One thing I do whenever I open an older system (10+) is replace every valve core and cap with new ones and use only brass caps with the o-ring seal FINGER TIGHT. Saves me a "what if" and a headache. Gauges can mask the very leak you're looking for.

I would hate to give a older person a high bill. After we lost my father my mom was living on $800 a month. I did not know this until she passed and was trying to get everything with her estate done. Some older people are well off but just how many is like my mother trying to make it for 8 years on just $ 800.

I didn't want to mention it in the video but the person that change the TXV was their son that also used to work in the HVAC field. Luckily I made them aware of every option before making the repair. I'm definitely not one of those dirtbags it takes advantage of older folks.

Nice find and fix. yea, I really like the idea of these split systems. Carrier actually made a Variable Speed Compressor version. Thanks for the video. Only seen it from Carrier documentation, never in person. The "J" and "P" series Carlyle compressors are one of my favorite compressors out there.

I really can't believe this "Dupont R-12 Freon R12 Refrigerant 30lb Pounds $1050" this can't be right. I seldom use R-12, I had some tanks sitting in my mom's basement, I remember paying $150 for 30 lbs. and bitching about the price. The last few times I bought off Craigslist and paid $110 for each 30 lb. tank. Oh my!
@HVACRSurvival

That was R-22, what the wholesale price and retail price is a bit difference. Every area charges differently but all I can say is we're on the low end of the scale.

Nice video Rick! R22 is ideal for leak detectors. I just sent out my H10 for service and was looking into getting a backup. Maybe the Stratus or Testo 316-4. Got off topic. I heard of units with compressor in the house just haven't run into that yet, interesting

This particular design originally had the option of special screw together fitting type connection. It was a massive leaker. LOL

You can tell a good tech when you go through the proper procedures to troubleshoot a system and recheck you're work after the fact. I've had some Tech's in my company just charge the unit and leave to only find out I would have to go back behind them show them how to use the tools to find and repair the leak. Still can't beat bubbles for pin pointing

sjef oekel seems like a net gain of zero on the sound levels by moving the compressor inside you now can hear that hum in the basement just as much as outside I would bet. But I guess it’s your own unit and not the neighbors unit you hear so maybe I can understand it that way.

Im new to HVAC. Why was the suction pressure high for this system?
@HVACRSurvival
@HVACRSurvival 3 жыл бұрын
There's a thing called a reversing valve inside the unit, it reverses the flow so that your traditional suction line has now become your hot gas discharge from the compressor going to the evaporator.
