Kuina's death actually is a heavily discussed topic in the fandom to this day, since - it was left out here - she died falling down the stairs onto her sword. And, unlike the LA & anime, in the manga her corpse was shown with her face covered by a cloth. There have been countless theories ranging from: a murder cover-up by her father/dojo sensei to many even speculating it may have been a euphemism for suicide. The common idea, however, is that Kuina, someone who Zoro could never beat by force, ending up dying by something so unspectacular, is supposed to be one among other reasons why it affected Zoro so much. It's just that many doubt that humans-are-fragile storyline w/Kuina considering how superhuman humans (such as Zoro or Kuro) can be in the OP world.

It wasn't even she fell onto her sword. It literally just said she fell from the stairs and died, which is ridiculous in a world where soooooo many characters survive much worse things. If Kuina doesn't come back in the manga, it will always be one of the things that makes the least sense in the series. No wonder the live-action omitted it, it's just so silly.

"How does somebody just have an accident and die?" Accidents are literally the number 1 cause of death for children 16 and under. Kids fall off things. Fall off a building, fall out of a tree, etc. Things fall on kids like old rotten tree limbs or roof tiles.. Traffic accidents, animal attacks, etc.

Kuina is what drives Zoro, but also holds him back. Kuina died in an accident. She fell down the stairs, with her sword. Zoro asked for the sword to fulfill their dream. Your grandpa reaction was priceless!!! Lmao lololol

It's gonna be so interesting seeing you guys react to the anime after this later on cuz the live action only covers the first 45 episodes worth but the reveal that Garp is Luffy's grandpa actually wasnt revealed until the early 300s in the anime so a lot of ppl got spoiled on that while watching this before reaching that point in the show. Also heads up for future episodes: this is strictly an adaptation of the manga and not the anime so there are some details you will see here that are different in the anime cuz the animation studio was forced to change them due to censorship reasons.

Also, Ron is mixed himself. He's mentioned it multiple times in videos on the channel he shares with his brother. He "looks white," but he has asian in him, from a grandparent, I think. He REALLY shouldn't be surprised that Garp could be his grandfather.

Oda sensei said that Luffy is Brazilian, Zoro Japanese, Nami Swedish, and Ussop South-African! Also, fyi Garp is really Luffy's Grandpa 😅 not adopted or anything. Another curiosity, in the anime this family bond isn't revealed until much later, but the producers of the live action felt it would be more interesting and keep the viewers more hooked if they made the storyline this way!

The fun thing is the "grandpa" reveal also surprised the Manga and Anime fans here because the show took another sailing route here which I think is great! Also whats epic about the scene where they start sailing is they play a soundtrack version of the first one piece opening but that is something you could of course not notice when you havent seen the Anime :D

In the anime/manga Luffy names crew members he wants to get by their roles. So he says i need a navigator, a cook etc etc etc. this gives you like a light intentional spoiler to know roughly how many members you can expect. I wont say how many he ends up having or who but people are still speculating to this day that he might get 1 more crew member as of the latest chapters for the manga. Point is, apart from the few very obvious early members, you never know when someones gonna join. They also often make it out that someones gonna join but they dont i.e. similar to Koby. So they do keep you guessing a lot.

It's crazy to say this but as goofy as the outfits for Kuro's cats themed crew are, they look far better in the live action in my opinion. And I say this as a One Piece fan. Specially Sham, biggest glow up in the show lol

To read is a great experience, even more with friends. Still watching the series and this year I've been watching reactions, but slowly. One option I can think of is reading the manga from start up untill where the live action ends and start the anime from there on. The manga-to-anime transition is smooth because there will be no information lost in the process. That way you could kind of "binge" throught it without losing much of story-reaction content.

Personally think eps 5-8 are the highlight of the season... 1&2 are great cuz it was the first look and introduction but then 3&4 were to me the weakest eps of the 1st season but still enjoyable of course. Theres no stopping the addiction to the one piece once u reach a certain point there's just so much lore that wraps u in wanting to know more

No, Garp is literally Luffy's grandpa. His full name is Monkey D Garp. He's a Vice Admiral and so-called 'Hero of the Marines', credited with the capture of Gold Roger. So either he had a kid with someone with darker skin (hispanic as Luffy is cast as a hispanic character in Live Action), or Luffy's mom is. We don't really know anything about Luffy's mom OR grandmother. It's not been mentioned, to my knowledge. We know about his father, I won't spoil it for you though unless you don't care about it being spoiled? But basically, Garp wanted Luffy to become a strong and good Marine, but Luffy always dreamed about being a pirate, and after meeting Shanks, about being King of the Pirates. Because what he's really after is freedom. In his mind, the one with the most freedom in the world is the King of the Pirates. In the anime, we don't actually meet Luffy's Grandpa until Water 7/Enies Lobby arc, way in to the Grandline....

In the original series it is said that ¨Kuina died falling down the stairs¨, we get to see her father talking to her and saying that a woman can never get the title of the world's strongest swordsman the same night she died. Anyways, in some regions of Japan saying that someone died falling down the stairs is an euphemism for suicide, so she probably killed herself 💀

As a Japanese fan, I will explain the greatest aesthetics and rules of "One Piece". Luffy does not kill his enemies. Rather, death is meaningless in a battle between pirates because it is not even a threat. Luffy just blasts his enemies and folds his "faith". So the enemies can come out as many times as they want, but they will never fight Luffy again. This is the interesting thing about One Piece.

When I first seen Zoro's backstory, I was taken aback a little because he easily can be seen as a man with all their masculinity principal like being a man, protect the woman or whatever But instead, he respect kuina as a swordwoman he need to surpass, his goal, he see her as a skilled person she was And he remembering her and their promise, carrying her spirit all these years is just too precious, displaying his full loyalty to honour a promise he made
