I just made my first biscuits & I'm 62 yrs old, I have always baked, but had never tried biscuits. I was a lazy heifer & bought store biscuits. My mama was a pastry cook for DISD for 30 yrs in Dallas, TX. She would be surprised that I made them, lol. I found your channel & you inspired me to do it. Thank you & btw, my mama would LOVE your cooking.

OMG...mixing the butter in the syrup brings back such fond childhood memories. I would open my biscuit, butter it and mix in a pat of butter in some ALGA syrup! 😋🤤😋 ALGA is very sweet and thick and need the butter to cut the sweetness. I also liked biscuits with peach preserve, apricot preserve or gravy...delicious comfort food! And have some fried chicken or salmon croquettes with it..OMG, OMG, OMG...I can’t eat like that anymore...but OMG it was good, good, good eating! YUM!🤤😋🤤

Exactly how momma taught me to make biscuits . We alw as ts had molasses, homemade apple butter she had made up or honey! I also love a good marmalade. My daddy always mixed his molasses with butter and then I started doing it. Yummy. One time I didn't have buttermilk so I used a bit of sour cream and a little lemon seltzer water and my husband asked what did you do to the biscuits and I thought, oh no that trick was a fail but now I make em that way if we are out of buttermilk and have sour cream and seltzer water on hand ! Hadn't made a batch of biscuits with my mom in years, had to look up a recipe! Lol these looked almost perfect but then you rolled them out w more flour and cut them out. I was always told you don't roll the dough out for biscuits (mama called 'em hockey pucks then lol) only dumplings, just spoon some fat globs of that sticky dough into a buttered pan and they'll make the softest golden buttery angels of biscuits that aren't powdery dry on the outsides 👍

My mother made Biscuits from Crisco, self rising flour and homemade buttermilk. Very easy and quick. I've made them several different ways and their always great. I prefer butter to Crisco and whole buttermilk. I sometimes put in 2 flat teaspoons of brown sugar without telling my wife just to see what she says. You can't really taste the sugar but it does give it a certain flavor thats just...hmmm thats a good biscuit. I sometimes use parchment paper too in a regular pan to get a bit of a crispy bottom. I've learned not to overwork the dough and they rise just fine. Thanks for posting..

Here’s a tip if you are single like me, or perhaps only have a spouse to cook for. I felt like it was really wasteful to get that much buttermilk when I was only making small amounts of biscuits, but what I do now is to freeze the buttermilk in 3/4 cup portions in quart size Ziploc freezer bags. Squeeze out as much air as you can, and lay them flat on a cookie sheet and freeze them that way. Now that I have made biscuits Tammy’s way, I simply must have buttermilk on hand all the time! Also need to try her buttermilk pie!
