down other rides’ wait times were even more inflated. Having everyone wait in the regular line would help keep times from getting super inflated. I think Disneys move here is to alleviate those inflated fastpass heavy rides, whilst making more money off it. I am not saying it is right or wrong, but what I want is to not wait over 2 hours for mine train because all the fastpasses for the entire day are booked so there are sooooo many ppl flying on the ride before me. When Disney World did fastpasses, [where the lines merge] the amount of standby and fastpass guests is not exactly 50/50, and varies per ride, but as a rule of thumb it is pretty equal from both lines. So fastpasses let A LOT of people walk right on, which means the more fastpasses booked for that ride, the more stagnant the stand by line is. Fam, Space mountain reserved one of the two sides just for fastpass, meanwhile standby would be waiting outside, that is insane. They should let more peple onto that side that is completely empty! tl;dr I am skeptical of this change, but my hope is that the fastpass lines will be less saturated thus hopefully benefiting guests in the standby line.

First of all, for me, a person used to HUMAN customer service from cast members having everything going digital has been difficult enough when you're left alone with your phone and the app to figure everything out! It's not only frustrating but stressful!! Now, it's going to be even more confusing! Honestly, I just want to go to the parks with my family and have fun without constantly having to use my phone at the expense of giving my full attention to my loved ones and the activities at hand. With the cost of a Disney family vacation continually going up, a lot of families will be questioning whether it is really worth it for them to go to a Disney park taking all of these new changes into account as well. It may just be one too many hits with the snake!! 🐍

I dont feel ok with paying for the lightning lane. First of all I didnt need fast pass in my last trip, its all about good planning and timing. The main genie app is amazing for this. Yes, I feel it would be amazing if its all the rides, a one pay do all is ok, but paying multiple times to be able to experience the whole service. The fist fastpass tier price is great, if it was lets say 10 dollars more like 30 it would still be super cheap compared to universal. I dont mind to wait even tho I dont go often, once every few years, but I get that the pricing is weird and it can bulk up to a hefty lot. I personally manage fine with getting there early and getting to the most popular rides either at the start or the end of the day, thats how I was able to ride rise of the resistance twice.

Thanks Brian you're a great guy and now I'm convinced that you are a down to earth person too👍👍👍👍 My opinion is that Disney is coming up with more ways to squeeze more money out of their fans which is a shame

I think my biggest problem is that they took away the free option. Disneyland had the Max Pass system for a couple years and I actually really liked it and thought that it was a good system. But what made it great was that it was an optional add on and if you didn’t want that you could still get the free passes at the park.

You're absolutely correct about people who don't get to come often not want to use the service. I've only gone twice so I like to do as much as I possibly can while I'm there but I honestly don't think it's worth it to mess with paying for fast passes for every single ride I want to do. I'd rather just use the free Genie service to optimize my ride waiting that way.

I have only been to Universal and Disney a few times and I will agree that getting a single fast pass for a flat rate was so nice and I can't even imagine trying to do it with Disney's new system. I don't go often, but what to go back soon and unless I had my entire day planned on what I wanted to do rather than just casually walking around, I would NOT be using the Gplus service/Lighting Lanes. That being said I COULD reason that if you were already using Genie to use their scheduling to plan out your entire day, then maybe the Gplus service/Lighting Lanes could recommend you on what ones to buy if they are heavily backed up. Still though... One flat rate for everything, even if it's pricier, would make things a LOT simpler =.=

In the UK our theme parks have always had a Fastpass system that you'd pay for. You pay per ride or buy a bundle ticket, different bundles had different rides. I agree they should simplify it, at least make kiosks where you can buy tickets or colour coded wristbands like over here.

I feel like this helps the people that don't go often or have AP/keys. Since the multi day pass people won't use the upgrade all the time there will be less people getting passes. This could be huge in DL where tons of guests are locals. For people that go annually or less time is more valuable and genie+ is a fairly small cost. This can let them do more in the little time they are there. That extra LL thing though, that I don't like. I also think genie vanilla can help with wait times too.
